Episode 3:   The Mole, The Mob and the Meatball

Office

Sam and Max, the comical Freeware Police duo, are killing time with a card game when suddenly the phone rings. It's the Commissioner again and he needs the help of the Freeware Police again. The headquarters of the most dangerous Mafia Gang, The Toy Mafia, is apparently located in "Ted E Bear's Mafia Free Playland and Casino". The Commissioner had a Mole, that is an Undercover Agent, in the Toy Mafia gang, but that agent has not been heard from for a while. Whether Sam and Max want to do some research and make contact with the Mole. To enter, a code phrase must be spoken and it reads "Does the carpet match the drapes", and the response phrase is "Well I'll never" followed by a slap in the face.

Walk to the right, to the rat hole. Read the "Jimmy Two-Teeth" sign on the floor in front of the rat hole.

The rat, Jimmy Two-Teeth" now earns his living as a "fench", i.e. as a buyer of stolen goods.

In front of the rat hole is an Ace of Spades card. Grab the Ace of Spades card.

Walk back to the left and then leave the office through the Office door. Sam and Max end up on the street.

As always, the Desoto Police car is parked on the corner in the side street. Click on the police car and drive  to:

Ted E Bear's Maffia Free Playland and Casino:

Sam and Max are welcomed to the casino by Lovely Bear. Lovely Bear gives Sam some play coins (tokens) and the conversation screen appears. 

Talk to Lovely Bear and use all the options and you will then be given the opportunity to say the code sentence. 

Then say "Does the carpet match the drapes?" and......

.......Lovely Bear does not answer with the correct code sentence. So we now know that Lovely Bear is not the Mole. Say you're looking for someone and Lovely Bear will refer you to Ted E Bear, who can be found in the back room. End the conversation. Take a look around the casino at your leisure. To the right of Lovely Bear is the "Wack Da Ratz" slot machine and to the right of it is the board with the rules of the game. Click on that board and read how to play the "Wack-Da-Ratz" game.

Wack-Da-Ratz:

Take the token from your inventory and click it on the "Wack-Da-Ratz" machine. Sam automatically draws his gun. 

You have to shoot at least 20 orange colored singing rats. So the yellow rats that don't sing don't count in the score.

It's on a clock, so you have to be a bit quick.

 You have to shoot 20 singing rats. If you don't make it in the time allotted, you put a new token in the machine to try again

 Keep playing this game until you win.

You win a "Ted E. Bear Magnet" which is a magnet that you can stick on a refrigerator. You have to win the "Wack-Da-Ratz" game because you will need that magnet later in the game. If you have won the "Wack-Da-Ratz" game, the magnet will automatically end up in your inventory. However, to be sure, check whether that is really the case.

Walk to the right from the "Wack-Da-Ratz" machine and you will end up at the Poker table, which is in the middle of the casino. At the poker table is the dealer, Cuddly Bear. There is 1 player and his name is Leonard. Hanging on the wall are 3 enormous bear heads, the "Disturbing Bear Heads". Just click on those "Disturbing Bear Heads" and...they'll sing to you.

Play Indian Poker

Talk to Cuddly Bear, the dealer, and say the code phrase. But Cuddly responds with "Wanna play cards?". So Cuddly is not the Mole either. Exit and then talk to Leonard. Leonard is a professional poker player and his game is Indian Poker. First say the code sentence to Leonard and you will then know that Leonard is not the Mole either. Then ask how Indian poker is played. In Indian Poker you are given a card that you have to stick on your forehead. Well...play a game of Indian Poker against Leonard, so say "Let's play some Indian poker".

The dealer deals 1 card to Sam and Leonard and both Sam and Leonard stick the card to their foreheads. So Sam can see Leonard's card but not his own card. And the same applies to Leonard. But Leonard bets his million tokens against Sam's 1 token. Leonard must have a lot of confidence that he will win. Say "We'll bet" and.....Sam bets his token and.....loses. Leonard will always bet all his tokens if he is confident that he will win and....Leonard always wins because Leonard cheats. So there's not much point in continuing to play. You first have to figure out how exactly Leonard is cheating. So say "We'll be back".

Walk back to the left, to the entrance of the casino. The entrance is a huge Clown with a big red Clown nose. Click on the clown nose and.....the clown nose shines and works like a mirror. You can see Leonard reflected in the clown's nose. Leonard sits exactly opposite the clown and if he has a card on his forehead, he can see in the clown's nose which card he has. So that's how Leonard cheats. Take your Ace of Spades card from your inventory and click it on the clown's nose.

