Chapter 1: The Cleft in the Desert

 You  have to decide yourself if you find it easier to play in the 1st person or in the 3rd person.

After the short introduction movie you stand in a desert-like area and straight ahead you'll see a volcano. Stand still.........Look ahead and to the right of the volcano. You can see something in the distance. It looks like a kind of "antenna". Turn right now. Next to you is a white Stone on the ground and you now also see the barbed wire fence. Turn clockwise further. You will then see a wooden gate in the barbed wire fence and you will see a large metal plate that is leaning against the barbed wire to the right of the fence.

Run forward to the right side of that Metal Plate. There is space between the plate and the barbed wire. So enter the space behind the Metal Plate. 

The Camera automatically zooms in on the back of the metal plate. There is a carpet on the back of the plate.

This carpet is the first of the so-called "Journey Cloths". You have to find these "Journey Cloths" in every area you enter and then touch them to activate them. 

Go as close to this first "Journey Cloth" as possible and then  click on it. By clicking on a "Journey Cloth" you activate it and you have saved the game at this point.

When you have activated this 1st "Journey Cloth", return to that White Stone. Make sure you look again at the right side of the Volcano and then start running forward, towards that "antenna". Just keep running straight and suddenly you will see a Caravan. Run straight to the Caravan

Make sure you go straight to the caravan. There is a man in front of the caravan, under the awning in a chair. Go straight to the man. 

The man welcomes you and introduces himself. His name is Sandi and he is here to help you "on the way". He says, however, that he has no answers for you, only some hints.

Sandi then says that "She left a message in the CLEFT and that you have to look at this message". Sandi also tells you that you should "follow her" and that you should enter the "tree". When Sandi has told you all this then there will be a few moments of silence.......just wait until Sandi will speak again...... Sandi automatically gives you a hint because he says: "To activate the Imager you have to pull a lever"

Now you can go on, so turn right and then walk around the caravan to the other side of it.

On the other long side of the caravan is your 2nd "Journey Cloth", it's attached to the caravan Touch the "Journey Cloth" again to activate it.

When you have activated the 2e  "Journey Cloth" you turn clockwise. You will then see that "antenna", but it is not an antenna at all....... it is a WINDMILL. 

Behind the windmill is the Cleft in the desert ground and you will have to enter that Cleft. But we are not going to descend into the Cleft yet. First we will search for the 3rd "Journey Cloth". Walk to the windmill and then passed it.  If you are just past the windmill then turn around to the Cleft to see the Cleft really well

The "entrance", to decent into the Cleft,  is on the other side, left. But we are not yet entering the Cleft right now. 

Go in 1st person or 3rd person and then turn left and run along the volcano until you reach the remains of a Telescope.

This is what has remained of the Telescope with which you have ended Riven, it ended up here in the desert. Slightly further along you can see the Carcass of a Wahrk.

Run through to the Wahrk skeleton. The right side of the Wahrk Carcass is the head of the beast. Stand right in front of the Head and go in 1st person perspective. 

Now walk UNDER the head. You stand between the rib cage and, on the left side, you see your 3rd "Journey Cloth"

Go as close as possible to it and then click on it again to activate the "Journey Cloth". The "Hand Palm" is now fully activated. Still 4 "Fingers" to go.

Now go back to the Cleft, so run all the way back to the Cleft but stay on this side of the Cleft, do not go to the side where the Windmill is.

 Follow the fence, which is around the Cleft, to the left until you see a wooden jetty at the top of the Cleft.

Stand on the wooden jetty and walk to the edge. 

You automatically enter the 3rd person perspective and your avatar turns around automatically and climbs up to the ladder that goes down into the Cleft here. Climb further down via your down arrow key.

You are standing on a ledge at the top of a stone staircase and you see two rickety wooden bridges. You can now better go back in the 1st person perspective

Both bridges lead to the other side of the Cleft and there you see two "little rooms". You have to go there. Walk down the stairs and walk to the second bridge

Walk up the bridge and start to walk across it to the other side and ........... Alas .... the bridge breaks in two and collapse and you end up on the bottom of the Cleft. 

Turn to the left. You look through the Cleft to the other end and there you can now see the TREE.

Turn around so that you look at the other end of the Cleft. You see some ledges. Walk a few steps forward and then turn right. You will see another broken bridge hanging down. 

Walk to the downward hanging bridge, which is now a ladder. Walk up against the bridge / ladder and .......

........ your Avatar climbs into it. So climb up. You come on top of a new ledge and here are two rooms. 

Go straight into the first room and turn to the right wall. On the wall you can hang your 4th "Journey Cloth", so touch it to activate it. 

Go back to the ledge and enter the right room now. There is a letter on the bed.

 Click on the letter and it will appear in your screen. The letter is written by Atrus and is addressed to his daughter Yeesha. 

Read the letter and when you have read it, click on it again to put the letter back in bed. 

Go out of the room, turn right and follow this ledge to the end. Below you will see a lower ridge and from that lower ridge you will see 3 planks crossing the Cleft  to a low ridge on the other side. So you have to jump down here and you have to decide for yourself whether you will do this in 1st or 3rd person. So fall down to the lower ledge and walk across the 3 planks to the other side. 

On the other side you are standing on a short ledge. Turn left and press against the wall while you are at the extreme edge. It is best if you go back in the 1st person because then you can better jump down. 

So fall back down to a lower ledge and then walk to the hanging bridge section. Climb up via the bridge section and you will reach the upper ridge on the other side of the Cleft 

You stand in front of a open door. It is the entrance to the sitting room of Yeesha. The best thing to do now is to go to in 3rd person. Then walk in and stand still l, just as you are inside. 

You see your Avatar up frond, standing in the doorway of the sitting room. On your left, but for your Avatar on the right, you see a Blue Button next to the door. To the left of that blue button you see a wooden plank leaning against the wall. You also see that the plank leans against a Circle, drawn on the wall. Walk to this wooden plank and walk against it. Your Avatar "kicks" the plank away from the drawn circle. 

Go back to the 1st person and make sure you have a good view of  the circle, drawn on the wall. The Circle is divided into 4 segments and in each of the 4 segments is a symbol. Draw this Circle with the 4 symbols on a piece of paper. You must be able to recognize the 4 symbols and know where they are in the circle. 

Then turn around so that you look at the opposite wall. On the opposite wall is a wide ledge and on that ledge is a machine. It is a Holographic Imager. Walk towards it. 

On the Imager you also see a Circle with 4 Symbols. ........do not click on the 4 symbols NOW because then you will get into trouble later on in the game. 

Turn to the left. You then see the doorway to the back room. 

So go into the back room  and walk to the round table and then turn around. You look again at the connecting doorway with the stairs. 

To the right of the stairs is a device with a lever. Walk to this lever and click on it.

You hear a click sound but nothing else seems to happens. Walk to the closed door and click on the Blue Door button. Nothing happens. There is no power and so the door does not open. Go back to the sitting room via the connecting doorway. Then leave the sitting room through the open door. You're back on the ledge.....Immediately jump down to the bottom of the Cleft, or climb down to the lower ridge via the bridge section and then jump further down.

 Back at the bottom of the Cleft, walk straight ahead and then go to the left, to the hanging bridge on the other side. Climb back up through this bridge section. 

Back above turn right and then you climb up the stone stairs to the ladder. 

Climb back up the ladder, to be out of the Cleft again. You'll be back on the wooden jetty. 

Walk straight ahead and then walk around the Cleft to the Windmill. You can also go back to the caravan first to ask Sandi what to do next. But I already know that, so it is not necessary to go talking to Sandi again. On the right side of the Windmill a horizontal pole sticks out. Go in 3rd person and walk against that pole and then click on the front part of the pole and....... Your Avatar pushes the pole and thus triggers the Windmill in to movement. 

Your Avatar will automatically let go of the pole if he / she has pushed the windmill into movement. Go back to the wooden jetty and descend the ladder again,  back into the Cleft. Go down the stone stairs and walk to the back bridge where you tried to go over the first time. You can now climb down again via this bridge section or simply jump down to the bottom of the Cleft. Again at the bottom of the Cleft you climb through the rear bridge section to the ledge with the two rooms where you found Atrus's Letter.  Left of the left room, where the 4th "Journey Cloth" hangs, you fall down again to the lower ridge and then you walk back to the other side, over the 3 planks again

Then fall back down to the lower ledge and climb up again via the hanging bridge section and you will be standing in front of Yeesha's sitting room again. Enter Yeesha's sitting room again and go to the Imager Machine. Now click on the Blue Button in the middle of the Circle. Nothing happens but you zoom in on the circle. If you are still in 3rd person, switch over to 1st person.  You must now set the 4 symbols, which you saw in the circle drawing on the wall. If you had not clicked on this Circle before, 3 Symbols will already be good. Only the right symbol will now be wrong. Click on the right symbol until you have set the correct symbol. 

Then go back to 3rd person and click again on the Blue Button in the middle of the circle. The Imager now goes on and a Holographic Projection of Yeesha appears in the room. 

Turn around and go in 3rd Person to see Yeesha. Yeesha is walking through the room, so you have to turn to see Yeesha. Listen to Yeesha and follow her with your "eyes" as she walks through the room. During her story she points to the symbols in  the circle on the wall and then she walks to the wall in the back of the room and she let  the 5th "Journey Cloth" appear there. 

Yeesha continues and then she switches herself off via the blue button of the Imager.

 Go to the 5th Journey Cloth", and activate it.

 Now go back to the entrance doorway of the living room but do not go outside. Press the Blue Door button to close the entrance. Now you can open the door in the backroom. 

So go back into the t back room and open the outside door via the Blue Door Button. 

Go out and jump down to the bottom of the Cleft. 

You now have to go back to the, closed, door of Yeesha sitting room, so follow the same route as you have done twice before. 

So, first climb up the hanging bridge section to the ledge with the two rooms and then cross over the 3 planks again, and up again via the hanging bridge. 

Because you have closed the door of Yeesha's sitting room you now see the 6th "Journey Cloth" on the door....Touch it to activate it......

Turn around and jump back to the bottom of the Cleft and then walk through the Cleft to the OTHER END. That is the end on the side of the wooden jetty. 

At the end of the Cleft stands the Tree, but you'll also see a Bucket, that hangs in an installation. On the Bucket you'll see the "7th Journey Cloth". The bucket is high up ... you can not reach it.

There is a stone Door in the Tree and on the door you see a Hand. Click on the Hand, but nothing happens. 

The bucket must be lowered, so that you can activate the  "7th Journey Cloth". Turn back to the TREE and hen turn right. You see a slanted ledge and a stone staircase.

Walk up the slanted ridge and follow it up and then you go up through the stone stairs. You are back on the ledge where the door of Yeesha's back room is. Two bridges. Go into the 3rd person and walk up the front bridge. That is the bridge at the top of the stone staircase. There are a few holes in the bridge, so you have to jump over those holes......It is better to do this in 1st person perspective

When you made it to the other side, turn right and walk to the Bucket lift.  Go in 3rd person, so you see the foot pedal and then click on the foot pedal and ...... 

You press the foot pedal and this will lower the Bucket down to the bottom of the Cleft. 

Now just jump back to the bottom of the Cleft and walk to the Bucket lift. The Bucket is now hanging here. 

Go back to the 1st person and walk against the bucket. On the Bucket is your 7th "Journey Cloth" so activate it and see ..... the whole hand now lights up. 

You have found and activated all 7 "Journey Cloths" in this chapter ..... So say "Thank You Louis" and ... 

... walk to the Door In the Tree again and click on the Hand in the door again. The Hand now lights up and ...... The door slides open.

 Enter the TREE. Your Avatar turns around, bends backwards and comes to stand on a ladder in the Tree 

Climb further down and then follow the Path in the Hollow Tree to the end. 

You come to a small pillar and on this pillar is the RELTO AGE LINKING BOOK. Click on the Relto Linking Book to open it up in your screen. 

On the right page you see the "Island in the Clouds" That is the Relto Age. Click on it and ...... Your Avatar picks up the Relto book and attach the book on her / his belt. 

From now on you will find this Relto Linking Book at the bottom left of your screen. 

Your Avatar will press her / his hand on the Linking Picture and ....... well ..... LOADING and then you will end up in:
