Chapter 3: The Hidden Legacy:

Nightmare. Black screen. We hear Samuel and we end up in:

Wales:

Gordon family estate:

Samuel stands at the gate of the family's country home in Wales. The gate is locked. To the right of the gate is the doorbell. Click on the doorbell.

The doorbell doesn't work. Wait a moment until Samuel has finished talking and you have the arrow cursor back. Then click on the doorbell again. Samuel tries the doorbell again but it really doesn't work. Right clickon the doorbell. Samuel says that the wires of the doorbell don't connect to each other. Go to your inventory and make sure the blade is sticking out of the tower chess piece. Then click with the black tower on the doorbell.

Samuel tries to open the doorbell but the blade is too thick. There stand a statue in front of the gate on both the left and right side. Now place your cursor on the feet of the left statue. Your arrow will then turn red. It is a broken statue. Click on the feet of this statue. Samuel says that the left leg has broken off. Click on the feet of the statue again. There is a nail sticking out. Click on the nail again and Samuel pulls out the nail. Take the nail from your inventory and then click it on the doorbell.

Samuel puts the nail in the doorbell and the bell rings now. After a few moments, the gate is opened by Louis, the caretaker. Samuel introduces himself and says he's coming to see Eleanor. However, Louis wants to see proof that Samuel is really Samuel Gordon. Take the mourning card from William from your inventory and click it on Louis.

if you wait too long to give the mourning card, Louis will lose his patience and slam the gate again and disappear. Then simply ring the doorbell again.

Louis lets you in and takes you to :

Sitting room: Eleanor:

You are inside the great room. After the greeting and the first conversations between Eleanor and Samuel, your conversation topics will appear.

Some topics lead to new topics. Talk to Eleanor until there is nothing left to talk about.

The most important thing you get from Eleanor is her info on William. William was last here on the estate 2 years ago and showed great interest in the family tomb. You also experience that Richard, Eleanor's husband, is not in the house, but that he can probably be found in his laboratory, in the "old abandoned house". You will also know that Eleanor has the "East Room" made ready as your guest room. Eleanor also asks if Samuel would instruct Louis to fix the doorbell.

After this long conversation, Eleanor starts to play a tune on the piano. Explore the space and don't skip a click spot.

To the left of the fireplace hangs a mirror above a cupboard. Click on the mirror. There is a box on the cupboard in front of the mirror. It is a "Wooden Jewelery Box". Click here. The lid is in the shape of a chessboard with only 9 squares. On top of the fireplace you see the "Family coat of arms". Click here. Samuel says that this coat of arms belongs to the "Wales" branch of the Gordons. A painting hangs on the wall to the right of the fireplace. Click here. It is a portrait of Mathias Gordon, Eleanor's father and a famous pianist in his day. Flags hang on the white wall above the 3 gates. Click on the flags. Samuel does not recognize the weapons on these flags. If you have clicked on everything you could click on then you leave the room via the exit in the middle right and you are outside in the:

Gardens:

You are behind the main house of the estate. On the far right is a window. It is the window in the low extension. Click on that window. Samuel walks over and tries to peek in through the window. However, the window is too dirty and Samuel cannot see through it. At the bottom right of your screen is another pond. This is the Fountain pond. Click in the pond of the  fountain. Unlike the Fountain of Samuel's Castle, this fountain is well maintained and cleaned regularly. Note that you can keep clicking on the fountain. Now go, via the exit at the bottom left, to the path fork

Louis, the caretaker, is busy watering a tree. Go talk to Louis about the doorbell. Very reluctantly, Louis says that he will repair the bell as soon as possible. You can  click on the red tree, on the left. Bottom right is the exit to the "Main Entrance". Bottom left is the exit to the old garden. Go, bottom left, to the Old Garden. Louis then calls you back and says that visitors are not allowed to enter the old garden. Samuel says he got permission from Eleanor. So go to the:

Old Garden:

You are standing in front of a building with a round tower on the right side. There are two windows in the tower. Click on the left window. Note that you can keep clicking on this window. On the right you see a green gardenhose attached to a faucet. Click on the faucet. Samuel picks up a Sturdy Steel Cable, with which the garden hose is connected to the tap. Now click with your arrow at the bottom left of your screen. Samuel continues to the left and your screen scrolls along. You will then see the Exit to the "Abandoned House".

So click in the gate and you will arrive at the:

Abandoned house:

Richard must be somewhere in this house. Above the door you read "D J.B. Fraser". Click here. Click on the door. Of course locked. Click on the "Leaking roof". To the left of the door, the "Wooden stairs" go up to the "Boarded up window". Click on the stairs and also on that window. Do that 2 times. The stairs are broken and Samuel doesn't think to go up the stairs. There is a wooden platform under the stairs. At the bottom left is the exit to "de Kapel" but you are not going there yet.

Right click on the front door again to hear Samuel say that the key is on the inside of the lock. Take William's mourning card again from your inventory and click it on the door. Samuel slides the mourning card under the door. Then take the Sturdy Steel Cable from your inventory and click it on the door as well. With the cable, Samuel picks the key out of the lock and it falls on the mourning card. Samuel automatically pulls the mourning card from under the door and puts the key in his pocket. So take the key from your inventory and click it on the door.

Samuel enters the house and stand in the living room and it's a mess in here. Let's look at everything and let's start with the Fireplace.

Click 2 times in the fireplace. A black cat is sleeping on the ledge above the fireplace, but don't click the cat yet. On the right side of the fireplace are the Stove pokers. You  also see a low wall to the right of the fireplace. In that wall is a small Door. Left click and then right click that small door to know that it istightly shut and that it has a hexagonal lock. Note that you can keep clicking on this door. There are some wood blocks on the floor in front of the stove pokers but Samuel says he cannot use them. Note that you can keep clicking on those wood blocks. A "rope" hangs down to the left of the fireplace. Click 2 times on this rope.

On the round table stand a thea kettle but Samuel has no need to make tea. Notice again that you can keep clicking on the kettle. To the right of the tround able are some papers on the floor. It is an "Old newspaper" but Samuel refuses to pick it up. Note again that you can keep clicking on it. On the right wall is a small table with a drawer in it. Click on the small table

Samuel automatically opens the drawer and you enter the close-up.

Click in the drawer. However, Samuel does not need anything from the drawer. Note again that you can keep clicking in the drawer. On the table stand an ashtray. Click on the ashtray. Someone recently burned something in the ashtray because there is ashes in it and it is not ashes from cigarettes or cigars. Click on the lamp. The lamp is broken so not usable. Click on the newspaper that lies on the left of the table. There are two ads circled in red. Behind the newspaper you see a little drawer. Open that drawer drawer and take the fountain pen that's inside it.

Close the close-up and open your inventory. Right click on the fountain pen. Samuel tells you that the pen contains a full ink cartridge with blue ink. At the far left stand an old stove that you can also click on. All right, now go click on the black Cat lying on the ledge of the fireplace and see what happens........

Samuel gives the cat a pat and the cat jumps up startled. You see something fall to the ground.

The cat runs to the left and then disappears into the large closet.

Samuel walks to the large closet and opens it. However, it is too dark in the closet to see anything.

On the inside of the closet door are 2 posted up clippings Click on those clipping so that Samuel read them out aloud.

They are articles about Richard Gordon and Samuel reads them aloud

NB: It is very important that Samuel read these Clippings. If you forget to do this, you will get stuck later in this chapter because you can't ask Richard for "Blood" then.

When the cat jumped off the ledge you saw something fall to the floor. This object is now in front of the wood block on the floor, it's a key...Take that Key

In your inventory, right-click on this key. It is an "English Key" with which hexagonal screws can be tightened. Then take this key from your inventory and click it on the small door to the right of the fireplace. The door now opens and you end up in the close-up. It's a small oven.

On the left is a candle and on the right is a lighter. Take the lighter and take the candle. The lighter has no wick so it won't work but you can fix it with the candle. Close close up. In your inventory, right-click on the candle and on the lighter. The lighter has no wick but the candle does. Make sure the little knife sticks out of the Tower chess piece and then click with the tower piece on the Candle tocut the wick from the candle. Pick up the wick and click it on the lighter and the lighter will now work.

Walk to the left to the large closet. Take the lighter from your inventory and click it on the closet.

Samuel tells you that the back wall of the clocet can be pushed away. You now get an Exit in the closet It is the Exit to the "Secret Corridor".

Click this exit and Samuel enters the cupboard and then ends up in the:

Laboratory:

That guy with the white hair is Richard Gordon. He is shocked by the appearance of Samuel in his laboratory and he drops a bottle from his hands. Richard wants to know how Samuel got in here and your 2 Masks appear on screen. Click on the "Positive" answer mask. A conversation follows. Richard is angry and he says that he dropped his last bottle of some solvent in shock. This solvent is scarce and is called ex-52 Boron. He wants Samuel to buy a new bottle of this stuff and says it is probably available at the drugstore in Leechdale. He also says that the stuff is deep blue in color.

First examine everything again and click again on everything you can click. To the right of the entrance is a small table. On this table are little bottles. Click on these little bottles. Samuel takes 1 bottle with him. You can then click on the drawing above this table, the books in the bookcase. On the Strange Machine standing on the big round table. On the Hanging Structure that hangs above the strange machine and on the "Freezer" that is to the right of Richard. Note that you can keep clicking on this freezer.

You have to pick up 1 more object and that they are the "Shards" lying on the floor to the left of Richard. It's the shards of the bottle that Richard dropped. Click on the Shards and Samuel picks up 1 large shard and this shard has a label on it. Enter your inventory and right click on the shard. There is a label on it and it says that it is that ex-52 solvent. Leave the laboratory through the exit in the middle right and you will end up back in the room of the abandoned house.

Fabricate a Vial of Oxidant ex-52

We're going to collect some stuff now. Click on the Wood Blocks........Samuel picks them up now. Click on the Old Newspaper, that lies on the floor and Samuel will now also pick it up. Click on the tea kettle and it will now also disappear to your inventory. Now go out through the door, center right, and then center right again to the screen at the front of the tower house. Then walk to the right (do not click the exit) to the faucet, to which the garden hose was attached. Take the Tea kettle from your inventory and click it on the tap. Samuel fills the kettle with water from the tap. Then take the small empty bottle from your inventory and click it on the tap. Samuel also fills the bottle with water.

In your inventory, combine the fountain pen with the small bottle of water. The blue ink from the fountain pen colors the water in the bottle deep blue. The water now has the correct blue color. Now you have to put aa label on the bottle. Go back to the Abandoned House and re-enter it. Go to the stove on the left. Take the old newspaper from your inventory and click it on the stove. Take the wood blocks from your inventory and click them on the stove. Take the lighter from your inventory and also click on the stove. Samuel lights the stove. Take the tea kettle from your inventory and then click it on the stove.

Click on the kettle. Samuel tells you that you must wait for the water to boil in the kettle It is best to leave the Abandoned House and go all the way back to the big house. Enter the big house but don't talk to Eleanor, but go straight back to the Abandoned House. Go back inside and ....... steam should now come out of the kettle. If that is not the case yet, you can do this walk one more time.Back in the Abandoned House, steam comes out of the kettle. Take the shard from your inventory and now click it into the STEAM that comes out of the kettle.

Samuel loosens the label with the steam. Now you need glue to stick the label on your bottle.

Go outside and go back to the screen with the trees where Louis was watering the tree before. On this screen you go to the main gate via the bottom right.

Louis is here repairing the doorbell. His tool box is on the floor in front of Louis. Click on the toolbox. However, Samuel doesn't dare to unpack anything as long as Louis is busy here. So you have to get that Louis out of here. Talk to Louis about the doorbell first. Then go back to the house and go inside. Eleanor starts talking to Samuel by herself

Eleanor wants Louis to stop fixing the doorbell and immediately start mowing the grass behind the house. Whether Samuel would like to convey this message to Louis. So go back to the main gate and talk to Louis again. Use the lawn mowing topic. Louis doesn't feel like leaving the job he's doing right now. He says he will first finish the doorbell and then see if he still has time to mow the grass. Well ...... the staff of today ......Go back to Eleanor in the big house. This time the conversation won't start by itself, so click on Eleanor.

First ask Eleanor about the "Piano" and then about the "Tall Grass". However, do not use the "doorbell" now. Eleanor now gives a really specific assignment that you have to convey to Louis. So back to Louis at the Main Entrance. Talk to Louis again about mowing the lawn. Samuel tells him what Eleanor just said. However, Louis does not leave immediately. Go back to Eleanor but don't talk to her anymore. Immediately go back outside and see ...... Louis is now mowing the grass here. So go to the main gate and then click on the toolbox twice in a row

The first time Samuel takes Glue out the toolbox and the second time a Sturdy Steel Cable. In your inventory, click the Glue on the Label and then click the Label on the Bottle. And let's just hope Richard doesn't notice you're screwing things up. Go back to the Abandoned House, go inside and through the large closet to the Laboratory. Take the little bottle with an oxidizer from your inventory and click it on Richard.

Richard is grateful to you and your conversation topics appear. So talk to Richard about "William" and about the "Sacred Key".

Richard doesn't have much to tell you, but he does tell you that the Sacred Key is made of real silver.

Chapel/Tomb:

Unraveling the Secret of the Tomb:

Exit the lab through the "secret corridor" exit and then exit the Abandoned House as well. On the outer screen you now go, via the exit at the bottom left, to the Chapel.

You come to the great Tomb. Click on the gate of the tomb. Of course it is locked. There are still a few clickable places on this screen that you can click on. Find them and click on everything. There is a "Monolith" and in front of this monolith stand  a "Stone Flowerpot". Click on this Stone Flowerpot so Samuel notices that the soil in and around the flowerpot has a different color than the surrounding soil. Note that you can keep clicking on the flower pot. Go back to the Abandoned House, go b ack inside and back to Richard in the lab. Talk to Richard about the "Tomb". According to Richard there is only 1 key for the tomb and it is in the possession of Eleanor or Louis. Samuel hopes Louis has the key.

So go to Louis at the junction. Louis blue coat hangs on the right tree. Click on the jacket. but Samuel is not about to pick pocket Louis jacket while Louis is hereLouis walks his mower back and forth across the grass to the right. Take the Sturdy Steel Cable from your inventory and now click it on the grass, slightly to the right of the tree. Just search the screen for the click spot and then click the cable on the grass while Louis is walking away from Samuel.

Samuel throws the cable into the tall grass. Louis continues mowing imperturbably and, after a few moments the cable ends up in the mower and the mower gives it up. Louis then walks away to the Abandoned House. Wait until Louis has completely disappeared and then click on his jacket again.

Samuel takes the keys from the jacket. So go back, via the Abandoned House, to the:Chapel/Tomb

Take the Keys of Louis from your inventory and click them on the gate of the tomb. Samuel enters the tomb.

In the back are 3 statues in 3 niches.

Make sure that Samuel is not standing inconvenient in front of the statues, so that you can see all 3 statues properly.

Above each statue are "Inscriptions" and each statue holds a "Bowl" in its hands. Click on each of the 3 Inscriptions and on each of the 3 Bowls. You find out that: The left statue is "Veine". The middle statue is"Odire". The right statue is "Malite". That each of the 3 bowls is empty. Should something be sacrificed into the bowls ofthese 3 statues? On the right stand a Stone Tomb. That tomb has a lock. Click that tomb and also click on the lock of that tomb. Note that you can keep clicking the lock.

NB: it is important that you do not forget to click on this lock, if you forget this then Richard won't tell you about the 3 statues

Exit the tomb through the bottom center, and return to Richard in the laboratory of the Abandoned House.  Click on Richard and ask him about the "Signs". However, Richard is busy with work, but as soon as he has finished his work he will look up the meaning of the 3 names, Veine, Odire and Malite, for you.

Getting an answer from Richard:

Well, it's going to be a while before Richard gives you the answer. Just go for a walk and then come back to Richard. You won't get an answer from Richard after the first time, so go for a walk again. After walking back and forth a few times, Richard will say that he has the answer for you and will give it to you. I can't tell you how long it will be before you hear from Richard that he's looked up the answer, I had to walk around the grounds 3 times. It is important that  you clicked on the lock of that Stone Tomb in the chapel. If you forgot to do that, do it while you walk around. At some point, after walking back and forth a few times, Richard will give you the answer.

Richard tells that: Veine is an Irish God of War. Odire is the Druid Harvest Goddess. Malite is the Ancient God of Water. You will then get the "Blood" topic. Use this and Samuel asks Richard if he has some blood for him. Richard says there must be another blood sample in the "Freezer".

NB: You now only get the blood topic if you have previously read those clippings about Richard, which are pasted on the inside of the closed door.

If you haven't done that yet, go ahead and ask Richard for blood.

Click on the Freezer. Now Samuel opens the freezer and takes out a bottle of Blood

Leave the lab. You will return to the room of the Abandoned House. Click again on the kettle, which is still on the stove.

Samuel tells that the kettle has cooled down and he takes the kettle back with him.

Leave the house and go back, via the bottom left, to the:

Chapel/Tomb:

Don't go in yet, but click again on the Stone Flower Pot. Samuel now grabs a handful of soil out of the flower pot.

Now enter the chapel. According to Richard, "Veine" is a war god and that includes blood, "Odire" is the harvest god and that includes earth, and "Malite" is the water god and that includes water. So do the following: Take the blood from your inventory and click it on the Bowl of Veine. Samuel pours the blood into the bowl. Two lights come on. Take the soil from your inventory and click it on the Bowl of Odire. Two lights come on again. Take the kettle from your inventory and click it on the Bowl of Malite. Samuel pours the water into the bowl. Two lights come on again.

A small altar now rises from the floor. Click on the altar.

You enter the Close-up and must solve a....

Slider puzzle:

This is a simple slider puzzle. The top left is the empty box, and that box must ultimately remain empty. So there are 16 squares and 12 of them have a symbol. 4 of the boxes are blank. You have to make sure you get those 4 blank squares in the middle and get the rest of the 12 symbol squares in the right place. In the 3 corners, top right, bottom right and bottom left, it is already indicated which symbol you have to place there. If you have solved this puzzle correctly, a Key will appear in the middle.

Click on this Key to send it to your inventory. You will get a black screen for a moment and then Louis will appear.

Louis is pissed that you stole his keys and he demands his keys back and then locks the chapel again. Samuel mutters that he must somehow get back to the chapel, but that he should wait until nightfall. Go back to Richard in the lab. Talk to Richard about the "Locked Vault". After some hesitation, Richard promises to help you and tells you to come back here after dark. Leave the Abandon house and go all the way back to the big main house and click on the door there. Samuel retires to his room.

Night:

Samuel climbs out the window. Go through the bottom left to the fork in the path and then through the middle left to the Old Garden. You are then back on the screen with the round towerhouse and the tap. The two windows in the tower are illuminated. Click on the left tower window again. Then walk to the left until you have the gate to the "Abandoned House" in your screen. Don't go through the gate yet. Just before the gate are some stones on the path. Click on this "Grit" and Samuel picks up the stones.

Now go through the gate to the Abandoned House and click on the door. The door is locked. Go back to the tower house.

Take the stones from your inventory and click it on the left tower window. Samuel throws a stone at the window.

I don't know if this will work in one go. I had to try 3 times and it wasn't until the 3rd time that Samuel hit the window. So if you don't succeed the first time either, click the stones on the window again. However, you should keep stones left because you will need the stones again later. As soon as Samuel has thrown a stone against the window, he automatically walks back to the Abandoned House. Richard opens the door and takes Samuel into his lab. Your screen will now remain black for a while while you hear Richard and Samuel.

Richard wants Samuel to help him run the experiment. This happens and then there is an explosion and you get to see something again.

We're in the lab. Richard doesn't blame Samuel for his experiment failing and points out a Green Bottle containing "Acid" to Samuel.

On the table, from which you took a bottle earlier, there is now a green bottle with "Acid".

Grab the Acid bottle and now go back to the:

Chapel/Tomb:

Take the bottle of Acid from your inventory and click it on the gate of the chapel. Samuel burns the lock and goes inside by himself.

Take the Key, which you obtained through the slider puzzle, from your inventory and click this key on the lock of the stone tomb.

On  the left an other tomb will then slide forward.

Click with your "Exit" cursor behind this tomb and you enter a secret passage". You walk down a staircase and then stand in front of a closed gate.

In the middle of the gate is the round Lock. Click on that lock. The lock has a symbol and this symbol looks familiar to Samuel.

You need a key. Click behind Samuel to go back and then leave the chapel and go back to Richard in his lab. Talk to Richard about the Symbol on the gate. Richard tells that there is only 1 key and that it is stored in Eleanor's jewelry box. As it is now night, the door of the Big house will now be locked. Richard says you can use his house key to get back in. So Richard's key is on that little table. so grab the key.

Go all the way back to the big house and click with this key on the door and Samuel will enter the big room of the house again.

Do you remember where Eleanor's jewelry box is? On the cabinet with the mirror.

Click on the Wooden Jewelery Box and you will enter the:

Chess Knight piece Puzzle:

The lid of the box therefore has 9 compartments. The horses are on the 4 corner squares. Above you see the two Black Horses and below the White Horses. So you have to swap the horses. The White Horses must be on top and the Black Horses must be on the bottom. This must be done via the "Horse Jump" move from the noble chess game. Number the 9 boxes, from top left to bottom right as, 1 to 9

You pick up a white or black horse  and then click it on another place.

These are the moves you need to do

white from 7 to 6.    white from 9 to 2.  black from 1 to 8      black from 3 to 4

You hear a click and automatically exit the close-up. Samuel takes an "Amulet" from the box. In your inventory, right-click on this Amulet.

Leave the house and go back to the Chapel. Re-enter the Chapel and re-enter the Secret passage. You come back to the Gate with the Round Lock. Take the Amulet from your inventory and click it on the lock. Your screen goes black for a moment and then you see how the gate opens. Your screen will go black again and then Samuel will be standing in front of the now open gate. Go to the crypt

Crypt:

Save Game here.

In the middle is the "Monolith". On the front of the monolith you will see the "Engraving". At the bottom of your screen is the "abyss". On the left are "roots".

In the large niche is the "Tomb". On the round wall, between the tomb and the entrance, are 7 "Skulls". Do Not Click On The Grave yet.

Click on the Monolith. Samuel says there is an opening in it. Click on the "Engraving" of the monolith. Samuel reads: "Use a stranger's head or your head will be thrown off". Click on the "Skulls". There are 7 skulls. Click on each of the 7 skulls.  6 of the 7 skulls are stone skulls but 1 of the skulls has a crack...It's a Cracked Skull and it's human.....it's skull 5. Take your stones from your inventory and click them on this Cracked skull.

The skull falls to the floor and lies in front of the barred window. Click on this now "BrokenSkull". You enter a close-up of the barred window.

Close the close-up and exit the crypt and go back upstairs and exit the chapel. Go to the Abandoned House and enter. The pokers hang on the right side of the fireplace. Click on the pokers and now Samuel takes a  poker. Go back to the Crypt and click on the broken Skull again. You will return to the close-up of the barred window. Take the poker from your inventory and click it on the key behind the bars.

Samuel now grabs this key. Close close up.

Take the "Key with Skull" from your inventory and click it on the "Monolith". You hear a sound. Now click on the "Grave".

Samuel slides open the lid. Click on the grave again. The skeleton of Dergham Gordon lies in the grave and around the neck is a Key.

Click on this Key and you will get the "2nd Sacred Key". Close the close-up and this chapter is over and we go to:
