A lot more very detailed game walkthroughs can be found on my site at:  www.pcgameswalkthroughs.nl

Chapter 3: Crater Island

You have arrived at the Crater Island and you are on top of the "Lumberjack Mill". Before you see a part of the large crater lake and an iron ladder. If you turn around for a moment, you will see the "chute" that has puts you here at the end of your ride through the long tunnel from the Jungle Island. If you turn left then you will see large round Boiler House.

Turn back to the ladder and walk to the ladder, look down and click in the ladder hole. You climb down and you are against  the ladder with your face. Behind the ladder you see a pipe running over the lake and to the right you see a long jetty entering the lake. Turn right and you will look again at the Boiler House. Turn right again and you'll see that you've really stood on top of a woodcutter. Turn left again and take 2 steps towards the Boiler House. Then turn left and you are right in front of the long jetty. You see that the jetty goes to a stone pillar, in the middle of the lake and there all the pipes come together. Turn back to the right. You are right in front of the Boiler House staircase.

Do not go up the stairs of the Boiler house yet but now aim your cursor on the rock, right next to the Boiler house and then take 1 step forward. You are right next to the boiler and you can see that there is a fire under the boiler. Click once more, on the rocks behind the boiler and you will see the area behind the boiler. You see, high up against the rock wall, a kind of "Balcony". Go one step further and you will see before you a big pipe that goes to the right to the rock and then disappears at the top of the rock. Turn around and you will see that the thick pipe comes from the bottom of the Boiler.

Turn back and walk all the way through, over the thick pipe, to the iron ladder that goes up to the "balcony".

Then look up along the ladder and ...... High above you now see a round hatch, in the floor of the balcony.

You can climb up to try if you can open the hatch from this side, but that does not seem to be the case, so let's go back to the Boiler House and the lake. So look down again and turn around and walk all the way back to the other side of the Boiler House and to the jetty. Go straight in front of the jetty and then turn back to the Boiler House. Now, mark your cursor on the Boiler House stairs and walk up the stairs completely. You then hit your nose against the iron door of the Boiler House

However, the door does not open. Right next to the door you see a viewing glass and you see that the sight glass is now full of a red liquid. This means that there is now water in the boiler that makes steam. To open the door, the water must first be pumped out of the Boiler. Turn around, go down the stairs to the small platform and then turn right.

Now walk over the iron path to the end and ........ you walk against a thin pipe with a lever on top. The lever is now focused on the left pipe. Stay away from this lever. Turn right and ....

Now you look at a part of the boiler wall and you see a large turning wheel and a flexible thick pipe. On the right you see 2 pipes where you also see a lever and that lever is now to the left. In the wall of the boiler you see a narrow window and through the window you see the water bubbling inside the boiler. To the right of the narrow window you see a lever on the wall, and that lever is now down.

Stay away from everything now because you have to do something else first. Turn around and walk back to the stairs, turn right and descend the bottom stairs and go back to the jetty. Walk all the way across the jetty. On the stone pillar you see a thick knob with a handle. So all these pipes come together and this handle is the dividing point with which you can send the steam into a pipe and so can turn a machine on and off. Well, what you have to do now is to turn off the Boiler so that you can get into the boiler and then crawl through that thick pipe that goes into the rock from the boiler.

The Boiler Puzzle

Zoom in on the handle, on the pillar at the end of the jetty.

This lever has 3 positions and now the lever is on the right. This activates the "Frog Catching Machine" in the rock behind the balcony. You have not found this "Frog Catching Machine"  yet. You will encounter that later, but is actually not important at all. If you turn the handle to the left, you bring  steam through the left pipe to the "Lumberjack machine" and you could cause some wood to be broken up. But that is not necessary. Now click on the lever and hold down your mouse button and pull the lever to the middle position so that the lever now points to the middle pipe.

Now the Boiler gets no power anymore. Turn around and walk back over the jetty and then go up the bottom stairs of the Boiler House.

Turn left and walk over the iron walkway to the end. Again you run into that little lever.

Call this lever now lever 1, but stay away from that lever for this moment and turn right. You are looking back at the boiler wall with the narrow window, the big wheel and the 2 levers: Name the Lever in the 2 pipes Lever 2. Name the Lever next to the narrow window, Lever 3 and call the Lever of the turning wheel Lever 4.

Now do the following:

  • Lever 2 is in the lower position. Click on the Lever 2 to raise it and ..........
The water in the boiler stops bubbling.

  • Now click on Lever 4, on large turning wheel to turn the wheel and ..........
The thick flex pipe rises and you see that the water in the boiler drops.
There is no water left in the Boiler.

  • Lever 3 is lowered. Click on the Lever 3 to raise it to the up position

  • Turn left and now click on the small lever 1. Lever 1 points to the left pipe.

  • Grab lever 1 and pull the lever towards you, so that the lever points to the right pipe and ...........

you turn back automatically and see that the floor In the Boiler is now rising.

You have solved this Boiler puzzle. Turn right and go over the walkway back to the stairs, turn left and climb the top stairs to the door.

The sight glass is now white and therefore empty and the door opens automatically.

NB: If you have done something wrong with the handles, then the floor is not up and you cannot enter the manhole, or there is still water inside and then you cannot enter.

Walk 3 steps inside and you are at the manhole in the middle of the Boiler. You now look at the manhole that is in the middle of the floor. Now click twice in the Man hole and .........

....... you are now IN that thick pipe. It is getting dark and you only have a black screen. Now click 10 times forward, always in the middle of the screen and ...... you crawl further and further through the pipe and go up a ladder in the pipe and ..... you are back in the open air at the other end of the thick pipe and on the other side of the island ..

You stand on a rocky ledge and look out over the ocean. Look down and then click 1 time to get to the next rock ledge. Turn left .... A rock path.

Go 5 times ahead on this rocky path and you walk back to the crater. Go further ahead and climb over the railing and .... you end up on the Balcony.

Turn right and click on the doors to open them and go inside.

You are at the beginning of an iron walkway that goes through a cave tunnel. Stop and turn around and click on one of the two doors again to close them.

You can then go left and right into a corridor, but do not do that yet. Turn around again and now go over the iron path until you cannot go any further and ... ... and you are zoomed in on the:

  Frog catcher:

You do not have to do this because it is not necessary for the game.

With this frog catcher Ghen catches the frogs from the river, deep under you. Ghen needs frogs to make the ink for the Linking Books that he has been trying to make for years, in his attempts to escape from his universe in which Atrus imprisoned him. If you also want to catch a frog you will first have to make sure that the Frog catcher has steam, otherwise the device will not go down. For this you will first have to go back to the lever on the pillar at the end of the jetty to turn this lever to the right again. You can go back to the jetty via the round hatch in the floor of the balcony and then descend the ladder. If you have then put the lever on the right again, you can return here via the ladder and the round hatch (which now remains open). Then click on top of the Sphere to open it. Then grab a piece of bait from the box to the right and keep your mouse pressed and click the bait on the "saucer" in the ball. Then pull the lever on the left and the Frog catcher will lower the depth. Do not expect that a frog will end up right away. That takes a while, so the best thing you can do is continue with the game and if you are back here again, the Frog catcher will be raised again via the handle and then there will probably be a frog. Now, however, you cannot catch frogs because you have not put that lever back in the lake to the right. And I'm not going to do this any further, I'll skip this whole Frog's catcher bit altogether

But why have you brought me here than?  Well look up and you see a rotating fan hanging above the frog catcher. You can see that the grid of the fan is hanging down. You can zoom in on the fan but you cannot climb into the tube behind it. First you have to switch off the fan. Look down again and turn around and walk back to the doors. Now click on the wall on the left of the doors. You then stand to the left of the doors for an opened narrow door and you see a staircase going down. Go down the stairs and click on the door to open it. You now see the revolving Marble Dome of this Crater Island.

Go forward through the door and stay there. Take a good look at the dome. You see again the symbols on the dome passing by.

I know it is hard to see, but try to see the one Yellow Symbol and try to draw it and note that this symbol belongs to this dome.

Then turn back to the door and click on it to close the door. As a result you see on your right a open tunnel. Go into the narrow tunnel and follow the tunnel to the Viewer.

Zoom in on the Viewer and ...... In the sight glass you can see all the symbols that are on the Dome.

So go to the button on top of the viewer and click on it frequently until you get the yellow symbol on the dome in the viewer, the outer dome will open.

When this has happened, turn right and walk back through the tunnel and you look again at the now golden colored dome. You can now walk there and walk around to see the lock between the halves of the dome. But that is the same as with the dome on the Jungle Island, so leave it for the time being. Turn around, open the door again and climb back up the stairs. To the right is the path to the Frog Catcher and to the left the balcony doors .. Go now 3 steps further through the hallway on the other side and you are outside again.

You are now on the iron path, which protrudes against the rock wall above the lake. This trail runs all over Crater Island, through a tunnel and ends at the Western Drawbridge which is the connection between Crater Island and the Golden Dome of Temple Island. . In the distance you can see the Laboratory of Ghen. Now go first 4 steps and ..... In the distance, see the Laboratory of Ghen. At the bottom right of your screen you just can see a lever.

Turn right to the rock face and .... you are standing in front of the lever. The lever is on the right. Click on the lever so that it is in the middle position

With this you have now turned off the fan above the Frog Catcher. Turn left again and continue 4 steps and turn right again. You are now in front of the entrance of Ghen's Laboratory but you cannot enter it because the doors are locked. Turn left again and now go 3 steps further on the path and you will be in the tunnel. Walk further through the tunnel and you come out again on the other side and ......

...... you are at the beginning of the Western Drawbridge and in the distance you can see the Golden Dome of the Temple Island. Walk across the bridge and while you do that you can see that there is a gap in the roof of the Golden Dome, which divides the roof into two halves. Your finally hit the last part of the Drawbridge. This part is up and this is the Western Drawbridge, which you have seen from the Temple Island. Walk up and ....... The upper part of the Drawbridge towers steeply into the air. You will see a lever at the bottom right of your screen. Click on the lever and .......

The upper part of the bridge lowers and you have restored the connection between the Crater Island and the Golden Dome

NB: You only can lower the bridge if you have turned a lever down in the beginning of the game. Remember when you walked for the first time through the golden Dome and you are gone out on the other side, you came across a short side-path to the left. At the end was a pipe with a picture of a bridge, on that pipe was also a lever. If you did not pull the lever to the left then, than you have to go back there to pull the lever to the left, that lever gives the bridge power.

That is annoying, because you will soon have to enter the Golden Dome via this connection. So if you cannot get this bridge down now, you will first have to go all the way back through the game to that one steam pipe behind the Golden Dome to put that handle back to DOWN and then return to the Frog Catcher. here on Crater Island.

You can return to the Golden Dome via the mine cart through the tunnel to Jungle Island and then via the tram that connects Jungle Island with Temple Island. To get back in the mine cart you go to the Wood chop mill. Behind the woodcutter is a ladder against the rock, you climb up and then you go through the round hatch and up the stairs and you go back into the mine cart and you click on the lever and you go back through the long tunnels to Jungle. Island. On Jungle Island you go down the upper part of the stairs to the beach and then left the stairs through the cave and with the tram back to Temple Island. Here you go through the temple cave and through the Portal Room to the Golden Dome and then through the Golden Dome and then you go to that steam pipe on the cross path and you still turn the lever to DOWN. And then you really have to take the same route all the way back to Crater Island and there you go to the Frog Catcher.

I assume, however, that you put the lever to the left and that you have now lowered the bridge. Do not go further into the Golden Temple now, because now we want to go for a sneak peek at Ghen's Laboratory. So turn around and walk all the way back over the bridge and ..... to Crater Island. Cross back through the tunnel and over the iron path and then back into the cave where the Frog Catcher is and the Dome of Crater Island. Go back to the Frog Catcher and go back in the close-up.

NB: If you where catching frogs then now is the time to see whether you have catch one because you will not returning here

Look up again and see ...... the fan is now out. Click twice in the round fan hole and you are in the round ventilation shaft. Crawl 5 clicks through the shaft and ..... through the ventilation grille, look in Ghen's laboratory.  Click on the round grid and it opens up, so jump down .....

You are now in ........

Ghen's Laboratory.

You are right in front of one of the tables. There is a book on the table

Click on the book a few times so that it is open on the first page. This is Ghen's diary. Browse the pages. After 3 clicks you will see a drawing of the Funnel Telescope on Temple Island.

After clicking again 5 or 6 times you are on a page where you see the Yellow Symbols of all 6 Marble Domes. Draw these 6 symbols on a piece of paper

Then click 3 or 4 pages further until you are on the page where you see a series of 5 D'ni numbers. This set of 5 D'ni numbers is important, but they are in every game it is different. Draw this series of 5 D'ni numbers now and indicate which number each symbol is. Do this exactly from left to right as you see this series. This is the Code with which you open ALL the inner domes of ALL 6 Marble Domes

I cannot give you the code that is right for you because it is different in every game, so you will most likely get a different code now than I do. But this time for me it was: 1, 2, 3, 10, 22. If you have this code now, you are actually done here on the Crater Island. However, if you  think that you can now open the Domes of which you have already opened the outer Dome, you are in for a big surprise. First you will have to open all outer Domes of the other 4 Domes.

Zoom  a few times out from the book. Then zoom in on the diary page on the left of the book. Read it. Ghen writes on this page about an Observation room from where he observes the villager and he talks about a strange object that has been found. Zoom out and click on the Wooden Eye. This rolls around and you hear another sound and you see the D'ni number 1 on it.

However, you still do not know at which animal this number and this sound belongs.

Zoom out and have a look at everything here in this lab, so click on everything you can click to view it in close-up. It is not all that important, but you will find out what a strange man Ghen actually is. Also open the oven in the middle of the Lab. You will find a burned Linking Book. You discover that there are two exits from the lab. One of the exits brings you to the tram line that connects Crater Island with the Plateau Island and the other, where the Blue Tram button stands for, brings you out on the walkway.

Go to the door where the blue Tram button is located and press the Blue tram button to bring the Tram from Plateau Island to here. Then go out through this door and turn right. Now follow the path again, through the tunnel, and then all the way across the Western drawbridge until you reach the Golden Dome.

Golden Dome, Portal Room and the Marble Dome on Temple Island

Again in the Golden Dome you go 2 steps forward and then left and follow the iron hanging path all the way. You cannot go any further because there is a piece of the path missing. On the other side you see the entrance to the Golden Dome from the connecting bridge to the Portal Room.

Click on the handle of the large turning wheel and the missing part of the path is rolled out.

Now walk 3 more steps forward, then turn left and continue to the connecting bridge. Click on the Bridge lever again to raise it again so that the bridge goes up and the Portal Room now connects with the roof of the Golden Dome. Now let the Bridge in the higher position

Turn around and go forward, then turn right and go back along the turning wheel to first the exit / entrance to the right.

This is the exit / entrance between the Western Drawbridge and the Bridge between the golden dome and the portal room. Walk out and ....... You can see that a piece is missing in the outdoor path. Look down and ......, deep below you can see the missing piece of the path. You were down there before, when you went through the Golden Dome the first time, and you'll be right down there again. Look up again and turn around to the Golden Dome and ...... a round Button ...... Click on the button and ...

....... You automatically turn back and ....... the missing piece path now rises. Continue on this path and you will reach the back door of Position 4 of the Portal Room.

To the right is the door handle in the rock, so click on the handle to open the door and then enter the hallway.

Position 4 of the Portal Room is therefore closed. Stay away from the Handle on the left.

Turn right to the Rotary Knob and then click 3 times to rotate the Portal Room 3 times. Turn back and see ...... Position 4 and Position 1 of the Portal Room are now open.

So you can now go into the Portal Room and out again via Position 1, but do not do that. Now let the Portal Room stand like this. Turn around and walk back across the path into the Golden Dome  In the Golden Dome you follow the iron path again to the left, past the turning wheel and then all the way down to the lower exit / entrance of the Golden Dome.

Step out via the bottom exit and follow the path until you are back on the platform in front of the tunnel.

Above you is the path to the back door of position 4 of the Portal Room. Turn right and press the button that does it now. You sink down. Below you turn around and ............

Then you walk through the tunnel, then up the stairs and you are at the Marble Dome of Temple Island.

Again zoom in on the Viewer and open the shell of the dome by clicking frequently op the button on top of the viewer. Write down the Yellow Symbol again.

The outer dome opens up. You can go and have a look, but as I said before ... all Golden Domes are the same.

We are finished for the time being with the Golden Dome, but we come back here to do the Marble Puzzle on the roof of the Golden Dome. But now you have to go back to the laboratory of Ghen and then, via the Tram, travel to the Plateau Island. So turn around and return via the stairs and the tunnel until you are back on the elevator. You then turn around and look back into the tunnel. Then click on the elevator button and you will go up again. Go back into the Golden Dome and follow the path all the way through the Dome to the Western Drawbridge and go over the Western Drawbridge back to the Crater Island.

Go back to Ghen's Laboratory and open the front door and step inside. Go through the lab to the other door, open the door and step outside.

Go down the stairs ........ to the tram. The Tram is already here because you previously pushed the Blue Button in the Lab.

NB: If the Tram is not here now, you climb back up to Ghen's Lab and then press the blue Tram button inside.

Step into the Tram and turn the Tram over by clicking on the round Handle.

If the Tram has turned itself, click the big handle in the middle and .......

Enjoy the ride to and you arrive at he Plateau Island and on arrival you are in .......

 Chapter 4: Plateau Island.