Sam sticks the ace of spades on the clown's nose, hoping that Leonard will think he has the ace of spades card. Go back to the poker table and click on Leonard again and challenge him to a game of Indian Poker. Leonard now gets the Ace of Hearts, but he thinks he has the Ace of Spades, so Leonard bets all his tokens again against Sam's 1 token. So say "We'll bet" again and....this time Sam wins all of Leonard's tokens. Continue to the right. You will then see the door to the back room. There is a guard at the door. Click on the door and .... the guard stops Sam.

A password is needed to enter theback room. You don't know the password, but try the code sentence, because maybe this guard is the Mole. But no... the guard is not the Mole either. So say "We'll be back". From the back room door, walk to the bottom of the screen and you will see the "One-armed Bandit". This is a slot machine, so throw in a token.

Sam wins but doesn't get a prize, but while Sam is working with the One-Armed Bandit, Chuckles comes out of the back room.

Chuckles looks at Sam for a moment and then whispers the password to the back room to the guard. Chuckles disappears again. Unfortunately, Sam was unable to understand the password. Walk to the right and leave the casino through the Clown Door and...Sam and Max drive back in the police car to the side street next to their office. Walk to the right, to the store of:

Bosco:

Enter Bosco's and talk to him. Bosco has once again disguised himself and pretends to be a French anarchist. Talk to Bosco in detail about the Toy Mafia. Bosco believes that the Toy Mafia want to deliver something to his store and that is why he has installed an "anti-delivery system" in his store. Ask how the "B-tads 2" system works and Bosco will explain. Then use the "We wanna buy something" option and buy, for your 1 million tokens, the "miniature organic listening device" , which Bosco sells "under the counter".

The listening device turns out to be a "bug", an insect. Leave the store and drive back in the police car to:

Casino:

Walk to the door of the back room and talk to the guard again. The guard asks for the password again. Ask "let us in", but the guard is only allowed to let members of the Toy Mafia through. End the conversation. Then take the insect from your inventory box, i.e. the "Organic Listening Device" and click with it on the guard and..... the "Bug" takes position on the edge of the buffet, hanging behind the guard. Throw another token into the "One-Armed Bandit" and.....Chuckles comes out again and whispers the password to the guard again. Stand in front of the back door. You will then see the insect hanging behind the guard.

So click on the "organic listening device" and Sam will now hear the password, which is "Leave the gun. Take the cannolis".

So click on the guard again and then click on the sentence "Leave the gun. Take the cannolis" and...

.........Sam and Max now go through the door and end up in the:

Back room:

Sam and Max are welcomed by Chuckles. Chuckles asks if Sam and Max want to join the Toy Mafia. So say "Sounds good". But before Sam and Max can really become members of the gang, they have to complete 3 assignments. So ask Chuckles more about those 3 assignments to experience what they entail:

"Lean on someone" = Sam and Max have to place a teddy bear in Bosco's store.
"Whack someone" = Sam and Max have to kill Sybil Pandemik. Sybil turns out to be a witness in a case against the Toy Mafia.
"Recover something" = Sam and Max have to find the Original "Meatball Sandwich" that was stolen..

Say "I think we've got it" and then tell Chuckles the code sentence to see if Chuckles is the Mole. Well...that turns out not to be the case. You're not allowed to talk to the Boss anyway, so just end the conversation. Take a look in your inventory box. Chuckles has given Sam a Teddy Brear Box and you should now have it in your inventory.

Walk to the right. There is a "Sinister door" in the right wall. Next to this "sinister door" there is a screen with 10 TV monitors in the wall.

Click on each of the 10 monitors and Sam will tell you what he sees on each of those monitors. One of the monitors shows Sybil's office and another shows a room with a beautiful carpet. So the Toy Mafia keeps an eye on Sybil via a hidden camera. Walk back to the left and leave the back room through the Casino door. Take a quick walk around the casino and notice a few things. You notice that the One-Armed Bandit has lost an Arm (lever). You also notice that Cuddly, the poker table dealer, and Leonard are gone. To the left of the Clown Door is the display case that should contain the "Original Meatball Sandwich". But well...the display case is empty. So Sam and Max have 3 assignments to complete, so let's do that.

Assignment 1: place the teddy bear in Bosco's shop:

Leave the casino through the clown door. We end back up on the corner of the side street near Sam and Max's office. Go to the Bosco store. Cuddly, the casino dealer, is standing in front of Bosco's store reading a newspaper and trying his best not to see Sam and Max. If you try to talk to Cuddly he won't say anything. Enter the store and talk to Bosco again. Tell Bosco "Look, it's the Toy Mafia". Sam points Bosco to Cuddly who is standing guard outside. Bosco now goes behind his counter and looks through the window with his binoculars to keep an eye on that Cuddly. Take the Teddy Bear Box from your inventory box and click it on the round table with the red/white checked tablecloth.

Sam places the Teddy Bear Box on the table but unfortunately Bosco's anti-delivery system comes into action and blows the Teddy Bear Box out. Max runs outside to get the teddy bear back. So this didn't work. Walk slightly to the left. The blue Anti-deliver camera is located to the left of the counter. As you continue walking you will notice that the camera rotates with you. Take the Ted E.Bear Magnet from your inventory and click the magnet on the Anti-deliver camera. Sam sticks the magnet on the camera and......

......the camera is thrown out by the anti-delivery system. Walk back to the round table and place the Teddy Bear Box on it again and... 

......this time it goes well and... Cuddly Bear comes in and judges that you have completed assignment 1.

Assignment 2: Kill Sybil Pandemik:

Leave Bosco's shop and walk back to the side street where the police car is. Cross the side street to the front door of Sybil's shop. Go inside and talk to Sybil. Sybil has changed careers again. She is now a Professional Witness and that is why the Toy Mafia wants Sybil killed. In any case, ask Sybil "Have you considered faking your own death?" But Sybil doesn't want to know about that, Sybil thinks faking her own death is unfair. Also ask "You seem....nervous". Sybil drinks a lot of coffee and Sam suggests that she should start drinking de-caffeinated coffee. End the conversation when you have asked everything. In front of Sybil is her large coffee mug. So Sybil is so nervous that she keeps drinking from her empty coffee mug. Grab the coffee mug when Sybil puts it back on her desk.

Walk to the left, to the door. However, don't click on the door yet. 

There is a large cactus plant both to the left and right of the door. There is a Webcam on top of the left cactus.

Click on the webcam and Sam explains that the Toy Mafia is keeping an eye on Sybil through this webcam. Leave Sybil's shop and return to Bosco's shop. Go back inside Bosco and walk to the Fine Kwizine corner. So on the left of the kitchen cabinets is the ketchup/mustard machine, the Condiments. Take Sybil's coffee mug from your inventory and click it on the Condiments and Sam fills the coffee mug with red ketchup.

Leave Bosco's and return to Sybil. Take the coffee mug filled with ketchup from your inventory and click on Sybil with it. Sam places the coffee mug back on her desk in front of Sybil. Immediately take out your gun and hit the coffee mug with it and.....Sam smashes the coffee mug...the ketchup gets on Sybil and the Toy Mafia thinks Sybil is dead

Max eats the webcam so that the Toy Mafia can no longer look into Sybil's store and sees that Sybil is still alive. Task 2 completed.

Assignment 3: Find the Meatball Sandwich:

Leave Sybil's and now go back to Sam and Max's office. Upon entering we see Leonard talking to rat Jimmy-Two-Theeth.

So Leonard is the thief of the Meatball Sandwich and he tries to sell it to Jimmy-Two-Teeth. 

Leonard notices Sam and Max and pulls out his gun and holds Sam and Max at gunpoint. 

The conversation screen appears. You can switch between Sam and Max.

You start as Sam and you first use all possible sentences as Sam. If you, as Sam, have nothing new to say, you switch to Max. Max has noticed that Leonard's gun is fake, so as Max say "Hey, is that a cap gun?" and.....Max knocks Leonard out and ties him up. You now have Leonard fake pistol in your inventory. But Leonard refuses to tell where he hid the Meatball Sandwich, so it's time to force Leonard to do so via the "Mother Torture".

As Sam you say the beginning of a sentence to Leonard and as Max you finish the sentence. Use the arrows to scroll up or down through the sentence screen.

"Yo' mama's so fat.........She has more folds than an origami accordion".
"Yo' mama's so radiant.......If she fell in nuclear waste, no one would notice".
“Yo' mama's so perky......The only time she's low is at a limbo contest”.
"Yo' mama's so thrifty......She brings coupons to the penny arcade".
"Yo' mama's so vulgar.......Her mouth would make a longshoreman blush".

This is too much for Leonard and he then tells that he hid the Meatball Sandwich in the one-armed Bandit of the casino and then took the arm of the One-armed Bandit. Sam then picks up the One-Armed Bandit's arm from the floor

Sam Sam and Max leave the office. Jump in the police car and drive back to:

Casino:

Back in the Casino, walk to the right, to the One-Armed Bandit slot machine. 

Take the Bandit Arm from your inventory and click it on the slot machine and Sam puts the arm/lever back on the slot machine.

Click on the slot machine again with a token and....Sam wins the original Meatball Sandwich.

Chuckles enters and takes Sak and Max into the back room so they can be inducted as members of the Toy Mafia gang. 

The big boss Ted E Bear takes off his bear mask and... it turns out to be Harry... the Mole that Sam and Max are looking for. ..

Sam speaks the code sentence and Indeed Ted E. Bear is Harry the Mole but unfortunately......

.......Harry has defected to the Mafia and now orders to kill Sam and Max. 

Sam and Max manage to flee from the casino but are now being chased by the Mafiosi.

The chase:

Sam and Max race through the street in their police car while being chased by the Mafiosi. The bad news is that the mafiosi's car is bulletproof, including the tires. So there is absolutely no point in shooting at the Toy Mafia gang's car. As you speed through the street, you notice that every few meters there is a large billboard hanging above the street. Pull out your gun and make sure the Mafiosi car drives right behind Sam and Max. If you are right in front of such a billboard, you shoot and hit it and.....the billboard hits the road and the mafia car crashes.

Sam en Max then go back to the:

Casino:

We're in the back room again. Everyone is gone. You can take a look around the space behind the fence, but it's not really necessary.

Walk to the right and then go through the Sinister (Do not Enter) door and.... we end up in:

The Factory:

Here is where the "Hypnosis Teddy Bears" are made and Harry, or Ted E. Bear, tries to hypnotize Sam and Max with such a teddy bear. What Harry doesn't know is that Sam is still wearing the Anti-Hypnosis Helmet under his hat. If you have played Episode 1 then you know what is meant by the anti-hypnosis helmet. Harry, thinking that Sam is hypnotized, orders Sam to shoot Max. So Sam has to pretend that he is hypnotized, so grab Leonard's fake pistol (cap gun) from your inventory and shoot Max with it.

Max plays "dead" and ........well....Max makes a whole show of it........see what happens next.

Max lies on the ground looking "dead". Walk to the left via the bottom left. You will then see the broken One-Armed Bandit on the table.

You also see Harry standing in the door. To the left of the One-Armed Bandit is a green Screwdriver. Grab the screwdriver.

Immediately take the screwdriver from your inventory and click with it on the One-Armed Bandit. 

A green "Voice Box" falls from the One-Armed Bandit and this voice box says the phrase "You're on fire". 

Take the Voice Box from the prize bin of the One-Armed Bandit.

Click on the green machines, which are under the conveyor belt, and Sam walks towards them. Then walk from those 2 green machines, past the windows, to the right and Sam will be standing next to the Robot. The robot always takes a Red Voice Box from the orange bin (hopper) and puts such a voice box in the machine where the Voice Box is placed in the teddy bears. Take the green Voice box from your inventory and click on the orange box to place the voice box in the box among the other voice boxes.

The robot takes the green Voice Box and puts it in the machine and......

......the Teddy Bear that now has the green voice box now in falls off the conveyor belt and lies on Max's floor. 

Walk back to the left and then pick up the Teddy Bear (altered Teddy Bear) from the floor. "You're on fire" says the Teddy Bear.

Walk to Harry, who is still standing in the door. Take the Teddy Bear from your inventory and click with it on Harry and...

...Harry thinks he is on fire and runs away to the right and tries to pull the fire extinguisher from the wall. He can't do that.

 Also walk to the right, but in front of the conveyor belt. So Harry is pulling the fire extinguisher. 

There is a large lever in front of the green machine. Click on that Lever and......

..........Watch the END of Episode 3....

Harry is sucked in and ends up in the conveyor belt via the suction installation. However, Harry is too fat and blocks the system and...

.....Sam and Max run out of the factory and the Casino and....the Factory explodes. 

We then see Secret Agent Chuckles in the street. Chuckles sets "Plan B" in motion:
