Part 2

Chapter 4: The Thief of Baghdad

Click forward and ...... Your screen is then black with a light stripe in the shape of a half moon at the top.

Aim your cursor at the bright crescent and click forward and you'll end up in Baghdad:

Cut scene in which Princess Seherezade, this is our archaeologist, is going to tell the story of the Thief of Baghdad to the bored Caliph.

So you are now the Thief of Baghdad and you are standing in a large stone Pot somewhere in the garden of a rich merchant's house. Turn around until you can see the garden from your pot. A cat is meowing right in front of your pot. You want to break into the Merchant's house, but there are guards in the garden. That's why you don't like that cat's howling very much. You have to get rid of that cat first. Turn slightly to the right and you will see the large black lid of another jar. Click on this jar lid.

You slide the jar open and the cat jumps in the jar and takes out a fish and the animal then runs away.

Turn left again and you look back into the garden. Click forward to get out of the pot. Then turn to the right.

You see a ladder against the wall in the distance.

Go forward 1 step towards that ladder and then stand still.

Don't walk further to the ladder now because then you will experience a GAMES OVER scene and you can start over again.

Turn counterclockwise to the planter and then look at the ground. There is a Stone on the ground here.

Pick up this stone and hold on to it. Turn further to the left until you see a door with a Palm tree in front of it.

Save your game because here you can get another GAME OVER here. You hold the stone ..... Aim your cursor with the stone at that palm tree and then click and ..... You throw the stone at against that palm tree ...... Now act very quickly ...... turn back to the right so that you see the ladder again. Then click forward to get to the ladder. Quickly find the Click Point on this ladder and then pick up the ladder.

You then hold the ladder .... Turn to the right and then click 1x forward to go back to where you just came from

Then turn quickly to the left and look up. A balcony. Take the Ladder from your Inventory and click it against this balcony.

Aim up and climb up the ladder to the balcony. On top of the balcony you will see a door right in front of you. Go forward towards this door.

Cut scene: Before you can go in through the door, that damned cat throws a spanner in the works ..... The cat rubs against your legs and .....

You give it a kick and the cat lands on a large vase that breaks with a huge noise. The guard is coming.

Quickly, click on the door again and ....... you end up in the room of the rich merchant's daughter ......

The daughter finds it exciting and she hides you under her bed. The guard comes to sniff around but does not find you and leaves again. The beautiful daughter finds all this extremely exciting, but she wants a reward. She wants a Black Rose from you.  Black Roses are an extremely rare commodity and almost nowhere to be found, but luckily you are a clever thief and you remember a place where you might be able to get your hands on a Black Rose. So you run across the rooftops of nightly Baghdad and eventually jump over a wall into the Enchanted Garden. You regain control of the game.

The Enchanted Garden

So our thief has arrived in the Enchanted Garden. It is a large garden with various buildings, gazebos, a fountain and a swimming pool. 

You can go in several directions such as straight ahead, left and right. However, first turn right and then Forward to go up the stairs

then go forward again to get to the back of the "alley". 

Here you will find, a large stick, in the corner against the wall, Take the Stick and put it in your inventory.

Then turn around and click back to get to the top of the stairs. Click forward again to go down the stairs again and you are back where you started. Turn slightly to the right and then aim your arrow between the Gazebo, left, and the Central Pagode and then click forward. Then turn left and you are right in front of the entrance of the gazebo.

This is the Red Gazebo and in the entrance is the Red Dancer, who moves her prominent breasts back and forth under your nose rather defiantly. Well, you are a hot-blooded thief so you want to touch the dancer….eh….take a closer look!. So click ahead and ...... Unfortunately, from the pot, on the right, her "impresario" suddenly jumps out and his scimitar is actually quite a convincing argument to leave the dancer alone

Turn to the right and click forward, then turn to the left and click forward again to move forward along the wall with the "arches" to the large garden wall. You run into a brazier. Turn to the right and you will see a water basin in front of you with a colonnade to the left and right of it.

Now click 3x forward and you are then halfway through this basin, on the left tile path of this basin. Turn to the left and look up.

There's a bunch of bananas on the tree. Take your Stick from your inventory, click it on the bunch of bananas.

1 banana falls down.

Put the stick back away, turn to the basin and look down at the tiled path in front of your feet, then pick up the Banana.

Then look straight ahead to the other side of the Bassin. There is a Monkey juggling.

Turn to the left and click forward and you are at the top of the stairs. Turn to the right and click 1x forward again .....

.... turn to the right again and click 1x forward again and you are on the other side of the Basin.

Turn to the right and you will now see the Monkey. Wait for the monkey weather to start juggling. The monkey juggles with 3 different colored clubs. Take the Banana from your inventory and give it to the Monkey. The monkey takes the banana in a cutscene and throws the clubs on the ground. So pick up all three Clubs

Then turn all the way around and go forward up the stairs again.

