Chapter 4: The Stone Ship Age

The 2 Ships

You have landed on the aft deck of a ship and you look at the entrance of a tunnel that goes into the rock. You also see a stone staircase that goes to a 2nd ship. You are on the Left Ship. That other ship is the Right Ship. Turn left. You see a long plank path that goes to a small "island" with an "umbrella". I shall call that the "Umbrella " island".

Turn left again. You look through the open door of the aft cabin of the ship. Vaguely you see a door down there but you can not get there because the cabin is full of water. Turn counterclockwise again. You see the Lighthouse and the plank path that goes to it. Take note that the lighthouse has a pointy roof with a lamp on top, witch is out now

Turn counter clockwise again. You look back at the entrance of the tunnel and that stone staircase. Now go forward to the entrance of the tunnel. Then go into the tunnel and then try to go further through the tunnel. That is not possible because the tunnel is full of water and also because it is dark in the tunnel. Turn around and go back out the tunnel. Turn left. You stand in front of the stone stairs. Climb up and down again on the other side.

You are standing on the aft deck of the right ship. A wooden plank path goes up along the rock. Turn left.  Another tunnel. Enter this tunnel and you will notice that this tunnel is also underwater and dark. Go out again and turn left. Go to the wooden path and now follow it all the way up.

You are then on top of the rock and at a ..... Binoculars. Zoom in on the binoculars.

You look through the binoculars. At the top of the binoculars screen you see scale. This scale goes from 0 to 360. It is therefore 360 degrees. By clicking with your hand on the screen and then holding down your mouse and then dragging your mouse to the left or to the right, you can rotate the binoculars 360 degrees left or right. Practice this for a bit

You will have to do this later to see something specific through the binoculars. If you have enough of it, zoom out and turn around and follow the wooden path back down to the right ship. Go via the stone stairs  back to the left ship. It will be clear to you now that the front of both ships are buried deep into the rock and that these two tunnels are in fact the corridors to the two cabins of the ships. Now go take a look in the Lighthouse

Lighthouse

So go over the plank into the Lighthouse

You enter the lighthouse on the middle section and you see that it is full of water and it is also a bit dark in here

Ladder rungs are sticking in the back wall but you can't climb up to the lamp house because the ladder rungs are not sticking out. On the right side of the ladder rungs you see a key hole in the wall. On the right side of the plank that you are on is a kind of "well" and at that well a key hangs on a rope but that key doesn't fit in the keyhole at the ladder rungs. You need to get the water out of the lighthouse in order to go down to the bottom of the lighthouse. So go back to the left ship and then go over the plank to the "Umbrella Island"

On "Umbrella Island" stand the lever with witch you can activate 3 pumps to pump the water out of the 2 tunnels, the aft cabin of the left ship and from the lighthouse.

You can slide the lever to the left, the middle and the right through the slit.

Now go do this and see what will happen when you put the lever at bottom left, bottom middle or bottom right in the slit and then click the activate Button

When you put the lever at bottom left in the slit and then click the activate button the water will be pumped out of the aft cabin of the left ship but not from the 2 tunnels

You can now go down and open up the door of the aft cabin, but it's to dark down there in the cabin. You'll need light.

So go back to the "Umbrella island" and slide the lever to bottom middle in the slit and click the activate button to turn on the middle pump. Go look on the two ships to see what has changed. The water in the aft cabin is back but the water in the 2 tunnels is gone now. Also the water in the lighthouse is still there. But the tunnels are to dark to follow, so you have to turn on the lights in the tunnel. Go back to "Umbrella Island" and now slide the lever to bottom right in the slit and click the Activate button.

Go look in the Lighthouse and see.....the water is in the lighthouse is gone now and you can now go down via the spiral staircase, so do this now

While you go down you see that a large chest is hanging on a rope and that the rope, and the chest, is attached to a barrel that stand on the bottom. When you are all the way down go to the barrel. The barrel is full of water and because of that it won't go up to the surface when the water will be back. So click on the red valve of the barrel to let the water out. Wait until no more water comes out and then  click the red valve again to close it again, otherwise the barrel will fill with water again when you flood the lighthouse again.

Climb back up and go back to "umbrella island" and put the lever back at bottom middle in the slit and then click the activate button, to put the water back into the lighthouse.

Go back into the lighthouse and see  ...... the chest now floats next to the plank

Go to the chest and now click the Key that hangs on the rope and move the key to the chest.

While pointing the key at the keyhole of the chest click the keyhole of the chest to put the key in and......The chest goes open. Take the key that lies in the chest

Also this second key is attached to a rope. While holding the key move to the keyhole that's in the wall next to the ladder rungs.

Make sure that you are still holding the key and that you can click that keyhole.

Click the keyhole to put the key in it and.......the ladder rungs will now come out from the wall

Now climb up via the ladder rungs to the lamp house and enter it

In the lamp house stand the dynamo. The dynamo consists of a turning wheel with lever and a thick battery. Zoom in on the turning wheel.

The battery is empty, as you can see in the charge meter. Click the turning wheel 3 times to completely charge the battery, the charge meter is then full

When the battery is fully charged then you will have electricity and light for about 10 minutes in the two tunnels and the two living areas of Sirrus and Achenar. Also the lamp on top of this lighthouse will be on now. So now let us take a look in the 2 tunnels and in the bedrooms of Sirrus and Achenar.

Sirrus: The Red Page:

Go back out to the ladder hatch and climb back down and go back to the left ship. the ship of Sirrus.

Enter the tunnel. The lights in the tunnel are now on and the water is gone.

If there is water in the tunnel again then you have forgotten to switch on the middle pump.

Go all the way down, about halfway down you notice the entrance of a side tunnel that leads to the compass room, but you ignore this for now.

When you at the end of the tunnel open the door and step inside

You are in Sirrus bedroom. Look around here, but do not take to long because if you stay to long the light will go out because the battery of the dynamo only stay charge for a limit period of time. You can open up the cupboard and the drawers and on the writing table lies the Red Page.

Don't take the Red Page with you now because you need to do get the lights on in the aft cabin of the Sirrus Ship and that involves solving a puzzle first. I hope that the lights in the tunnels are still on. If that's not the case then you must go back to the dynamo on top of the lighthouse to charge it up completely again. Leave this bedroom and, when the lights in the tunnel are still on, now enter that side tunnel and follow it to the Compass room.

The Compass room is the "In between" room,  between the Sirrus and the Achenar tunnel. Here is the large Compass table.

Take a look at the Compass....You do not know what you're suppose to do with it right now. Now enter the other tunnel that leads to the Achenar tunnel.

Achenar: Blue Page

Go right and follow the Achenar tunnel down, open the door of Achenar's bedroom and go inside. You find the Blue Page in the right drawer of the drawing table

Don't take the Blue Page either now. Okay.....you now know where to find the Red Page and the Blue Page. Now to get light in the aft cabin of the Sirrus Ship, so that you can bring the pages back to Myst Island. The lights in the tunnel are probably out again now, so leave here and go back to the Lamp house of the Lighthouse. Charge up the dynamo to full again and go back to the Sirrus ship. When you're back on the Sirrus ship look at the lighthouse and see.....the lamp on top of the lighthouse roof is now on. Go up the wooden path to the Binoculars.

Look through the binoculars and now slide the binocular screen to the left until you see the flashing light, on top of the roof of the lighthouse.

Read, on note down, on how many degrees this flashing light is on the scale. That is at 135 degrees.

Bring the Red Page to Myst:

Go back down and up again in the lighthouse and recharge the battery of the dynamo completely again. Then go back to the tunnel of the left ship, the Sirrus ship, and descend the tunnel completely. Open the door of Sirius's bedroom again and enter again. Now take the Red Page from the right drawer of the writing desk

Leave the bedroom and go, via the side tunnel, to the Compass room.

In the Compass room go stand in front of the Compass in such a way that you have the Top point of the compass star on top.

There are 32 light buttons around the compass

By clicking on one of these 32 light  buttons all buttons will be turned on and then you have also turned on the light in the aft cabin. But if you click on the wrong button then all the lights go out and you have to go back to the battery in the lighthouse to recharge it and then come back here to try again. So which one of the 32 buttons should you click? Through the binoculars you saw that flashing light, on top of the lighthouse at 135 degrees. Well, the button you have to click now is the button that is at 135 degrees around this compass. And that is the 13th button. So count from the middle, above, and click on button 13.

It's a bit tricky to find button 13th because you can't "freeze" the compass. So when you move your cursor around the compass to button 13 you probably will lost sight of the top buttons. You also have to be quick because if the battery goes empty the lights goes out and if this happens you have to go back to the dynamo in the lighthouse to recharge it again. So don't take to long to find button 13 and click it.

When you have clicked the right button 13 then all 32 buttons will be lit and also the big light here will be lit

Quickly turn around and go back through the tunnel and then turn right into the tunnel and climb up and out. The access to the aft cabin is again full of water, so go to the "Umbrella Island" and put the lever on bottom down in the slit and click the activate button to pump the water out of the aft cabin again.

Go back to the left ship and then descend  to the door of the aft cabin.

Open the door and descend the wooden stairs and go to the table

You can do this now because you have now switched on the lights here via the 13th button of the compass.

Zoom in on the table and click the little white button to bring out the Myst Linking Book. Open the book and.......

.....click in the little screen and you will return to the Library on the Myst Island.

Myst Island:

Go to the red book. The Red Page will be put next to the red book automatically.

Click the red page to put it in the Red Book. Open the Red Book and listen patiently to Sirrus again....

You here Sirrus a little better now but there's still some static. Sirrus wants even more red pages and he says that you should not trust his brother Achenar.

When Sirrus has finished zoom out of the book a few times. You have to go get the Blue Page from the Stone ship Age.

So go back to the quay and get onto the Ship again and descend to the Stone ship Age linking book and link back to the Stone ship Age.

Stone ship Age;

Bring the Blue Page to Myst:

You know how it works here in the Stone ship Age now, so I'm not going to spell it out for you all over again ..... You will undoubtedly have to recharge the battery a few times and of course you will have to drain the tunnels and also the aft cabin. You also have to click on the 13th button of the Compass, in the Compass room, to put the light in the aft cabin on again, when you have taken the blue page from the Bedroom of the right Ship.

You know how to do all this, so go grab the Blue Page out the right drawer of Achenar's drawing table in his bedroom

Go back to the Compass in the Compass room and click the 13th button again.

If the lights in the tunnels and in the Compass room are out then you have to go to the lighthouse first to re-charge the dynamo.

Go back through the tunnels and make sure that the water is pumped out of the aft cabin again.

Drop back down to the table in the aft cabin and....

..... bring the Myst Linking book back out the table and link back to the Myst island

Myst Island:

Library:

Back on Myst Island put the Blue page in the Blue Book and listen again to Achenar.  When Achenar is done close the book.

We have 2 more Red and Blue pages to find and we will find them in the Mechanical Age and in the Channel Wood Age.

I'm now going to open up the Mechanical age

Open up the Mechanical Age

After retrieving the Blue Page from the Stone ship Age and pasting it in the Blue Book, here in the library on the Myst Island, you are still in the Library We now want to go to the Mechanical Age and access to this Age is the big Gear, which is on the hill near the quay. You have to open up that big gear wheel.  Zoom again in on the Tower Rotation map and turn the Rotation Knob so that the red beam is placed on the big gear wheel, on top of the hill.

Go to the "tunnel painting" and pull the handle again to open up the tunnel to the elevator and go through the tunnel to the elevator. Open  the elevator, get in and go up.  If you don't trust yourself then you can check, by climbing up the "Book ladder", to see whether the tower is now really aimed at the big gear wheel. Then go to the Key plate and check the next clue that's now on the copper plate. You read the following 2 instructions: 2:40 and 2-2-1.

Write those numbers down and go back down with the elevator. Go back through the tunnel into the library .

Click the handle of the "entrance" painting, to close the bookcase again and open up the library. Exit the library

Clock Tower:

Go past the water well and the generator shed to the console that stand on the edge of the island, facing the clock tower

In the distance you can see the big Clock Tower on that little island. The clock of the tower is set at 12:00 o'clock but the clock isn't running.

On clock tower island stand the marker switch no 7. Zoom in on the console.

The console has 2 rings that you can turn with the handles and a red button. With the outer ring you move the big hand of the tower clock and with the inner ring you move the little hand of the clock. The big hand is the minute hand and the little hand is the hour hand. So grab the handles and turn the rings until the clock in the tower is set at 2: 40 and then push the red button and........A "gear bridge" comes up from the water.

Go over the "gear bridge" to the clock tower. On the left stand the 7th "Marker Switch". The lever of the marker switch is down, so click the lever up now.

All the 8 "Marker Switches" on the island are now activated. Turn to the tower and push the door button to open up the tower door and step inside.

Inside the clock tower is the Tower Mechanism with witch you can open up the big gear on the hill at the quay. The mechanism has 2 levers, A and B. Between the levers A and B is a miniature of the big gear on the hill. That little gear is now closed. On the axis there are 3 gears on top of each other and on each gear you now see the number 3. On the right stand the Reset Lever with witch you can reset the mechanism if you go wrong.

The second clue you saw on the copper plate was 2, 2, 1, so you must set the this 2, 2, 1 on the 3 gears and you do this with the levers A and B if you pull those levers towards you. Lever A rotate the upper and the middle gear 1 turn. Lever B rotate the middle and the lower gear 1 turn. But if you pull and hold a lever then they rotate the 3 gears differently. Practice this for a bit. So grab Lever A and pull it towards you and let go and also do this with lever B. Then see what happens if you hold on to lever A and B. When you done with practice then use the reset lever to set the mechanism back to the starting position, so with 3 on all 3 gears.

Ok...let's solve this now. From the start position: Pull Lever A towards you 1 time and let go. You will see 1, 1, 3 on the 3 gears

Now pull  lever B towards you and HOLD it firmly until the middle wheel is on 2 again and the bottom wheel has 1 on it and.....

The 3 gears now has 2, 2, 1 on them and the little gear Gear  is open, witch mean that the big gear on the hill is now also open

Didn't it work for you? Well........set the 3 gears back to 3, 3, 3  and try again. Can't give you more help with this

Big Gear on the hill:

Ok, if you succeeded then leave the Clock Tower. Cross the "gear bridge" and go over to the library but don't get in.

Turn right and follow the path to the hill and go all the way up the hill.

You'll see that the large Gear Wheel is now also open on the left side. Go there and.....In the gear you'll find the linking book to the Mechanical Age.

Open the Linking Book and click in the screen of the book and......You end up in:
