Gog.com version of the game

Chapter 3: Ghana

Sam has landed at Bosumtwi airport. Airport? it is no more than a sandy path in the jungle and the passenger terminal is an old wrecked wooden hut.

Take a look in the inventory at the things Sammy took with her on her journey ... it is the Fax, the mobile phone, a photo camera, a pocket knife, a lighter and a Dictaphone. Why they let someone take a lighter with them in computer games, while smoking is not allowed, is still a mystery to me today. We are in the jungle and if there is a need to make a fire then we can surely rub 2 tree twigs together? But ok ..... maybe I am too critical.

Sam is standing in front of the hut and we hear a cat howl sitting on the lounger. To the right of the hut, a path enters the jungle. A Megaphone stands on a pole in front of the comfortable toilet. Immediately to the left of the toilet is a barrel and again to the left of the barrel is a box with batteries. On the "counter" is a yellow lemonade bottle. The roof of the hut is a tent cloth with 2 points and the cloth is supported in the middle by a pole. If you want, you can view everything first (right click) and then enjoy Sam's highly intelligent commentary. I have had enough of Sam's remarks again so I immediately grab everything that can be grabbed.

Take the Megaphone .... Sam tries the megaphone right away and ..... well ... the thing produces a good sound. Take the batteries

Take the yellow lemonade bottle. View the Pole .....

you zoom in on the pole and there is a cap hanging on the pole. Take the Cap ..... The cap hung on a metal Hook, which is screwed onto the pole. Sam can't pull the hook loose from the pole with her hands, so use the pocket knife on the hook to unscrew the thing .....

I wish I could unscrew 2 screws so quickly ..... it usually takes me more effort and a lot of cursing. The wooden pole is full of scratches, view the scratches. Sam thinks the scratches were made by a larger "cat" than the one sitting on the chair. Go out of the pole close-up. To the left of the hut is a long pole with a windsock hanging on it and wooden crates on it. The windsock pole is held upright by steel cables that are attached to sticks that stick into the ground.

View the Windsock and view the left steel cable (Wire rope).

If you right click on the left steel cable you end up in the close-up of the Cable connector. The connector is the connecting piece between the 2 cables to loosen a cable, the 2 screws must be loosened, but Sam does not have the tools for that yet, so get out of this close-up. View the wooden boxes, which are further on. They are storage boxes. Walk back to the hut. To the right of the hut a path enters the jungle .... well .... Enter the jungle now and ......... You'll get on the Jungle Map.

you see the path through the jungle ..... the path goes from the Landing Strip to the Camp, on the other side of the jungle. Sammie is at the bottom. A river flows through the jungle and the path goes over that river over a bridge. On the map you can only click on "Landing Strip" and on "Camp" Sam wants to go to the Camp, so click on "Camp" and Sam ends up at:

The Swamp:

Sammie thinks it is quite smelly in the jungle, logical because she ended up in a kind of swamp and a frightful looking warthog is barely blocking the path.  If you try to let Sam go further she does not dare to walk because of the warthog. Try if Sam can chase the boar away with the megaphone ..... so grab the Megaphone from inventory and click it on the boar and well ...

.....the boar is not impressed by Sam's pathetic attempt. Walk back to the right to return to the map and then return to the landing strip. Back at the landing strip hut, move Sam to the cat, who is still moaning on the lounger. Take the Voice recorder from inventory and click with it  on the cat to record the moaning of the cat.

Then dive back into the jungle and the swamp is now available on the map, because Sam has just been there. So click the "Swamp" location to end up there again. Back at the boar you combine the Voice recorder with the Megaphone in inventory.

Then take the Mega / Dictaphone combo from inventory and click it again on the warthog and.....The beast still is not impressed by the howling of cat. Open the inventory again and now combine the old batteries with the Mega / Dictaphone combo ..... Sam then puts the batteries in the voice recorder. Take the megaphone combo from inventory again and click it again on the boar and .....the batteries strengthens the cat's noise and this the boar can't take and the beast now runs away. An old rotten hollow tree trunk lies on the floor in front of Sam ..... View the tree trunk ...... You get in a close-up of the tree trunk. There is a long branch on the tree trunk. Take the Branch......

We then see nasty red ants crawling over the tree trunk. Go out of the close-up and follow the jungle path then further (Into the jungle) and ...... You will see Sam on the map again .... Click on "Camp" again to move Sam further down the path let run and  Sam then reaches the next stop,  the suspension bridge over the river:

Suspension bridge:

Sam looks at the bridge and reports that one of the ropes is broken and that she must first repair the bridge before she can walk across it.

The bridge is hanging over a deep gorge, through which the river flows. Below Sam a bag hangs on the rock in the gorge. View that bag .... It appears to be a tool bag and Sam wants that bag. Combine the pocket knife with the Cap in inventory to pull a thread out of the cap ..... Sam then discards the cap but she has a thread. Combine the Thread with the Long branch and then the Coat hook with the Branch, to tie the hook to the branch .... Sam then has a "Long Hook".. Take the Long  Hook from inventory and use it to pull up the tool bag

Right-click in inventory on the bag to take the stuff out of it and that is a wrench, a measuring tape, a paint brush and a pencil.

Sam needs a steel cable to repair the bridge, so she has to go back to the landing strip because she can find a steel cable there. So go back one screen to the left to return to the map and then return to the Landing Strip. Back on the landing strip you walk to the windsock pole.

Then right-click again on the left steel cable (Wire rope) that holds the pole to the ground. You get into the close-up of the Connector again. Unscrew the 2 wing nuts with the Wrench and Sam takes the connector but luckily the pole keep standing upright.

Return to the Suspension Bridge through the jungle map. Right click on the broken Rope that hangs down from the right bridge pole.

Click with the Connector on the split piece in the cable (Snapped rope) .... you get in the:

Repair the bridge cable puzzle:

To the right is the cable connector, in various parts. You now have to install the parts of the connector over the split in the cable.

From top to bottom the components are the Wing Nuts, the Connector Housing and the Perforated plate. First pick up the Connector housing and click it over the cable break, then click the perforated plate on the connector housing and finally and one by one, the 2 wing nuts and you're done ......

Gosh...... this was really 100% the most complicated puzzle I ever had to solve in a computer game.

Get out of the close-up and hurry over the bridge, into the Jungle on the other side of the gorge and ....... To make this very short game look longer you end up on the map screen again, so click again with your cursor on the Camp and ..... Sam no longer encounters any more obstacles and  finally she ends up at:

The Camp:

Sam finds a broken down hut here. A palm tree fell on the hut and more or less crushed the hut and there is no one around. There is a campfire place in front of the hut and there are 3 tripods stands. Under the hut is a pile of firewood. Number the 3 tripods that stand here in front of the hut, A, B, C ..... Between the tripods A and C is a motion sensor on the floor.

Pick up the Sensor and view the thing in inventory. Sam then tells you it is a 160 degree sensor. There is also a sensor on stand B. View the sensor on stand B. Sam says it is a 90 degree sensor. Take the Sensor from tripod B.

Continue to the right. Sam then ends up at a thick tree, which is standing to the right of the hut. IA chest hangs  in the tree on a rope that is attached to a winch. The 3rd tripod stands next to the tree and the 5th tripod stands behind the hut Ok ..... so there are 5 tripods around the cabin and there is a sensor on every tripod. You have already numbered the 3 front tripods A, B, C, so number the 2 rear tripods D and E where the tripod is at the tree E. Sam now has the 160 degrees and the 90 degrees sensors in inventory

Firewood is under the hut. Take the Firewood. Then crawl under the hut via right click on the "Beneath the hut" place

Sam crawls under the hut and looks at the rotten floorboards of the cabin floor. Left click on the Floorboards but Sam doesn't want to risk her fingernails. So click with the Wrench on the floorboards and Sam rams the boards out the floor and we see then the bottom of a metal cabinet .On the right is a piece of metal Pipe.

Take the metal Pipe and get out of the close-up to crawl back from under the hut.

Walk back to the campfire place and then put the firewood in the campfire place. Then light the wood with the Lighter.

Walk back to the tree. The winch has no lever, so Sam has to put it together himself. In inventory, combine the Wrench with the metal pipe and then take this combo from inventory and attach it to the round winch. Sam immediately hoists the crate down. Left click on the crate and ......

Sam steals a Sleeping bag, a small key, and solar panels and 2 more sensors from the box. The sensors are 120 degrees and 75 degrees.  Crawl under the cabin again and use the small key on the lock, which is in the bottom of the metal cabinet and ...... the bottom opens.

Take the following items from the cupboard: the Laptop, the Sensor, the red first aid kit and the letter. The sensor is the 2nd 90 degree sensor. Right-click on the letter in inventory to read the letter. It is a letter from Hartmann to his wife on the occasion of their 22nd wedding anniversary ..... the letter was written on 2 April 2008 ....... 02.04.2008 note this down.

Right-click in inventory on the first aid box to get the stuff out of it .... Painkillers, pure alcohol and rolls of gauze bandage. Right click on the laptop to learn that the thing's battery is empty. Right-click on the Solar panels. You have to put the solar panels together:

Solar panels puzzle

You have a "Charging Regulator", a Power Supply, an "Adapter cable", a "Connecting cable", a "Power Cable" and 4 panels. The lower solar panel has a black connector at the bottom right. Via the turning arrow you can turn everything again if necessary.  Pick up the "Connecting cable" and click with it on the turning arrow to turn the cable horizontally and with the thick connection on the left. Then click the cable on the right side of the "Charging regulator". Pick up the battery and click the battery somewhere under the "Charging regulator" so that the thing is out of the way. Do the same with the 2 remaining cables. You then have room to attach the 4 solar panels. First attach the panel with the black connector to the cable that sticks out the right side of the charging regulator. The click the other 3 panels to the first panel connectors and slots to each panel. This is how it should look ....

When you have clicked the solar panels together in the correct way, you will go out of the close-up and then crawl back out from under the hut.

hen, in inventory, combine the Solar Panels with the Laptop

At the bottom of the screen you see a fairly flat rock that is warmed by the sun. Place the Laptop on the Rock and .....

the solar panels are now being charged by the sun and the Laptop is now receiving power. Right-click on the Laptop and ......

A pin code must be entered. The letter that you swiped out the cupboard, under the hut, mentioned Hartmann's wedding day, so that will be the code for the laptop. You must use the laptop's keyboard to click the code in the screen. Click on the following number keys: 020486 and then click the Enter key and..........

Sam gets "inside" and now has access to "Documents", "Email", "Photos", "Maps", "Music" and "Weather". Read and view everything.

Look in "Maps". On the 1st map you can see the area around the camp. You can see the 5 sensors that are placed around the cabin and that should have provided protection. Make a note of the maps boxes in which the 5 sensors are located and also try, via the dotted line, to determine the angle at which the sensors are relative to each other. Browse to the next map. You see the camp, the suspension bridge and the landing strip but we now also see the Mission post, which Hartmann talked about in his report

Log out of the laptop. It is late and Sam wants to go to sleep, but before she dives into the sleeping bag, she wants to place the 5 movement sensors on the 5 tripods as protection against possible intruders. In inventory you have the 5 Sensors and around the hut are the 5 tripods, which you have already numbered A, B, C, D, E. Each sensor has a certain degree, You have 2 90 degree sensors, a 120 degree sensor, a 160 degree sensor and a 75 degree sensor. You have to place the right sensor on the right tripod.

The stands A, B, C. are located in front of the hut, so at the campfire. Behind the hut there is stand D and at the tree stands stand E. In inventory you do not see which sensor has which degree, therefore you always first right click on the sensors so that Sammie tells you how many degrees the sensor is. Then pick up the sensor from inventory and place the thing on the right tripod. Sam is now at the laptop and so they give you the tripods C, D and E.

Walk to Tripod D and place a 90 degree sensor on the tripod. On Tripod E you place the 75 degree sensor.

Place the 160 degree sensor on tripod C.

On tripod B you place the 2nd 90 degree sensor. You then place the 120 degree sensor and on tripod A.

If you have put all the sensors on the correct tripods Sam will say so

Sam will go to sleep automatically but ...... In the middle of the night Sam will wake up from sounds .....

From the jungle a lot of red eyes peek at Sam ....

Take the camera from inventory and click it on the jungle Trees to take a picture of the red eyes and ....

the camera flash drives away the red eyes and Sam goes to sleep and it becomes the

Next morning

Sam got up fresh and cheerful. However, the campfire is now out. Right click in inventory on the photo camera to see the photo that Sam took of the red eyes. It turns out to be a character that Sam has never heard of before.

Close the close-up screen and then walk left into the jungle to get to the map and see that the church, the mission post, has become available.

So click on the "Mission" and we end up there.

Mission:

Sam calls out if there's someone home and Sister Maria opens the door and tells that Hartmann and all other members of the expedition have arrived but they have a strange illness and a high fever. The church is therefore a quarantine zone and Sam is not allowed inside. But Sister Maria also says that Hartmann has been kidnapped. Sister Maria tells about the Asanbosam creatures and that those creatures drag their prey to the caves to eat them. In the Sister Maria gives the Diary of Father Samuel to Sam. Sister Maria disappears into the church again.

Right-click in inventory on Father Samuel's diary and read it all the way through.

Scroll through the pages through the black arrows and listen to Sam reading the important a loud. On the last page you can read what is needed for the "The Protection Ritual" and see drawings of 5 flowers that are needed for the ritual.

Click the curve arrow to close the diary and Sam then reports that a loose blank sheet of paper has fallen out of the diary and that sheet of paper is then in the inventory. To the left of the church is the graveyard. Go to it:

Graveyard:

There are 5 tombstones that you can click on. At the leftmost tombstone is a clay dish. View the 5 tombstones, so right-click on the 5 tombstones, and Sam will then read the names on the tombstones. You then discover that the large tombstone on the left is the grave of Father Samuel. There is only the name on the stone of Samuel, no epitaph and no date, but the stone is decorated with symbols and Sam is curious about that. Take the blank paper from inventory and click it on the Samuel tombstone to note down the symbols on it. Then take the Clay bowl to put it in inventory.

Open the inventory and scroll through the items to the Pocket Knife. Grab the pocket knife and scroll through the inventory back to the sheet of paper with the tombstone symbols on it and then click with the pocket knife on the paper to cut it into 9 pieces. Then right-click on the 9 pieces and you will be in a jigsaw puzzle again.

You have to click the 9 pieces together again so that you get a route map to the Asanbosam caves.

Through the turning arrow you can turn pieces that are lying around again. When you're done, it looks like this.

Exit back to the front of the church. To the right in front of the church is a grassy area. View the grassy area with your eye cursor (so right-click) and .....

The tall grass  is teeming with multicolored plants and flowers. You now have to pull the 5 plants from the grass that you saw on the last page of that Father Samuel's diary, and so they are the "Star Lilly Blossom", "Alyssum Blossom", "Rose Herb Blossom", "Goethe Plant Blossom "and the" Hyacinth Blossom ".  Stay in close-up but open the Father Samuel diary and scroll through to the last page and see what the 5 plants you need to pick look like. Then click on 1 of the corresponding plants in the grass and Sam will pick the plant .....

Then do this for each of the 5 plants, so to be able to pick a good plant you always open the last page of the diary for each plant.

When you have all 5 plants in inventory, close the close-up screen.

Go through the bottom of the screen back to the map and go back to:

Camp:

The campfire went out during the night, but luckily there is still firewood in the campfire place. Light the campfire again with the lighter again.

Then combine the yellow lemonade bottle with the clay bowl in inventory

Then click the bowl on the campfire to bring it to the boil.

Sam automatically returns the hot lemonade bowl to the inventory. Walk back into the jungle and travel through the map back to the:

Swamp

Zoom in again on the hollow tree trunk, from which you have taken the long branch earlier ........

We see the red ants running over the tree trunk again and Sam now has to catch 5 of those ants. In inventory, combine the Paint Brush with the Clay bowl filled with Syrup to dip the brush in the syrup. Then take the Paint Brush from inventory and click it on an Ant  and do it 5 times to catch 5 Ants ......The ants move quite fast so you have to quickly and precisely click on an Ant with the brush to catch the critters. You only catch an ant if you click on an ant with the brush when you read  "Ant" on the ant.

The last Ant is difficult to catch because it's fast.

When you have caught 5 ants, go out of the close-up and walk back into the jungle to return to the map.

The Caves are now also on the map so click the "Caves" and Sammie runs towards it.
