Introduction and Prologue

I dreamt of blood that washed ashore, of eyes that spoke of sin
The lake was smooth and deep and black, as was her scented skin.
A mask I wore as I approached, I was what I am not

And though the pattern was unclear, its meaning could be bought.
Drawn to Bacchus's abode, I sought there to conspire.
But it was in the city of the dead that I found my heart's desire....
I spoke to one who smelled of death, he gave to me his ears.

And crosses that were marked were made into a veil of tears...
The road was blocked, the truth was shunned, the white flag had been waved.
Reversal cost me all I had, and everything I'd braved...

And then the night became as day, I glimpsed nature's reddest claw!
The face of fear looked back at me as I gazed into the maw...
My last ally laid to waste, I ran towards the light

I prayed for one to change my path, to give me strength to fight...
Inside a hidden chamber where I had no right to be,
I found the wheel at last, or, could it be, the wheel found me

And then the wheel went round and round, I could not find my way
Twelve and three and turn the key, I heard the madman say
Deep in the earth I faced a fight that I could never win
The blameless and the base destroyed, and all that might have been.

-Gabriel Knight

Gabriël Knight Sins Of The Fathers is an adventure game and it was originally made by Jane Jensen. This is the REMAKE of this first game in a series of 3 Gabriël Knight games. The game was originally released in 1993 on 12 floppy's and on CD-ROM. Following the 20th Anniversary of the release of the original game, Jane Jensen was able to get permission to make a REMAKE of the game. This REMAKE has been done by Jane Jensen's own games studio "Pinkerton Road" in collaboration with "Phoenix Online Studios", This REMAKE was released in 2014, in a new and modern way and this has led to a completely new edition of the game ... the "20th Anniversary Edition Gabriel Knight Sins of the Fathers". If you have played the original game from 1993 then you'll notice that some things in the Remake are different then in the original game. For instance....the part in the Police Station will be different

In Gabriël Knight 1: Sins of the Fathers, you play as of Gabriël Knight, owner of the "St. George" Bookstore"  located in the "French Quarter" of New Orleans. The game mainly takes place in New Orleans and the main theme of the game is Voodoo. A number of Voodoo-related killings have been committed in New Orleans. Gabriël not only owns the "St. George bookstore", but he  also writes books himself. Those Voodoo murders intrigue Gabriel quite and so he wants to devote his newest book to it. In order to get well-prepared, Gabe is going to investigate those Voodoo Murders, and thus he gets involved in the Voodoo scene of steamy and swampy New Orleans. In his research, Gabriel receives help from his lovely assistant Grace Nakimura, an intelligent young lady of Japanese descent. Grace works as Gabe's assistant in the St. George bookstore and she will be a source of information and do a good part of the research for Gabriel, but you have to ask Grace first.

Via his friend Mosley, Gabriel has access to police data about the Voodoo Murders. Mosley is the police detective who has been investigating the Voodoo Murders and he is also a source of information for Gabriel. The game takes place during 10 days and in every day you have to do certain things to be able to continue to the next day. The game uses a points system and a total of 362 points can be earned. You earn those points by doing the things you need to do in the game and by asking the right questions in the conversations you have with the other characters in the game. Every time you have done something right you deserve a point witch is indicated by  a "Ping sound". It is not necessary to score all 342 points in order to bring the game to a good end because you can also end the game with a lower score.

The game runs via a Day system and includes 10 days. In order to be able to continue to the next day, you have to do all the essential things that you have to do on that day. If you do not go on to the next day, you have simply forgotten to do something essential. Besides the essential things you can do things that are not important to play the game ..... this especially goes for the conversations you have to do in the game, but it is from the up most importants to use the right options in conversations, sometimes several times. You can end the game in different ways, and I will mention those different endings at the end of this walkthrough.

When you start the game you always see the Start Screen with the various options. This 20th Anniversary Edition also includes a "Graphic Novel", which you can read through, but only from the Start Screen. This "Graphic Novel" gives you some background information about events from the past ....

You can choose to read the "Graphic Novel" first, but it does contain some "Spoilers" and the game encourages you to wait until it is really important to read it.

If you choose "New Game" then the game starts with a