Then turn right and go forward 3x again and you will end up in a kind of "Cave" in the left back corner of the garden.

Nice animal, isn't it?..... To the left of the monster you see a hole in the "rock" and in this hole is a small box. Try to grab the box by clicking on it ...... Unfortunately, you will first have to figure out how to get rid of the monster. Turn further to the left and you will see a White Ball on the floor. Take the white Ball and put it in your inventory.

You can only continue here when that monster stops bothering you, so turn around and click forward over the garden path.

Then turn left and you will see a small pavilion

Click forward and you will be in the pavilion. Turn right and you will be standing in front of the copper fountain in this pavilion

Take your White Ball from inventory and now place it in the Round Hole of this Fountain .....

Cutscene: The white ball turns into a white unicorn

and then your screen turns into a maze that the unicorn has to go through, from bottom right to top left

Unicorn Maze

The Unicorn is at the bottom right of your screen and you have to guide the noble animal safely through the maze to the exit at the top left. 

Just click on the Unicorn and see what happens.

The Unicorn starts to run but is chased by the Predator. The Unicorn does not know the way and runs into a dead end where he is then eaten by the Predator. You have to start over. What you have to do now is to mark out the correct route for the Unicorn with those 4 colored discs that you see at the bottom of your screen. You have to place these 4 discs in certain places in the Maze, but that also has to be done in the correct color order. So you have a blue disc, a yellow disc, a purple disc and a green disc. So place the 4 discs in the maze on the correct 4 places and then click on the Unicorn again. 

This screenshot shows you the 4 correct places to place the discs.

If you did it right, the Unicorn will now run through the maze again and reach the exit, top left, unscathed.

After this, pick up the Horn of the Unicorn from the Fountain and place it in your inventory.

Then turn to the right and click forward to get back to the Garden Wall.

Turn to the right and in front of you you will see the "cave" of the monster again. Stand still and turn slightly to the right.

You see a lamp next to the garden path and you see a hole in the lamp. Take the Unicorn's Horn from your inventory and place it in this hole of the lamp.

You hear the sound of an iron gate and then a loud bang. Now go back to the Monster and look ...... Monster is now safely locked up in an iron cage. So, don't delay and take the box from the hole in the rock. It is a jewelry box and it contains 3 colored Diamonds: a red Ruby; a blue sapphire and a green emerald. Take all three gems from the box.

The 3 gems disappear in your inventory and the box goes back into the hole. Hmmmm.....3 gems, each of a different color.....aren't diamonds "women's best friend"????. Is there a Woman in the Hall? Yes, the dancer, but would there also be 3 Dancers? Turn around and click forward back across the garden path, turn left and click forward to get back to the Unicorn pavilion. In the back of the garden you can see another dancer's gazebo. Click forward, then turn left and click forward to the wall,.........

........ turn right and then 2x forward. You are at the pond

Turn right and click 2x forward and you are in front of a gate in the Central Pagoda. Turn slightly to the left and click forward again.

Turn slightly left again and click 2x forward towards the wide staircase on the other side. You will arrive under these stairs.

Turn left and you will see the Garden Path. Click forward, turn left and you are in front of Dancer 2.

This is the blue gazebo, so this is the Blue Dancer.

Click forward and her guard pops out. Tricky guy ..... has to get out of the way ...... Well you have 3 clubs in your inventory. 

This is the blue dancer so take the blue club from your inventory. The club then "sticks" to your arrow cursor, so click forward and .....

..... the guard is not pleased with this, is shocked and picks up his things and smears him.

Click forward again and you're in. Click on the dancer .......

she wants to serve you, but everything has its price, including her "services".

She wants her jewel, so take the blue sapphire from your inventory, because this is the "blue" dancer after all, and give it to her

As a thank you, you will receive a Key from her.

Turn around and click  to get out of the gazebo. In front of you, on the left, you will see the next dancer's house, but you have to go there via a detour. Turn right and click forward over the garden path. Then turn left, forward up the wide staircase and you will reach the top of the tiled terrace.

Turn left and click forward to the back of the terrace. Turn slightly left and click forward to go down the stairs here.

Then turn left and you are standing in front of the Green Dancer. Click forward and her guard will pop out.

Take the Green Club from your inventory and..........

Then click ahead and you're in. Give the green Emerald to the green dancer and she will give you the map of the spiral staircase in the Wizard's Tower.

Turn around and go outside, turn right, forward and you are back on top of the terrace.

Go forward to the wide staircase but don't go down. Turn slightly to the left and move forward to the rock wall.

You are back where you started in this enchanted garden.

Turn right and you will see the Red Dancer gazebo again. Click forward, turn left, square  the guard away with the red club

Enter and give the red Ruby to the red dancer. You will also receive a Key from her as a thank you. Turn around and go outside. Well, this was all very nice and all, of course, but you still don't have Black Rose. You have 2 Keys, a brown and a black key and a Map. Turn right, forward, turn left and forward and you are back on the tiled terrace.

Turn left, forward to descend the wide stairs and then click 2x forward and you are back in the Central Pagoda.

Above this is the Wizard's Tower. Click forward to the gate. You are standing in front of the gate. Gate is closed.

 Open your inventory and take the brown Key (if it isn't, then it's the other key). The Key "sticks" to your arrow again. Click forward and..........

Cutscene: The Caliph has also noticed that Black Rose has not yet been "earned". Sheherazade urges him to be patient.....

After this you are on the other side of the fence at the foot of the spiral staircase that goes up to the wizard's tower.

There's an annoying "jump-in-the-field" Gnome standing in your way that also gives you kisses every time.

The Spiral Staircase Puzzle

It's getting a bit difficult now. Especially to explain it to you well: The Gnome is challenging you to a competition who is the first to the top. Before you do anything, open your inventory and select the Staircase Map. This will appear large on your screen. On the map you see the spiral staircase steps  and you see yourself and also the Gnome standing on the stairs.

Some steps have a star symbol and some steps have a circle with a snake. Well, the Star steps let you shoot up so you can skip steps, but the Circle snake steps let you fall down again. So you should not step on this circle of snake steps. The following is really hard to explain, but I'll do my best. Put the map back in inventory.

You are going to play a game and the Gnome is your opponent ...... Whoever gets to the top of the spiral staircase first is the winner. I can't give you a step by step solution to the puzzle, I can only explain how to do it as best I can and there is no guarantee that you will win this mini-game anytime soon.....in fact......you may never win it if you're realy unlucky

Click on the Gnome and see what happens....

The Gnome jumps onto a Step of the stairs and this step has a Star and the Gnome shoots up and lands higher on the stairs.

After this there is suddenly a TV in your screen. On this TV you see an Island with a palm tree and a Monkey on it. To the left you see 5 skulls that form a dam in the water. The monkey climbs up the palm tree and grabs a coconut above it and climbs back down with it. At the bottom right of the TV you see a Red Button. If you click the Red Button while the Monkey climbs back down with the coconut, the Monkey will throw the coconut away and it will land on 1 of the skulls and then continue bouncing. It matters where the monkey is in the trunk with the coconut the moment you press the red button on which skull the coconut lands and then bounces further. This determines the number of steps that you, or the Gnome, can then continue up the spiral staircase.

If the monkey is still at the very top, the coconut will land on the very back head and so you only go 1 step further up, if the monkey is almost all the way down then the coconut will land on the front head and then bounce to the left via all the other heads and so you go 6 steps further up. 5, 4, 3, and 2 steps are therefore in between on the trunk. The number of heads that touch the coconut determines the number of steps that you or the Gnome can go up. Every time you have pressed the red button while the monkey comes down again, the coconut will bounce off through a number of heads. Then the TV disappears and you see how you go up the same number of steps. If you land on a SAFE step, you can open the map again to determine how far it is to the next safe step, or next star step or next circle snake step.

Click the map away again and click on the step of the stairs that you can click on to get the TV back on your screen. Then try to click on the red button at exactly the right time to make the right number of moves. If the Gnome gets to the top before you do, you have to do it all over again, until you get to the top first.

 I really can't help you further with this. It just takes some practice and a little understanding of this game, but in the end it turns out not to be that difficult. You also have to be a bit lucky that you always manage to end up on Star steps, because then you go up faster. I got through it after fifteen minutes and finally ended up safely at the top.

So you will eventually be the winner at the top of the tower spiral staircase. You are standing in front of a door but you cannot enter through it.

Open your inventory and take out the Black Key. It now "sticks" to your Arrow Cursor. Click forward to the door and ......

cut scene

The door bursts open with a bang and a beautiful magic carpet comes out. Our Thief jumps on it and flies off to the Wizard's Tower in the clouds.

Here our thief, floating on the carpet, is eavesdropping outside the tower window. He overhears the Wizard who has called the Genie out of the Bottle.

The Genie also conjures up the Crystal Skull for the wizard, and the wizard "disappears" in the skull for a moment. 

He reappears. Apparently he was unsuccessful. Our thief falls down carpet and all and you regain control of the game.

Turn right and click forward to go through the door, then click forward again to the stairs.  Hola ..... the stairs are guarded by 6 Cobras.

Take the Stick from your inventory and click forward to the Cobras, but it can be that you do not need the stick to get passed these cobra's

 After the cut scen  you are in a round room, you are in another dimension for a while. You hear Sheherazade and the Caliph. 

Immediately in front of you you see a wall panel with the image of a snake. On  the snake you see a star constellation ..... draw it over

As said, you are in a round room. Turn to the right, or left, and you will see 4 windows

You can now see a certain Star Constellation through every window....

.....draw these 4 constellations accurately  and always connect the stars with lines on each drawing.

Then look at the floor at your feet. The floor is one big star map.

Well, the intention is clear. On this floor map you have to draw the 4 Star constellation from the 4 windows and the Serpent constellation by clicking on the stars. You have to do that 1 by 1 and start at the bottom left. If you click on a star, it will light up and if you got a constellation completely right, the connecting lines will also light up. You must first get these 5 Constellations right. After that all stars go out again and 1 bigger star stays lit. This is then the starting star for a 6th constellation that you also have to do. If you have also done the 6th star constellation correctly, you will be teleported away again and you will be back at the bottom of the stairs where the Cobras have now disappeared so that you can go up.

It's not all that complicated. It's just a bit annoying that you can't see the floor in one total view. You have to keep turning your mouse back and forth. You have to look closely at the floor and always compare it with the 5 drawings you made. I also can't give a total picture of this floor, that would be way too big a screenshot, so I just chopped this into 4 pieces and below are the screenshots with the correct solution.

I couldn't find the 6th star constellation anywhere, I finally found the solution for this after a few tries

If you also have the 6th star constellation correct, you will end up back at the bottom of the stairs

Click forward to go up the stairs now. You enter the richly furnished Wizard Room.

Turn immediately to the left and you will see a large cupboard. 

This cabinet has a large top compartment on which you see 16 compartments with triangles.

At the bottom is a separate compartment with 4 drawers. The intention is to be able to open the 4 bottom drawers and for that you have to click on 4 of the 16 triangles in the upper part, and that in a certain order. So number these 16 triangles, from Top Left to Bottom Right, 1 to 16 and then click on the following triangles: 10, 2, 11, 3. (at least in my game it was) ...... You will hear a click. Now open the 4 bottom drawers

In each of these 4 drawers is a piece of rolled parchment. Take all 4 pieces of parchment from the drawers and put them in your inventory. As soon as you have picked up the 4th piece, the cupboard turns around and you see the backside in front of you. In this backside you now see 16 red drawers in 4 rows of 4 drawers each. Here too you now have to open a certain number of drawers in the correct order. But which?

Number these 16 drawers again from 1 to 16. Now open your inventory and take a closer look at the 4 pieces of parchment. You will see that: 1 piece has 1 red Square; 1 piece has 2 red Squares; 1 piece has 3 red Squares; 1 Piece has 4 red Squares. These red Squares are the red Drawers in the cupboard and they tell you that you have to open 4 of these drawers, but they also tell you which drawers they are and in what order you must open them.

We have our  Western numbers from the Arabic numbers and we always start counting at 1, so the piece of parchment with only 1 square is the first drawer you have to open. This square is therefore  Drawer 15. The piece with 2 squares represents the drawers 15 and 3, the piece with 3 squares represents the drawers: 15, 3, 8 and the piece with 4 squares represents the drawers: 15, 3, 8, 1. So click on the Drawers: 15, 3, 8, 1. The top of the cabinet now opens and you see a Green Bottle with a piece of Cloth next to it .

Pick up this piece of Cloth and click it on the Green Bottle.

cut scene: The Ghost appears and you finally get the coveted Black Rose

....... The Crystal Skull also appears in the cupboard again.

Crystal Skull part 2 

Click the Black Rose to your Inventory and save your game here. Then click on the Crystal Skull.

You will end up in the "Brain Maze" again and here you have to find the Dolphin again.

To do this, go over the first path on the left, then turn to the right and click on the Dolphin.

The dolphin gives you another hint, so listen carefully:

After that, you need to find the exit to the wizard's room.

Across the path immediately to the left of the Dolphin and then the 2nd path on the left and then you see a bubble with the wizard's room in it.

Click on this bubble and you will return to the wizard's room. Turn slightly to the left and click 1*Forward to leave the tower through the door.

cut scene: The thief flies off on the carpet to deliver the black rose to the merchant's daughter

Sheherazade now tells the Caliph the end of this story about the Thief of Baghdad

After this you are back in your own time and in the Crystal Skull Room. Turn around here so that you are in front of the wall that now shows a large image of the Wizard's Tower. Then open your inventory and select the Remote Control, the Circle with the Triangles. This will appear on your screen. Click on the right triangle and the snow landscape will now appear in the wall. Click the triangle and save your game here........

........then click forward to get into the snow. You end up in:
