Listen carefully to what the passengers at the
table all tell. It is 7 o'clock in the evening and time for dinner. On board of
the Calais carriage are:
Antoinette
sit at Hercule Poirot's table and Poirot subjects Antoinette to an
"observation quiz". Poirot asks Antoinette about the other passengers
and each time you get a number of possible answers. All other 13 passengers pass
by and Antoinette has to say what she knows or thinks of every passenger.
Poirot
starts by asking Antoinette what she knows, or thinks she knows, about: Debenham,
Ohlsson and Hubbard. And then follow Arbuthnot, Princess Dragomiroff, Hildegard
Schmidt. Then we continue with: Foscarelli, Hardman and Masterman and we end at
Ratchett and MacQueen. If you keep using the answers that Antoinette can give
you in sequence, then you will not skip anything and Poirot's quiz will
automatically end and then ....
Ratchett
sends Hector away to handle the correspondence and he himself speaks to Poirot.
Ratchett is not a pleasant man. Ratchett therefore has enemies and has received
threatening letters. Ratchett wants to hire the services of Poirot and he shows Poirot that he is in possession of a revolver.

Hams for the Chef:
Belgrade
station
There
is no rush. Unlike in real life, the Orient Express will not leave as long as
Antoinette has not stepped in again. This is a great moment to explain the
operation of the Inventory screen to you. You can open the inventory screen in
two ways: The first way is to click with your right mouse button on the screen.
The 2nd way is to move your cursor to the top edge of the screen. At the top of
the screen the TRAIN BAR will pop up.
You
see the 5 train wagons. Via this train bar you can go from one carriage to the
other carriage by clicking on the carriage you want to go to. By clicking the button,
that's on the left side, you open the inventory screen. By clicking on the Hat,
that's one the right side, you open the Menu
screen where you can Save, Load and exit the game. Now open the inventory screen
in one of the two ways. The inventory screen always opens with the Items screen.
In the right edge, there are 6 buttons below each other. Number them, from top
to bottom, 1 to 6. By clicking on these 6 buttons you open another screen of the
inventory.
Button
1 = The Items screen. In the Items screen you see all the items you pick up or
receive in the game. Button
2 = Your Magnifying Glass. By picking up an object in the Items screen and
clicking it on the Magnifying glass, you see the Item in the Close-up window. With the "Reverse Eye" you can then turn the item over. Read Antoinette's comment at the bottom of the text window. At the top of the Close-up screen you see the Scroll arrows. Use the scroll arrows to place the Next Item or the
Previous Item in the Close-up screen. So you do not have to click with each item
on the Magnifying glass to see it in the Close-up screen. Once you have placed
an item in the close-up screen, you can also place all other items in the
close-up screen by clicking on the scroll arrows. Button
3 = the Combine button. This button opens the screen where you can combine
multiple items with each other to create one new item. I'll explain how you do
that if you have to do that for the first time. Button
4 = Documents. In the document screen you can view and read all documents,
briefs and cards. Button
5 = Passports. In this screen the Passports are saved and you can view them. Button
6 = Fingerprints. In this screen you can view and compare the fingerprints. How
to do that swill be explained in more detail when you have to do this. The
only item you now have in your inventory is the "Ticket stub".
However, in "Documents", under Button 6, you have 3 sub departments
and these are: "True Crime Stories", "Time Table" and
"Maps".
Close
the inventory screen again with your right mouse button. Antoinette is standing
in front of the train on the platform of Belgrade station. Walk through the feet
at the top left and .....
|
We
return to Antoinette on the platform. Walk again through the feet on the top
left and Antoinette enters the next screen at the benches and the entrance of
the station building. Two men are talking to each other at the fountain. Walk to
the fountain. These two men turn out to be Arbuthnot and MacQueen. Talk to
Arbuthnot and MacQueen.
Arbuthnot finds it "bloody awful" and according to MacQueen the train has leave soon, if the train wants to get through the passes, which are in danger of snowing. Click on one of the two talk options so that Antoinette presents herself and then use the other options to ask if the gentlemen have seen the Hams of the chef lying around somewhere. That is not the case, however, and both gentlemen disappear back to the train.
Walk down a screen through the bottom of
your screen and then continue through the top right corner of the screen.
Behind a fence a woman is standing up of a
bench and she disappears.
Look,
with your Eye, at the fence. Antoinette says she has seen that
the conductor of the Athens / Paris car has come through this gate. Walk down
another screen, via the bottom edge of the screen, and Antoinette comes
to the locomotive of the train. At the locomotive, Pierre Michel and Tayyip, the
train driver, talk to each other. Click with your "Eye" on the two men
so Antoinette walks towards them.
Pierre
introduces Antoinette and Tayyip to each other. Talk to Tayyip, who is
not pleased that the train company has sent a female person as a representative.
Talk to Pierre Michel and use all options in the conversation. Pierre knows that
Klaus is missing his Ham. An extra passenger has boarded the train here in
Belgrade. It is a Greek Doctor. When the conversation with Tayyip and Pierre
Michel is over you click with the curved arrow, left / right next to Antoinette,
to get out of this screen.
Antoinette
is standing in the hallway of the Calais car and Poirot tells her to listen at
the door of each compartment. To eavesdrop at the doors Antoinette needs a tool. Open the
Train bar at the
top of the screen. You can see that you can go back and forth between two of the
wagons via the train bar. The other 3 wagons are not yet available.
Zoom
out and return via the Train Balk to the:
Calais
coach:
You
have to take a glass from your inventory at every door and then click on
the door handle with your "gear". So we start with
Leave
the Coupe again via the bottom screen and the door. Back in the corridor you
walk through the bottom screen. We see Antoinette on her back and she is at
Coupe 9. You can also see Pierre Michel sitting in the hallway at the end of the
car. Now continue to listen to the sections:
Pierre
then continues and you see Pierre walking through the windows in the corridor.
Your cursor is now the "shadow cursor". QUICK .... Click with the
"follow cursor" in the hallway so that Antoinette will follow Pierre.
You
do not necessarily have to click with the "follow cursor" on Pierre
Michel. If you just click quickly, before Pierre has left the screen again. If
you click too late Antoinette will not follow Pierre. Then quickly go via the
Train Balk to the dining car, because that is now also accessible via the Train
Balk. Walk quickly through the restoration carriage and you will see Michel as
well and Antoinette then automatically follows him to the Luggage coach. Antoinette
follows Pierre Michel through the corridor of the Calais carriage to the
Restoration carriage. Pierre checks a door and then continues and disappears into the
baggage car. Antoinette follows Pierre into the luggage car. |
......
Pierre comes to her and asks if Antoinette followed him. Give Pierre one of the
possible answers, it really does not matter which one. Pierre says that
Antoinette must go back to the Calais carriage. Well .... let's not make Pierre
angry any further. You can not go back via the Train Bar, so click with the feet
at the bottom of the screen to return to the restaurant carriage and .....
Pierre locks the luggage coach again and Antoinette goes to her compartment to go
to sleep.
The
Orient Express continues through the snowy Serbian landscape. It is really bad
weather again and then suddenly ..... An avalanche and large chunks of rock and
snow gets on the track. However, Tayyip manages to stop the train just in time
via an emergency stop. All passengers tumble out of their beds and are
complaining in the corridor. Nobody seems to be hurt except ..... Poirot.
Poirot
has ended up rather unhappy and has had his ankle weakened or broken. Antoinette
offers her apologies for this inconvenience. Poirot will have to stay in his
compartment during the rest of the journey to give his ankle rest. There is a
loading and after the loading we are at Antoinette and Greta in their
compartment.
Zoom out again and click with the feet at the bottom of the screen. Antoinette turns and stands in front of the coupe door.
To the right of Antoinette is the door of
the bathroom. On the coupé door you now get the "Peepcurser". Click
with the "Peep cursor" on the door and ...
Zoom
in on the travel alarm again to see what time it is now. It is now 1:17
in the night.
We
end up back at Antoinette who is sleeping again but now wakes up from the sound
of a hard punch. Antoinette climbs out of bed again. First look at the travel
alarm again to see what time it is now. It is now 1:22 in the night. Turn back
to the coupé door and click again with the "Peek Cursor".
...... a person in red kimono walking through the hallway
to the salon carriage.
Talk
to Michel. Antoinette asks if Pierre knows who that woman is in the red kimono.
But Pierre has not seen her face either. Then ask Pierre all other questions.
Pierre is not sure, but according to him, the red kimono woman came from the
Hubbard coupe or from the Ratchett coupe. Pierre has not heard any sound. Go
back to coupe 7-8 and go back inside to sleep for a few more hours.
It
is the next morning and all passengers are sitting at the table enjoying
breakfast. People are rather concerned about the delay and wonder how long they
will be snowed in. Antoinette is sitting at the table with Mary Debenham because
Poirot, because of his ankle, is confined to bed. Pierre Michel then pops up and
summons Antoinette to come to the coupe of Poirot
Constantine
is the passenger who has boarded in Belgrade and he is the only one in the
Athens-Paris car.
Poirot
says that Ratchett was murdered. Poirot has instructed to close all the outside
doors of the train, except the back door of the Athens-Paris car. After all ...
the train must stay on steam. Matteo will inform Poirot if someone tries to
leave the train via the Athens-Paris car. Dr. Constantine has examined the body.
It
really does not matter what choice you make. If you opt for Choice 1, then
Antoinette is very much on her own , but can always ask Poirot for advice and
help. If you opt for Choice 2, Poirot will offer a little more help during
Antoinette's research, especially in the form of some hints when solving some
puzzles. But do not imagine much of Poirot's help. So just choose Choice 1.
Whatever choice you make, eventually Antoinette goes, together with Dr.
Constantine, in the coupe of Ratchett. And we have ended up in:
