Chapter 4: The Wild Lands: Part 3:

Trapped in Mortroga's Castle:

Ivo:

After the loading we ended up in the torture chamber of Mortroga ...... Ivo, Critter and a nameless skeleton are hanging on chains ....

So you are Ivo. Ivo's inseparable companion Tschiep-Tschiep sits on top of the red phone booth. Talk to Tschiep-Tschiep and use the conversation options. Unfortunately the bird cannot help to free Ivo. Go talk to Critter. Critter has his own language but he understands Ivo. Use the conversation options. Critter frees himself from the shackles and takes a metal bar with which he then tries to free Ivo. Unfortunately it does not work and Critter throws the rod on the floor. You are now:

Critter:

So now you play as the pink beast Critter.  

If you have played "The Critter Chronicles", the prequel to "The book of Unwritten Tales, then you know who and what this Critter is. 

Look at the bar and then pick it up

Look at the nameless skeleton, dangling from the left chains .....

Then click on the skeleton with your grasping hand to tear a piece of cloth from its clothing.

Click the door cursor on the door on the left. Critter turns out to be very agile and slippery because he slides out of the room, under the door, and ends up on the outer gallery. The torture chamber is guarded by a huge Troll, who sleeps in the alcove on the floor. Under the Troll's huge left hand lies a bunch of keys and at his right foot lies a hammer. Behind the Troll hangs a rubber Chicken on the wall.

First look at everything again with your magnifying glass and then try to see if Critter can grab the keys and the hammer, butthat will not work. Try to catch the chicken.......you will succeed and it turns out to be a rubber chicken. Go back to Ivo in the torture chamber. A "chat" with Ivo ensues in which Critter tells Ivo, through gestures, about the troll and the keys. Ivo would like those keys, so she sends Critter off again with orders to get the keys at all costs. So go back outside and now walk past the Troll to the right. Critter will then reach the stairs. Under the lowest stairs you see a cave with 2 feeding bowls with fire in front. The cave is a dog house ...

Check out the doghouse and also check out the 2 fire bowls. Click the door cursor to walk up the stairs and ......

Critter then lands all the way up on the roof of the castle, behind Mortroga's throne.

Right behind the throne is a robot guard (Black guard) and to the left of the throne is a skull table with parchment scrolls on it. Mortroga is sitting on her throne. In front of the guard is a red vase and, a little to the left, you see a wooden barrel. Look at the robot guard, the red vase and the wooden barrel. Critter takes a drawing from the barrel and looks at those drawing for a moment and then puts it back in the barrel. If you click on the barrel again with your magnifying glass, Critter takes out another drawing but also puts it back in the barrel.

Look at the table with the parchment scrolls on it. Critter walks to the table but fearfully stays out of Mortroga's sight.  It is too dangerous to take the scrolls from the table now, so don't try this yet . Further to the left are a few semi-circular bins, from which foul smoke billows. There is also a rusty bin (container) and a pile of cannonballs in the corner. Look at the molding trough and take a cannonball from the stack. 

The cannonball slips out of Critter's hands and rolls to the right and then over the edge of the roof and then ends up on a flexible shelf .... the shelf catapults the cannonball back up and finally the bullet plunges into the depths. Meanwhile  Critterhas walked back to the robot guard.

Walk back to the cannonballs and the rusty container.  Critter has "tell" in his own way that the rusty container is full of some sticky black pitch. In inventory, combine the piece of cloth, that you tore from the skeleton in the torture chamber, with the iron bar and then dip the bar in the rusty container and Critter will have a torch in inventory.

Walk back to the left, to the red vase and the robot guard, and then click the door cursor on the stairs, bottom right, to go back down. 

Back downstairs, Critter is in front of the dog house with the 2 food bowls where fire is on fire. 

Take the torch from inventory and light the torch in the fire of 1 of the feeders .....

In inventory, Critter then has a burning torch. Walk to the Troll and set his pants on fire with the burning torch and ......

.........the Troll flees in flames. Now that the Troll has disappeared, pick up the bunch of keys ..

..... the hammer is too heavy for Critter, so you can't grab that hammer now.

Go back to the torture chamber and now free Ivoby clicking on her foot chains with the keys and ....

........via an acrobatic somersault, Ivo manages to free himself further. Switch to....

Ivo:

As Ivo you also first look around in the dungeon. Look at the door. The door is locked and Ivo cannot slide under the door and Critter makes it clear that he cannot open the door either. At the door is an iron cage and in front of the cage you see a small cell, locked with a padlock. Look at the iron cage and look at the cell. Tthere is something, ore someone, in the cell and it snores. Try to talk to the person who is snoring in the small cell, but no response. Look at the torture device in the middle of the room. Check out the red phone booth. To the left of the door hangs a burning torch in a torch holder. Click on the torch with your wrench, but nothing happens. There is also a burning torch on the back wall. Click with your wrench on that torch and .....Ivo  also pulls this torch down and says something is happening ......

Click with your magnifying glass on the phone booth again........

 Ivo now opens the door of the phone booth and she sees texts in the cell, but those texts mean nothing to her.

Well ...... Ivo is stuck .... Critter will have to find a way to get Ivo out of the torture chamber, so switch to:

Critter:

Crawl out under the door again. The Troll is back at his post in the niche. You have already taken the rubber chicken before, if not, take that rubber chicken from the wall now. Continue to the right and then, at the doghouse, go up the stairs to the roof again. Upstairs, Criiter ends up with the robot guard again. To the left of the guard is a red velvet cushion. Look at that red cushion and then take it.

If you haven't done so before, look at the big red vase. You will then get the wrench on the red vase.  if necessary, Critter can now crawl into the big vase to hide himself. butdon't do that yet. To the left of the large red vase is a box with a crown on it and that wooden barrel with drawings in it. If you click on the box with the wrench, you will find out that the box is locked. Click a few times with your magnifying glass on the wooden barrel again. Keep doing this until Critter takes out a drawing that he apparently likes and puts it in inventory ... it is a drawing of a roast chicken on a plate. When Critter has taken this drawing from the barrel, go back down.

Back downstairs, Critter is standing in front of the dog house again. Walk back to the left and then, past the Troll, continue to the left. Critter is then standing at an extension house and in front of a thick pipe. In the extension house you see a round opening. Past the extension house it goes to the city. Look at the pipe and the opening in the annexe house. Through the opening in the annexe house, Critter can talk to Ivo in the torture chamber. Ivo says that the house is the entrance to a light shaft . Earlier you dropped a cannonball from the roof. That cannonball bounced here via the pipe on the protruding plank and was catapulted back into the air by that plank.  Also take a look at the protruding plank, the "spring board"....

Then click on the pipe with your wrench andCritter pushes the pipe over and the pipe is then located with 1 end in front of the opening in the extension house. Now click 2 times with the wrench on the pipe and Critter gives the pipe 2 pushes so that the pipe then sticks into the opening with the left end. Now take the red cushion from inventory and place the cushion on the end of the "springboard".

Walk back to the doghouse and then up the stairs to the roof.

Back on the roof, walk to the left again, to the cannonballs. Click again with the wrench on the cannonballs and ......

.... well .... see what happens ....... the cannonball rolls off the roof again but now lands on the red cushion and now stays on it. So go back down and walk on to the red cushion. Click the wrench on the cushion to roll the cannonball to the pipe and via the pipe the cannonball ends up with Ivo in the torture chamber. If the cannonball does not immediately roll into the pipe, click it again.

Walk back to the right, to the Troll and dive back into the torture chamber.

Back in the torture chamber give the rubber chicken, the burning torch and the drawing to Ivo. Then switch to:

Ivo:

Walk to the door. There is a barred window in the door ....

 take the drawing from Ivo's inventory and place the drawing in front of the door window ....

....... the Troll can no longer see what is happening in the dungeon. Walk to the large torture device and place the rubber chicken on it .....

Ivo ties the rubber chicken to the right side of the torture device. The rubber chicken is now a catapult. Now pick up the cannonball.

Immediately take the cannonball from inventory and click it on the chicken catapult and .....

..... Ivo is then ready to fire the cannonball but she needs a target ...... the Troll .....

Critter:

Switch back to Critter. Crawl out of the torture chamber under the door and Critter is back with the Troll.  Now click on the troll with the wrench to bully him, and  the troll follows Critter to the door of the torture chamber and.......well... Ivo knocks out the troll and lock it up in the cage. Youare still Critter, so switch to Ivo. As Ivo, now click with the wrench on the small cell with the padlock. MacGuffin is locked in the small cell cell and a conversation follows in which Ivo informs MacGuffin of all developments. Then continue talking through all conversation options.....

MacGuffin tells, among other things, that the padlock of his cell is a magical lock and that it can only be opened with Mortroga's magic wand. 

MacGuffin doesn't know what the red phone box is for either.

Free MacGuffin and escape from the castle

Critter:  

Mortroga's magic wand is therefore needed to free MacGuffin from the cell.

Switch back to Critter. As Critter, leave the torture chamber and go to the roof and then crawl into the big red vase.

If you have Critter in the vase, switch back to:

Ivo:

 Leave the torture chamber. Look at the blacksmith's hammer, in the troll's guardhouse, and then take the hammer.

Loop door naar het hondenhok, onderaan de rechter trappen en blijf daar dan staan. Boven de trap hangt een enorm rood doek aan de gevel.....
...bekijk dat rode doek met je loepje. Pak dan de brandende toorts uit inventory en steek er het rode doek mee in de fik......

Continue to the dog house, at the bottom of the right stairs and then stay there. Above the stairs hangs a huge red cloth on the facade .....

Look at that red cloth with your magnifying glass. Then take the burning torch from inventory and set the red cloth on fire with it ......

........the robot guard, on top of the roof, sees the fire and goes down to look

This gives Critter a little more freedom of movement and he also immediately climbs out of the vase. You are now automatically:

Critter: 

Walk to the parchment scroll table and now quickly grab a scroll of parchment and then quickly crawl back into the red vase and .......

.....the guard returns and resumes his position next to the throne. Click on the vase to make Critter jump out of the vase again and then go back down the stairs. In the meantime, Ivo has walked back to the torture chamber, so do the same and give the parchment scroll to Ivo. Switch to Ivo again:

 Ivo: 

In inventory right click on the parchment scroll. On the scroll is a Freezing spell. 

Take the scroll from inventory and click it on MacGuffin's cell, but unfortunately Wood elves cannot do magic. 

So give the spell scroll back to Critter and then switch to: 

Critter:

 As Critter, click again with the spell scroll on MacGuffin's cell. Critter does have magical genes and he freezes the bars of the cell. Switch to:

Ivo:

Use the blacksmith's hammer on the now frozen bars of MacGuffin's cell and ..... Ivo knocks the frozen bars out of the window and .....

MacGuffin shows Ivo his "universal lockpick", it's .a wire with which he says he can open all locks. Then MacGuffin crawls out of the cell. As Ivo, go talk to MacGuffin and ask "Could you decode the writing in the box?". MacGuffin goes into the phone booth to read the characters and comes to the conclusion that the phone booth is a box that can connect people over great distances. When MacGuffin has come out of the phone booth, ask him the other questions, but especially ask for his "lock pick" via "Your universal lock pick.....I need it". Exit the torture chamber and go to the roof. Click with MacGuffin's wire (Universal lock pick) on the chest with the crown on it and Ivo opens the chest with the lockpick. There are gold coins in the chest, so grab some gold coins.

Go back to the torture chamber and give the gold coins to MacGuffin. As you already know, there are two burning torches hanging in the torture chamber. The torch on the back wall opens the phone booth. Pull the torch hanging to the left of the door again and Ivo then asks MacGuffin if he wants to pull the other torch and that happens and the blue star in the back wall opens. In the now opened compartnent is a book.

Look at that book and Ivo takes the book,  it is the Phonebook. Give the Phonebook to MacGuffin, and........

MacGuffin flips through the phone book and finds the number of another payphone, number 2...and.......

Ivo, Critter and MacGuffin go to the phone booth and connect to Phone Booth 2 and......

..... they drop down and end up outside the city and they immediately decide to head for the Earth Magician.
