Chapter 2: Haven: The Prison Age of Achenar

Say, did you see that upright shipwreck during the movie? Do you remember what Atrus said about this boat in the Haven diary?

A: The Golden Dome:

You arrive in a Golden Dome and it is a mess. Take a look around. This is the communication room and once the dome was divided into two parts by a partition wall. The partition wall was needed to prevent Achenar from reaching the Tomahna Linking Book, that is behind you on a stone table. That partition wall is now in ruins, so apparently Achenar has found a way to clear the wall and so he can reach the Tomahna linking book to secretly link to Tomahna.

Look at the exit of the dome and then look down at your "feet". Between the rubble of what once was the partition wall you can see pieces of white crystal glistening.

Zoom in on those pieces of crystal and ........ Your Amulet will flash again, so click on the Amulet. You see, but especially you hear, what happens to the partition wall. Apparently, there was a high frequency noise which caused the separation wall to collapse. Zoom out. Turn to the right. You see a large tilt drawer. A handbag is located in the drawer.

Zoom in on the handbag and the Amulet flash up again, so click again on the Amulet. You see .... Yeesha ....

O ...... Yeesha is afraid. Yeesha is here in Haven, but ..... why is she running away in a panic? And from who is she so afraid of? Zoom out and look up. Above the tilt drawer and the table on which the Linking Book is located, you see a pipe. A rod with a white handle protrudes from the bottom of the pipe.

Grasp that white handle and then push the rod up into the pipe. You'll hear a Horn. The Pipe is a horn and it serves to warn Achenar that a visitor has arrived.

Zoom in on the upper thick part of the horn pipe. Your Amulet will flash again, so click on the Amulet again. You hear Achenar and he talks to Yeesha: "I have a few friends who accept me, but not like before, really not like before. Friends come and go, especially if you wander around a lot, but here! Have been here a long time. Very long time. Makes you crazy, you know Bonkers. Out of your mind ........ Do you have apples with you?

Zoom out and look down at the stone table where the Tomahna Linking Book is located. Click with your finger on the table and the two glass windows open.

Zoom in on the linking book. Place your hand on the right side of the cover and then pull the book to the left. On the right page you can see the link photo to Tomahna. Do not accidentally click on the link photo. This is just an exercise, so you know that the Tomahna Link Book is here and how you can open it. However, you do not want to use it yet, so zoom out of the book with a right click on the left page.

B: On your way to the shipwreck:

Turn around so that you look again at the exit of the dome and then go outside twice. See the upright shipwrecks in the distance.

Turn right. You see that the path is blocked by a pile of boulders and you see a red crab stagger away

Go one step ahead to that barrier. Then look down and slightly to the right. Right before the blockade is a loose stone that now has a Red Crab against it. Under the stone you can see something glittering. Click with your finger on the Red Crab. Crab doesn’t like that and runs off.

Grasp that stone with your hand and then pull the stone to the left and release. Under the stone is the white crystal Guide Spirit statue of Yeesha. Zoom in on the crystal statue and .... the Amulet will flash again, so activate the Amulet. You see Sirrus and Achenar who are struggling a lot with each other.

Zoom out, look back at eye level and turn around to the Golden Dome. Go forward once, back to the Golden Dome, and turn left. To the left of the Golden Dome you now see a passage in the rock. Do not go through that round passage. It is a Dead End. Turn slightly to the left and you will see a narrow gorge in which narrow stone steps go up.

Click with your Forward finger to those stone steps in the gap and .......... You automatically enter the gap and go up the stairs. Then through a cave tunnel and you are on the other side of the rocks. You are standing in front of a Rock Drawing on the rock wall. You can now continue to the right through the gorge or to the left. Turn to the left. You now see the upright shipwreck pontifically in the air.

Look down. There is a climbing rope here. Go Forward and you climb down the rope and you are on the bottom, but now on the other side of the pile of rocks where you have previously tickled the red crab. Now put your Forward finger on the Upright Shipwreck and then go forward 2 times.

The Shipwreck is now to your left, but straight ahead you see a Totem Pole standing in the water and there is also the large carcass of a Wahrk in the water. Go forward to the Totem Pole. Look up. Under the "Head" of the totem pole you can see a small gray square. Zoom in on that. Your Amulet will flash again, so click on the Amulet.

You hear Achenar: "Cleverness ....... Cunning ...... Stealth .... And patience. I cannot forget his patience. "

Achenar talks about that Wahrk, whose carcass is lying next to the totem pole. When this memory is over, just  stay zoomed in on the gray square. It is in fact a symbol. Take a Picture with your photo camera off it, then click twice with your right mouse to zoom out. Turn to the right, to the Wahrk Carcass, Achenar's spears are still in the Wahrk body.

Zoom in on the head of the beast and click on your Amulet again. You hear how Achenar slaughtered the Wahrk.

Zoom out and turn clockwise and go back 1 time in back to the path. Turn right again and you will see the shipwreck in the air again.

Go forward 1 time. A Red Crab is coming to you and the beast almost bites in your feet. Look down. 3 crabs are eating a dead fish that is here on the jetty, right before your feet. Look forward again at the shipwreck and turn to the left for a moment. If you are lucky you will see a Flying Fish coming out of the water and flying away. Go forward once again to the shipwreck. You are standing on top of a small and rickety wooden ladder. You are at:

Wooden Elevator of the Shipwreck:

Stay and look at the elevator. In the elevator is a crate and on the left you see a rotating handle. Go forward in the elevator. You cannot get out on the other side. Look down at the crate and make sure you also see that rotating lever. You now see not only the Rotation Lever but also a Pull Handle and between the Rotation Lever and the Pull Handle there is a button.

Now turn around, so that you are right in front of the turning handle, the button and the pull handle. Place your hand on the knob of the rotating handle and then hold it firmly

Then turn the Rotating handle clockwise. You can see the counterweight coming up. Keep turning the Rotation Lever until it stops. The Counterweight is then fully raised. Now pull that Pull Handle towards you and ...... Nothing happens. The elevator does not go up. The counterweight is not heavy enough and you do not exert enough pressure on the floor of the lift.

Press the button to lower the counterweight.

Turn anticlockwise to look back out. At the bottom of the wooden steps you see 4 large round cannon balls.

Turn around to the box that is in the elevator. Look down at the box. Place your hand on the box and grab the box.

Now drag the box to the right, in one drag with your mouse, to those 4 cannon balls so that the box is placed just before the cannon balls.

Then go out of the elevator 1 time, turn left and look down at the box and the 4 cannon balls. Place your hand on the front cannon ball and then drag that ball to the left, into the box, and then release.

Grab the next cannon ball and also drag it to the box and against the 1st cannonball and release. Both balls then automatically roll into the box. If you put 2 cannon balls in the box in this way, you look up at normal eye level and turn around completely so that you look at the other side. You see a barrel standing and you see the mast of the shipwreck lying in the water.

Go forward 1 time to the barrel, then turn right and look down again at your "feet". You also see four cannon balls lying here. While looking at these 4 balls, turn to the right. Next to the 4 balls you see a box that is attached to a rope. This box is the counter weight of the wooden lift and there are already 3 cannonballs in it. Now drag, in the way you did with the previous 2 cannonballs, 3 of the 4 cannonballs into this box. The balls automatically roll in a row into the box.

When you have dragged the 3 cannon balls into this box, then there are 6 cannonballs in this box. Turn right and go back 1 step, up the stairs.

You are back at the first box where you have put in the 2 cannon balls. Look down at the box and grab it again and slide the box to the left again, into the elevator until it is back in its original position.

Then go back into the lift yourself and look down again at the Rotation Lever and the Pull Handle.

Grasp the Rotating Handle again and turn it around until the Counterweight is fully back up. Then pull the Pull Handle and ....

The elevator now goes up and takes you to the upper gangway.

Go forward one time over the gangway, towards the shipwreck. O ..... you cannot go any further. A gaping gap between you and the shipwreck. Look down.

Down below you see the Draw bridge hanging on the rope. You have to get the drawbridge up:

The Drawbridge:

Turn back and go back into the Wooden Lift. In the elevator you turn left again and you look down again at the box with the two cannon balls in it.

Make sure you also have the bar with the rope in sight. Put your hand back on the box and push the box to the left ,so that it comes under the beam with the rope.

The box lowers and this raises the Drawbridge. Now go 2 times ahead over the gangway and the drawbridge and you are at the end of the gangway, but are not yet on the shipwreck.

C: The Shipwreck:

You are at the end of the gangway. In front of you, but to the left, you see a ladder going up. If you turn to the right you will see a square hole in the deck through which a "rope ladder" goes down. So you can now choose what you want to do first.  You first go up via the ladder or you first go down via the "rope ladder". Your choice. I first go down through the rope ladder. So if you want to do that first, you aim the Forward Finger on that square hole and go forward one time. You are then right in front of the Rope ladder.

Climb through the square hole via the "Rope Ladder" .  Downstairs,  turn around. You are in a narrow "cabin".

You see a work table in front of you. Go forward and you stand in front of the work table.

A rickety shelf hangs above the table and there is a stuffed animal on that shelf. It is a Karnak. Zoom in on this stuffed animal. Your Amulet will blink, so click on the Amulet and "enjoy" Achenar while he is finishing this beast. "Tsk tsk! If you steal from me, you must pay for it ... Understand? ....." Do you hear me? "" Now you understand me"Nice guy, Achenar? I fear that Atrus, but especially Catherine, are still faced with unpleasant surprises regarding their two sons. Zoom out and look down at the table. A Paper is on the table. Zoom in quickly before it blows away by the wind.

On the paper you see a number of paw prints and with each paw print you see an animal. Take a picture of this drawing. You need it later because you have to recognize the paw prints later. Each paw print is therefore from another animal and with each paw print you see the food that is eaten as the most important meal by the owner of the paw print.

Zoom out 2 times via your right mouse button. Turn to the right. You see a "side room" and in there is a barrel on the left side. Go into this "side room" and watch out that you do not fall down into the sea, then turn to the right . A plank full of things balances on two barrels

On the shelf is a pincer/pliers on the left, in the middle is an iron "bear trap" and on the right is a bottle with a red tube attached to it with a spray pipe. First look at the pincers that are on the left of the shelf and then zoom in on the shelf. The Amulet will flash again, so click on the Amulet. You hear Achenar again: "I am the hunter, you are the prey, not the other way, Creep. I will make you pay, friend, you and all your Rotten Kind."

Zoom out. Well now ..... what is that Achenar hysterical. You can, if you like, click on that bear trap that lies in the middle of the shelf. Then do that twice. 1 time to load the trap and the 2nd time to close the trap. Be careful for your fingers. You can also click on the pipe of the bottle. Then a green cloud comes out of the bottle and you become very dizzy for a moment. Remember this green stuff. Turn clockwise and aim your cursor to the work table and then head back to the work table. Then turn around completely and go back to the other side of this room and climb back up the "rope ladder". Back up, turn left and go forward to the ladder. Turn right so that you are right in front of the ladder and then look up the ladder until you get the forward cursor.

Click and you automatically climb up to the upper deck and then automatically turn to the right. Hula ... what is that?

Through the hole a Karnak is flown in and the animal stands in front of you and eats a fish that he or she has just caught.

If the Karnak looks straight at you, you quickly look down at his paws. Notice what kind of paws the beast has and compare the paws of the Karnak with the paw prints on your photo of the "paw prints drawing". Do you recognize the Karnak paws on the photo? The animal feels at ease here and doesn’t mind your presence at all. It will not go away on its own and as long as that animal is here you cannot go any further. So tickle the animal with your finger for a moment. He is not amused. The Karnak looks at you haughtily and reproachfully for a moment and then it flies away.

When the Karnak has flown away, go 2 times forward. Turn clockwise until you see 3 wheels over which the rope of the mainsail runs.

You see 2 large wheels, a small button and a small wheel.

The upper large wheel has a turning handle. Place your hand on the turn handle and then turn the wheel anti-clockwise and continue to do so until you hear "Click". From the "Click" the wheel will turn automatically and you will see the Sail being lifted. On the sail you see an image of this Haven Island and the various animals that occur on it. The island is divided into various territories. Every animal therefore lives in its own territory. Zoom in on the sail.

Your Amulet will flash again, so click on the Amulet again. You hear Achenar again: "Here I was looking for, and here ... Nowhere to be found .... Or here ..... What is there in the South Forest?" Take a photo of the sail with the image on it. The five animals you see on this sail are: The Cerpatee that you see at the top. Under the Cerpatee you can see the Mangree. To the right of the Mangree you see the Camoudile and under the Camoudile you see the Zeftyr and to the left of the Zeftyr you also see the Karnak. Zoom out of the sail. Look at the wheels again. and now click on the little button on the right of the top wheel to fold the sail back up. If this has happens, turn to the right and go forward one time towards the ladder hole. Then turn right. You stand for an open hatch hole.

Crawl through the hatch hole. Then turn right and look down. You see a half-decayed chest full of gold and jewels. There are also jewels and a cup in front of the chest.

Zoom in on the box and then click on your Amulet. You hear, but now see also, Achenar get crazy: "WHERE IS IT? WHERE IS THAT ....... WHERE IS IT? WHERE IS THAT DAMMED KEY BOOK? "

Zoom out and turn around. Go forward one time to the back of this narrow space. There is a book on the Jute.

Zoom in on the Book and click on the Amulet. This is:

Achenar's diary:

Open the book. Achenar reads. Well, you know by now how this works. So turn the pages and listen to Achenar. Some pages are smeared by the dirty fingers of Achenar and on these pages the sentences are only partly readable. So it is useful if you listen carefully to Achenar. You learn about the 5 animals Achenar has "met" and you experience that he also discovered a large monster that he is very afraid of. Furthermore, you learn a lot about the state of mind that Achenar is in.

How did I postpone a visit here for so long? Father had warned me about this Time. He said Haven was a sumptuous era, but visiting without him was dangerous. The liar. Could have known that he would use everything to keep Sirrus and me under control. I hate him. Look, father. Who has whom now under control?

It's raining since my arrival. Very bad weather. If it does not rain, it is almost too quiet apart from the animal sounds in the distance. What would be on the other side of those rocks? Tonight it is too wet to do something, but tomorrow enough time for treasure digging, Given the crates in this wreck it will be fun. Oh dear, how Sirrus will be angry if he discovers that I have found all the rubies first!

For a whole week I cut my way through this jungle and I have not seen a dog yet. How did you do that, Father? Did you change this island into a zoo? Really something for you to get those stupid idiots to get that far. I have to give it to you, Some of those animal heads deserve a place on my wall at home.

You see on the next page a drawing of the Camoudile, which is a predator, and the Zeftyr, which is a plant eater.

Today I saw my first monkey. I was chopping a path through the jungle when one of those bastards pelted me from behind with a piece of fruit! I was shocked. I quickly turned around to take him over, but he screamed deafeningly. Was a signal for his friends, because they all fled their nests. Too bad for him, our screaming monkey was not fast enough.

Drawing of the Mangree monkey, which according to Achenar is a meat eater.

It is still very hot! I almost start to appreciate those storms. You cannot hunt, but it cools things down for a while. I am surprised then my greedy brother is not there yet. He had to know that I went through on Serenia after our truce. He is crazy when he thinks his plan works here. We just have to kill father, end of story. On the other hand, I may have to return to Myst and convince Sirrus to bring the old man here to Haven. After all those weeks of training I can really hunt and track. Cannot. Cannot. Just cannot. It MUST be somewhere here. MUST. But I have searched everywhere. Really everywhere.

WHERE IS THAT DAMMED KEY BOOK !!!! "" Must calm myself. Make a plan. Sirrus would do that too ... (Unreadable) "" WHERE IS SIRRUS???? !!! "" Does not matter. Must have a place, must hide me. A stop!! THINK!"

THE SHIP. That could be. Until I can build something better. Must be easy to come by. Easier but no problems with intruders. Should I protect myself, right? Drawing of the Wooden Lift. From here, some bits of the sentences are not legible. Good. Which is good.

That is G ..... I WILL KILL YOU FOR THIS, OLD MAN !!!!! .......beast dead ....... everywhere blood .. ....... better spear ........ wind tunnel. Good hunting. Especially Karnaks. Using their way of fishing against them was genius of me. Cannot escape. I ... improperly caught.

WHERE IS SIRRUS Last days too many ....... Do not remember me there .......... Is there anyone here? Something big. Those predator hunter ........ Why have not I seen anything? ......... find out! ......... naughty brother ......... liar ....... fake truce ........ Sirrus is also stuck. As I built the machines, he went to Spire to plunder! SPIRE!! FATHERS OTHER DANGEROUS TIME !.

Miserable Camoudile .......... almost lost my leg, immediately ......... wait until the high tide .............. more tracks. ..... rain washes away ......... found ........ but really traces ....... sneaked, Thinking that he waits ....... same place .......... looked new, but ......... smelled that I was coming ............

JEEZ! This is GREAT ........ CAN NOT !! Shaking hands. Did not expect an attack. Did not realize. BEAUTIFUL! ...... they are rising from the sea. Water flows from its gills. So much EVIL! DEATH in his eyes. Sun is sinking behind it. Almost blinded by the sun. Has been designed it must have KNOWN. But I still live, monkfish. I LIVE. And I'm going to beat you. DEATH is my witness. YOUR BONES GO MY ARCHY !!!

Well, that was it. You will not be very happy off what you've just read, I imagine. Zoom out of the book via a click with your right mouse button. Turn left and go back to the hatch and quickly crawl back through the hatch. Then turn right and go back 1 time in to the ladder hole.

Look down at the ladder and climb back down the ladder. At the bottom of the ladder, turn around so that you look again at the first gangway and the Drawbridge. Put your forefinger on the gangway and click. You will return to the gangway. Go 2 times ahead to enter the Wooden Lift again. Turn clockwise to the Rotation Lever, the Knob and the Pull Handle.

Click on the button and the counterweight goes down and so does the elevator.

Well, for the moment we are finished with the Shipwreck. You must now return to the rope you have climbed down with, when you left the rock tunnel. Turn around and go 2 times forward over the "scaffolding". On the left is that totem pole. Turn right and go 2 more times forward.

You are back at the blockade in the path. Turn left and you will return to the climbing rope. Look up and climb back up the rope.

You are back in the gap. You see boxes standing straight ahead. Do not go there yet. On the right side of the gorge a stone staircase goes up to a viewpoint. Go forward on the stone stairs. Above you are at a viewpoint. You look out over the jungle. Straight ahead is a pointed rock above the jungle. If you look up and to the right, you see a Red Flag flying in the distance. If you look to the left of the rock, you will see a wooden cabin standing in the jungle. We will now first go there.

Turn around and go back down the stairs to the gorge. Then turn around and go now forward 2 times through the gap, to the crates and chests.

You cannot go any further. Turn anti clockwise. He..... a TENT ... Go ahead to the Tent and ... ....

A Zeftyr is coming out of the tent. You almost died and you are tumbling down. You pick up the tent cloth and fortunately you have the presence of mind to use the canvas as a parachute. Yet you still fall hard and you lose consciousness for a moment. A Mangree Monkey then licks your nose and you come by your senses a bit.

IMPORTANT .... The Monkey sees a Camoudile and sounds his warning cry to warn his buddies. Listen carefully to the cry of the Mangree Monkey because you will have to repeat the Cry of the Mangree monkey, so listen carefully. The Mangree Cry is: HIGH, LOW, HIGH. The Monkey runs off and is being chased by a Camoudile who likes a nice little monkey. Okay, so you're now in

D: the jungle:

The jungle is a bit of a maze. There are different paths and everything looks a bit like the same. I will try to show you the best way possible.

Start by looking at your "feet" first. For your feet you see 2 pawn prints in the sand. Zoom in on it.

Your Amulet will flash again, so click on the Amulet. You hear the giggling sound of the animal from which these paw prints originate

Compare these paw prints with the prints on the photo of the paw prints.

Zoom out and look straight ahead again. You are now at a crossing of 3 paths. If you turn left now you will see the remains of the Tent. You can move forward that way. Let's call this path the Left Path. Turn back to the right so that you look again at the path where the two footprints are on. Let's call this path the Straight ahead Path. Turn to the right and you will see the 3rd path that is actually the extension of the Left Path. This is what we call the Right Path.

Turn back to the tent again. Then look up at the tree. There are some pieces of tent cloth hanging on the branches of the tree.

Zoom in on the canvas that is hanging in the tree and then click on your Amulet.

You now see the film of your dive down into the jungle, so you have another chance to hear that cry from the Mangree Monkey.

Zoom out and turn right 1 time to the Straight ahead path. Now go 4 times ahead on this Straight ahead Path. After 4 times ahead you see a Mangree Monkey in the tree on the left side of the path.

The Monkey again sounds his warning cry, High, Low, High, and then jumps to the tree on the right side of the path and then disappears into the jungle. Go forward one more time. You cannot move forward any further and seem to have landed on a Dead End. Turn to the right. You see a few tufts of Reddish-brown Ferns.

Behind the reddish brown bushes you see a thick wooden pole. Look up. There is a wooden hut on top of the pole. It is the Wooden Hut that you saw from the viewpoint. It is the "Hunting Place" that Achenar talks about in his diary. It seems you cannot go to the Wooden Hut on the pole. Look down at the red-brown ferns. Behind the front large bushes are 2 smaller bushes. Name those 2 back bushes A and B. Place your hand on bush A and then push the ferns of this bush to the left. Place your hand on bush B and push the leaves of this bush to the right and ......... you can move forward to the Wooden Hut on the pole.

So move ahead to the pole with the wooden hut, look up and click your forward finger to climb up. So you end up in the:

Hut on the pole:

Scare away the apes

You are in the hut on the pole. At the back of the hut is a small green box that serves as a table. In the corner, to the left of the box, there is a pile of bones. Zoom in on the bones. Your Amulet will flash, so click on the Amulet. You hear Achenar who is busy slaughtering an animal. "Okay so ... well ... you know you want the fruit ... Come on, kid ....... THAT'S IT!" Zoom out. Turn around, so that you look at the entrance / exit of the cabin and then look up. At the top of the entrance / exit hangs a piece of rolled up canvas that Achenar uses as a curtain. Pull this canvas down completely.

On the canvas you see paw prints again. The paw prints tell you "who is being eaten by whom". Take a picture of it.

Zoom out twice and turn around completely. On the back wall, above the green box and the bones, you can see three rotating wheels. Zoom in on it. You then look out the window in the back and in the distance you see a hurdle of those Mangree Apes playing "leap frog". Zoom in on those monkeys. You will then see from close up that these monkeys climb into a Totem pole.

There is a symbol on the totem pole and you have to take a picture of it. Unfortunately there is always a Monkey in front of that symbol in the post.

So you cannot see the symbol because of the monkeys that are in the way. Zoom out. You then see those three turning wheels at the bottom of your screen.

You have to scare off those monkeys out of the totem pole. The three wheels are connected to three "buckets" that hang underneath. Each wheel has a rotary knob. You can turn each wheel to the left and to the right and if you do that you will hear a certain tone. Those 3 "buckets" are therefore loudspeakers. Practice with the three wheels for a moment.

The left wheel makes a low tone, the middle wheel makes a medium tone and the right wheel makes a high tone. Do you remember the warning cry from the Mangree Monkey? That went from: HIGH, LOW, HIGH. Well, this cry must now also be heard through these wheels. But there is a difficulty.

Not only do you have to pay attention to the HEIGHT of the tone, but also to the LENGTH, so to the DURATION of the tone. And it has to happen in quick succession. So you have to grab quickly from one wheel to another. Do you need too much time then this has effect on the LENGTH, so the duration, of the tone and then you go wrong.

You only have to turn the Right wheel and the Left wheel. You will stay away from the Middle Wheel.

I cannot offer you much more help with this. It is a matter of practice, perseverance, precision and speed. The only thing I can give you is the following:

  • Turn the Right Wheel about 3 quarters of a circle, so for 3/4. The Left wheel about 1 quarter of a circle, so for 1/4 ....... Well both left, so clockwise

You can see the wheels best as circles that you then divide into 4 quarters for yourself. Or you view the wheels each as a clock that you then divide for yourself into 4 quarters, ie: 12 hours, 3 hours, 6 hours and 9 hours.

The position of the levers does not matter. You will therefore turn the wheels a quarter turn or 3 quarter turn from each position of the levers.

The cry is : HIGH, LOW, HIGH. So do the following:

  • Turn the Right Wheel about 3/4 of a circle anti-clockwise.
  • Turn the Left Wheel about 1/4 of a circle anti-clockwise.
  • Turn the Right Wheel again, about 3/4 of a circle to the left and .....

If you are very lucky then you succeeded after 3 tries and you have driven the monkeys out of the totem pole. Then zoom in again on the Totem Pole. Between the hands you now see a gray symbol.

Take a picture of this symbol and SAVE your GAME

  The ZIP MODE:

You must now return to the beginning of the jungle. So to where you left the tent canvas. If you have switched on the ZIP MODE in the game options, this is a piece of cake. If not, you will have to find the route back through the jungle yourself. I assume that you, like me, have switched on the Zip mode. Then you have the ZIP COMPASS at the bottom right of your screen. Click on it and 3 small images will appear at the bottom of your screen.

Through the Zip images you can return to the places where you have been before in one go, but you also have to be in the area where those places are located. The most right of the 3 images is the place where you left the tent canvas. So that is the Left Path of the 3 paths. Click on that image and you will return to the tent canvas in one go.

Now forward 1 time beyond the tent canvas. STOP! Stay there for a moment.

You will hear humming and then, right in front of you, a Camoudile predator appears on the path. The beast comes from the right and disappears to the left.

Go forward one more time. Now you cannot move forward any further, so turn to the left, the way that that predator is gone.

Continue 2 times ahead and you are standing in front of a tree with bushes in front of it. It seems to be a dead end but on the left of the tree you get the forward cursor again. So move forward one time on the left side of the tree. You really cannot move forward. Turn left again and advance 1 time. STOP! Turn to the right. You see a Karnak who is eating a delicious fish.

Turn back to the left and continue forward 1 time. STOP!. Turn to the right. You are now in front of a Wooden Gate.

The gate is closed and you do not get it open when you push or pull with full force. Look at the left  post of the gate. That pole is hollow and there is a Plate hanging in it. Zoom in on that plate in the hollow post. Your Amulet will flash again, so click on the Amulet. You hear Achenar again. Achenar tells you, unwillingly, the solution of the Gate Puzzle. "HEAR" T? LISTEN! JUST TRY TO GET PAST THIS GATE, YOU THIEVING KARNAKS! THEY NEVER DISCOVER IN WHAT HOLES THE HAMERS MUST! "

The Wooden gate: The Hammer Puzzle:

Stay zoomed in on the panel. Place your hand just above the middle button, which you see at the bottom of the panel, on the panel and slide the panel all the way up. You see the Lock of the gate. SAVE your GAME before you do anything now. The lock consists of three round bars. There are 6 holes in each bar and you can slide a Slider back and forth over each bar.

Name the Bars, from top to bottom, A, B, C and the 3 Sliders you also call A, B, C. Number the holes in each bar, from left to right, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 You will then get holes that you name A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6, C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6

In Bar A you see a White Pin in hole 3, so in hole A3 and a Light Brown Hammer in hole 5, so in hole A5. Call this light brown hammer: Hammer 1.

In Bar C there is a White Pin in hole 4, so in hole C4 and a Dark Brown hammer in hole 1, so in hole C1. Call this dark brown hammer :Hammer 2.

The intention is that you ensure that the head of Hammer 1 hits the Pin in hole A3 without the Hammer 1 in this hole and that the head of Hammer 2 ends up in hole C4 without Hammer 2 itself is also in this hole.

It is a lot of pushing back and forth and it is really better that you first SAVE Your Game before you start this. If you go wrong you can always go back to the initial situation. The next solution ensures that you get the lock open in 22 moves, but it starts from the very first set-up of the hammers.

Do the following exactly:

  1. Slide Hammer 1 down to hole 5B.
  2. Slide the Slider B all the way to the left. Hammer 1 is then in hole 3B.
  3. Push Hammer 1 up into hole 3A.
  4. Slide Slider A 1 hole to the right. Hammer 1 is then in hole 4A.
  5. Put Hammer 2 up in hole 1B.\
  6. Slide Slider B all the way to the right.
  7. Move Hammer 2 down to hole 4C.
  8. Slide Slider C 1 hole to the left so that Hammer 2 is in hole 3C.
  9. Move Hammer 1 down to hole 4B.
  10. Slide Slider B 2 holes to the left so that Hammer 1 is in hole 2B.
  11. Move Hammer 1 up to hole 2A.
  12. Slide Slider A all the way to the right. Hammer 1 is then in hole 4A.
  13. Move Hammer 1 down to hole 4B.
  14. Slide Slider B all the way to the left. Hammer 1 is then in hole 3B.
  15. Move Hammer 1 up to hole A3. Hammer 1 is now in the right place.

  1. Move Hammer 2 up to hole 3B.
  2. Slide Slider B 2 holes to the right. Hammer 2 is then in hole 5B.
  3. Move Hammer 2 down to hole 5C.
  4. Slide Slider C all the way to the left. Hammer 2 is then in hole 3C.
  5. Move Hammer 2 up to hole 3B.
  6. Slide Slider B all the way to the right. Hammer 2 is then in hole 4B.

  1. Move Hammer 2 down to hole 4C and .....

The panel will automatically come down and you will see that the Wooden Gate is sliding open.

You made it. SAVE the GAME here, in case you want to play Myst 4 Revelation again later. Then you can put this Save in and you do not have to do this puzzle again.

NB: after move 22, does the panel not go down and the gate does not open? Then you went wrong with the moves. Then load your previous Save from the beginning of this puzzle and start again

Go forward once through the now opened gate. You arrive at

E: The Lake:

This lake is the habitat of the Karnaks. That is not surprising because the lake is full of tasty fish.

In the middle of the lake there is a hut and on top of that hut the Red Flag is waving, which you also saw from the viewpoint.

Zoom in on the lake. Your Amulet will flash again, so click on the Amulet and listen to that awful Achenar again:

"Really, how difficult is that? The worst is the foundation, if it is in it ........ Everything is better than sleeping in that wreck, is not it? "

Zoom out and turn anti clockwise. Between the rocks and the bushes is the 3rd totem pole. Zoom in on it and click on your Amulet again. You hear that giggling animal again.

This 3rd totem pole also has a symbol on his "belly". So take a picture of the totem pole and make sure the symbol is on the picture

Zoom out twice and continue to the left until you get your first forward finger on the path. Then advance 1 time.

You walk against a large dark red plant. To the left of this plant the path continues. You are in fact on a 3-way junction. Now go, left of the red plant, 7 times ahead,......

you have to move back and forth with your mouse every time to find the forward finger.

After you have gone 7 times ahead you will see an Iron Bear trap lying on the left side of the path.

Zoom in on the Bear trap and click on your Amulet. You hear Achenar: "Oh yeah! Keep screaming boy!

Zoom out. Now do not follow this path ahead, but turn around. Follow the path back 2 times, to the gray tree.

You "collide" against the thick gray tree. The path continues along the left of the tree. Turn slightly left and look for the forward finger and continue forward 3 times.

After you have gone 3 clicks you stop and turn to the iron bear trap on the path.

Zoom back in on the Bear trap and click on your Amulet again. You hear the agony of the animal that has been in the trap.

Zoom out and turn back and move forward 1, STOP! Right in front of you the path goes between the rocks and behind those rocks you can see 2 Zeftyr's standing there. Go ahead and .......

A Camoudile attacks the Zeftyr's in the high reeds and kills them and then slowly fills his hungry stomach.

F: The High Reed

You are no longer in the jungle but in the high reeds. You are now in the domain of the Camoudile. In front of you is that Camoudile, that is eating the 2 Zeftyr's he has just killed. To the right of this is a gray tree stump. Go 1 click forwards,  to get past the eating Camoudile.

STOP and turn to the Camoudile. That tree stump is now on the right side of the path. Zoom in on the tree stump.

There is a chopper in the tree stump and your Amulet starts flashing again. Click on your Amulet.......You can hear Achenar screaming “Timber” while he is cutting the tree stump.  Zoom out and turn back to see the sea at the end of all this reed. Follow the path between the reeds further 2x ahead. You cannot go further because you are standing in front of the sea.

Turn to the left and ..... You will see 2 large plants. The plants have bulbs. From behind the rear plant that Camoudile comes to you. Apparently he has no appetite for Zeftyr meat and he wants to try something different. Well, you cannot run anymore, so get ready. The Camoudile, however, rubs against the plant with its head, causing the spheres of the plant to break.

The same intoxicating gas that came out of the bottle, that you saw standing on the shelf in the shipwreck, is coming out of that little plant bulb. You got dizzy but this filthy green gas makes that the Camoudile now totally goes knock out in front of your feet. The bulbs of the front plant also burst and you yourself become dizzy again. Zoom in on that rear plant and click on your Amulet...You hear Achenar: "Don’t you like it, do you, you have to puke, puke everything out. I know, I know...... What happens when you get a spear point in your guts."  Zoom out and turn to the left until you get the forward finger on the path between the reeds. Then go back 1 time on the path. STOP!.

Straight ahead is back to the jungle and there you have to go, but first you have to find the 4th Totem Pole, the Camoudile Totem. Turn slightly to the right. There is a path to the right between the reeds. Follow this path one time ahead. You walk against a large round and gray rock boulder. Turn to the right and go forward one time along the right side of the boulder and you will be behind the boulder.

Turn left and look up. You see the 4th totem pole. Zoom in again and click on your Amulet: you hear Achenar exclaim. "The last one You can do it ... Strength ....... Agility ....... Courage ...." Take another picture of the symbol on this totem pole and call it the 4th totem or something.

Zoom out twice and turn anticlockwise and go one last time along the boulder to the front of the boulder.

Then turn slightly to the left and go back 1 time over the path to the main path. Turn clockwise to the forward path and go forward once again.

Then turn slightly to the right and .......... You will see that tree stump you zoomed in earlier.

Go 2 more times ahead and you are out of the high reeds and back at the edge of the jungle. You came from the path right in front of you, so turn left now.

A path goes up along the rocks. Follow this path one time ahead. A Mangree ape then jumps on the path and then plunges right into the jungle with the warning cry. A Camoudile runs after the monkey. Continue 1 forward and STOP !. Straight ahead of you are planks on the path and also a barrel

A path also goes to the right. This right path continues under a thick gray fallen tree and then continues and back to the Wooden Gate. You do not want to take this path now, so follow the path with the wooden plank path and do this one time ahead. You come in:

G: The Swamp:

The swamp is the world of the Zeftyr and the walkways are the shelves that you go from hill to hill. Go 2 times ahead on the shelves and STOP.

On the little hill, right in front of you, you see Paw prints. Right next of the plank you are standing on now is a brown frog that you can "tickle" with your finger. Do this a few times to make the frog jump to the left in the swamp. Then zoom in on the paw prints, that are in the grass of the hill, and click on your Amulet. You hear the Zeftyr sound.

Zoom out and look over the hill. You see that there is a split in the path behind the hill. Go forward one time and you are at the fork. In the distance you can see the Hut of Achenar. Turn to the left. to the left path. In the distance you can see the Zeftyr Totem, that is Totem pole 5.

Go to Totem Pole 5 and zoom in on it and click on your Amulet again: you hear Achenar......"Grace .... Noble .... Careful ..... Stupid stupidity can be a virtue".

Take a picture of the Totem symbol again and then zoom out 2 times.

Turn around and go back 2 times to the junction, then turn left and go forward 1 time and turn right. You will then see straight in front of you the Wooden Staircase that goes up to the platform of the Wooden Bridge.

Continue forward to the wooden staircase. Do not go up the wooden stairs yet, but look down at the ground.

Zoom in on the swampy ground, before the stair's and click again on your Amulet. You hear a high tone. Zoom out and now go up the Wooden Staircase and you stand for the:

H: Wooden Bridge:

Unfortunately, the Wooden Bridge has been raised by Achenar. So you cannot go to the other side. Turn right and go forward the right platform. Turn left. You stand in front of the closed wooden cabinet.

In the Wooden Cabinet there is the mechanism to move the drawbridge up and down. Zoom in on the cupboard. Your Amulet will flash again, so click on the Amulet and listen again to that awful Achenar: "I do not care how agile they are, they do not get in when I'm not there." Zoom out and then look up and turn to the right. Above your head hangs a large wooden pulley with a triangle handle

Click on that triangle handle and it comes down.

Turn left again to the wooden case and see ...... the cabinet is now open and you can see the mechanism of the bridge. You are now in the:

Bridge puzzle:

First save your game here.

The intention is that you get the bridge down so you can go over it to the other side. On top of the round top part of the "cupboard" you see 5 "Valves". In the front of each valve you see a round window in which you currently see the same symbol 5 times. There is a thick gold colored button on top of each valve. Grab just one of these golden buttons and then slowly pull it up. If you do this you will see that there are 8 Symbols in the valve and you also see that there are 8 small black dots on the rod of the valve. Those dots can help you to determine if you have the correct symbol in the windows. Now slide this valve completely down again.

You also see that the window of the 4th valve is broken and you do not see a symbol in it. On the left side of this valve device you can see a large lever. You must therefore have the correct symbol in each of the 5 valves in the window. These are of course the 5 symbols that you have seen on the 5 totem poles. The order is from left to right and this order is determined by the order of the 5 animal species that you have come across and in descending ranking. You have learned this ranking through the two paw print images that you have seen and from which you have taken a picture and you have also been able to learn this ranking somewhat during your walk through the jungle.

The correct order is therefore: Cerpatee, Camoudile, Mangree, Karnak, Zeftyr. This is perfectly logical because the Cerpatee and the Camoudile are meat eaters but the Cerpatee is a lot bigger than the Camoudile. The omnivores come and that is the Mangree and the Karnak, but the Mangree monkeys are more intelligent than the Karnak. Right at the bottom of the food chain are the herbivores and that is the Zeftyr.

Number the valves, from left to right, as 1 to 5.

The symbol that you now see in all 5 windows is the first symbol of the 8 symbols that you can put in each window by pulling the button upwards. Through the number of dots that you always see on the bars you can determine whether you have put the correct symbol in the window. However, valve 4 must be set via valve 3. Here we go:

Valve 1: Pull the knob upwards until symbol 3 is in the window. On the bar you count 3 black dots.

Valve 2: Pull the knob upwards until you have symbol 2 in the window. The bar then counts 2 black dots.

Valve 3: Now you first put the symbol for Valve 4 in this window. Pull the knob of Valve 3 upwards until you have the 5th symbol in the window. Then push the button all the way down so that you have Symbol 1 again in this window.

Valve 4: Now you really have to count the black dots on the bar. Pull the knob up until you have 5 black dots on the bar.

Valve 5: Pull the knob upwards until you have the 4th symbol in the window.

If you have done well then the whole looks like this .......

Now place your hand on the large Lever, which is on the left side of the device, and pull this handle towards you and .

if you have done well then the 5 valves reset but the drawbridge will now lower.

If the bridge does not come down, you have done it wrong and you will have to do it again. SAVE YOUR GAME if you have solved this puzzle correctly.

The cabinet is closed again, turn left and go 1 time ahead, turn right and now go 3 times forward over the wooden bridge. STOP. Do not move forward but turn left. You stand in front of the Hut. On top of this hut that red flag is waving, which you also saw from the vantage point. So you are at the Hut in the Lake:

I: The Hut in the Lake:

Click with your finger on the rickety door and you will automatically enter. Inside the hut you stand against the pole, that stand in the middle of the hut. Look down and then turn to the right. There is a big chest next to you. Place your hand on the lock of the box and then pull the lid upwards so that the lid is fully raised. Zoom in on the contents of the box. There are diving gear in but you have nothing on it, so just zoom out again.

Turn back to the pole. Behind the pole is Achenar's bed. Left next to the pole is a large box. Achenar's desk is to the right of the post. Go forward to the desk. There is a sloping shelf on the desk. It is a writing board and there is a rolled up sheet of paper. Roll the sheet of paper out. There is a drawing of a Monkey. Zoom in on the drawing. It is an Monkey with a White Beard.

Below the monkey you see a diagram of 6 squares. In box 1 you see a Thick Stripe and in box 4 a Thin Stripe. Above the diagram you see 3 pots. It is from those "loudspeaker" pots that also hang under the 3 wheels with which you had to do the "Drive out the Monkey Puzzle" in the Pole Hut. So I'm afraid you'll have to do that stuff with those 3 wheels somewhere sometime. I can already tell you that this White Beard Monkey is important, so take a picture of this drawing.

Zoom out and then turn left to the bed. There is a book and a shirt on the bed.

Go forward to the bed and zoom in on the shirt. Your Amulet will blink again, so click on the Amulet and listen to Achenar: "Please, no more, no more! Too late, too late, they're all dead." Zoom out. Zoom in on the book in front of the shirt on the bed. Click on the Amulet again and then open the book. This is the

2nd Diary of Achenar:

Okay, you know now, right? Listen to Achenar and turn over the pages in time. It is important that you read this journal "well" because you learn important things.

Do not know if I can do this. My pen feels strange. Slips away. Long ago that I used one. But what's more? What can I do? Went to the Wreck today. For the first time since I have the house. His bones were just like that. But clean. Bleached by the sea. How often have I experienced this in my head again? The sun is sinking in the waves. The tip of my spear is dripping from the poison. I see myself crouching by the rocks. I was SO SURE that He would come. Because of his female.

Sometimes it is very different in my head. The poison is diluting. Or one of her ropes breaks. He rises above me. Speer is missing. They escape. And we all get 1 extra day to live. Today the traps are put again. One was rusted by the swamp water. Had to return for the repair. Saw a Camoudile kill a Zeftyr. Such precise movements. No gesture too much. I do not think Zeftyr felt anything.

Not what I expected. Living on a lake. it is quieter. Less wind. But it is raining, just like in Wreck. And it is warm. Very warm. The only real difference is the screaming. Closer now. From all sides. I start to work on the nerves. Cannot sleep. Too much screaming. And when I close my eyes, the things that I see. The faces. My god, Sirrus. Did we really kill so much ?? Have counted them, as good as I could. 8 years. 3 years ago I killed the last Cerpatee. I think I should do something for them. A kind of tombstone at the bones. Or a totem pole. Making something like this will keep me busy for a while. Do I make one for each of them?

You see a drawing of the 5 totem poles. So they were made and put down by Achenar. In memory of all those poor beasts he has killed.

Why? What is the point? I cannot go on like this. I cannot think anymore !! Must do something. I have to FORGET those dreams. Maybe a few days to the south? Sleep outside. Brother !! Father did it really have to be the same? I traveled through the South Jungle for two weeks and for what? More of the same. More of the same godforsaken empty NOTHING. I cannot take it anymore. That way I cannot LIVE !!! Karnaks were inside when I was gone. Forget how agile they are. Also dare more in a group. Breeding as rabbits since I killed their natural enemy. Maybe I should do something about them. Maybe I can adjust 1 side of the bridge. A kind of lock to keep them out.

You see a drawing of the Wooden Bridge and the Bruges Valve Mechanism.

Today we went back to the South Jungle. Hoped I missed something. Saw a group of Mangrees playing under their nests. Wanted to supplement my rations. But I could not. They looked so peaceful. I left, and saw how one was watching me. I think it's a bad appearance. Wonder how long he knew I was there. Almost no ink anymore. I'm diluting now. but try to make more. As the tree dwellers in Channel wood taught me. In the South Jungle some leaves were found to make ink. Have picked a few to experiment with. I was stunned by the Mangrees while picking. In the north they ran away when they see me. But here they seem to be just curious. New ink appears to be good. Color could have been better. Tomorrow back to the South Jungle. Maybe I can find other varieties.

Unbelievable! Went back to find more leaves. Someone had already picked them. Layers exactly on the spot where I was working. MUST have been the Mangrees. Are they imitating me? Eaten in the watchtower in the morning, tried to observe them. Want to see how they behave when I am not here. But not seen much. Too many trees. Would like to come closer to them. Can build another tower, but it must be different. So much is left of the wreck.

You see a Drawing of the hut you are in now.

So back to nature I find something. How did Saavedra’s people do this? Weaving support branches all day and my arm and chest muscles are very painful now. The Mangrees liked to watch me. 1tje stopped playing and came to give me advice. At least it seemed like that. Just kept yelling at me! I would have liked to have made a sound system, see if I cannot talk to them.

Good Lord. It's not true! NOT TRUE!. Tonight I was drawing in the tower. Tried to get their facial expression right. They played their favorite game. Throw with fruit. The ball rolled under the tower. Suddenly I heard them utter a new cry. Set of high and low tones. When I looked up, they all looked at me. Pointing on the ball and made that sound. As if they said a name. My name. THEY HAVE GOT ME A NAME! What should I do with this now, Father? What should I do now?

After reading this second diary, you could  almost feel a kind of compassion with Achenar. The most important thing Achenar tells you in this diary is the piece on the last page. those Mangree Monkeys all have a NAME. And an Monkey name is made up of a HIGH and a LOW TONE! Well, close the diary by zooming out. Turn left to the large box in front of the bed. Open the chest by pulling the lid all the way up. If the lid is completely raised, you zoom in on the inside of the lid.

On the inside of the lid you'll see a Monkey drawing......... Take picture of it.

You see a small square in two of the boxes of the diagram. Would that represent the NAME of this Monkey? Zoom out twice.

Turn clockwise to look back at the desk. Move forward to the desk and then turn around to the Pole in the middle of the hut. Look up along the pole.

It is a climbing pole and via the pole you climb up to the roof of the hut. So look up the post and then click with your forward finger and you'll end up on the roof.

Probably you look at the sky when you get to the roof, so look down. and turn left to the left corner.

On a shelf is Achenar's telescope and to the left of the telescope is a thin sketchbook. Go forward to the telescope and then click with your finger on the back of the telescope. The telescope turns towards you. Zoom in on the eyepiece of the telescope, so on the back. You look through the telescope. With your left mouse button you can focus the image, so zoom in and out. By moving your mouse back and forth you move the telescope to the left and to the right. Look at your convenience through the telescope to enjoy the environment and if you have enough of it then you zoom out of the telescope with your right mouse button.

To the left of the telescope is therefore a thin sketchbook.

Open the sketchbook by placing your hand on the right side of the cover and then pulling the cover up to the left. There is a sketch of 4 of the animals.

Zoom in on the sketch and ........ Your Amulet will blink again, so click on your Amulet: "Come on, there must be some boy, why are not they going on? Maybe I killed too many females! " Zoom out and turn to the right. Go forward to the left rear corner of the roof and then turn right again. In the right rear corner there is an easel with a painting on it.

Achenar has to kill his time with something, right? Zoom in on this painting. You see the Wooden Bridge with the Bridge Mechanism. Zoom out. Place your hand on the bottom edge of the painting and pull the painting canvas UP. Do this in one quick movement. There is another Monkey drawing under the painting.

Zoom in again and take picture of it. Your Amulet has also started flashing, so click on the Amulet while you are zoomed in this Monkey drawing: "Aghhh .... Why does not the face work? It's something with the eyes". Zoom out. and turn to the right. On the "Table" is a wooden tray containing the ink stuff of Achenar and next to the tray is your 4th Monkey drawing. Zoom in on the drawing and take picture of it.

Zoom out twice. Then zoom in on the wooden tray and click on your Amulet: "If only you could see me, brother, mix ink like the tree people from Channel wood taught us, remember, do you remember ......". Zoom out and go back to the telescope and when you are standing there you turn left and look down. You look at the front wooden grid that is in the roof. You get your forward finger on it. So go ahead. You are on the grid. Turn anticlockwise to the top of the climbing post and then click with your forward finger on the pole and you will end up back down in the hut.

Turn to the left and go forward to the door and then click on the door. You automatically end up outside and on the Wooden Bridge. Turn left and continue 2 times ahead.

You are then at the end of the Wooden Bridge and at the beginning of the Shelf Path that winds through the South Jungle from here.

J: The South Jungle:

Follow the winding Path of shelf's 3 times ahead. You come to the end of this path. STOP! Stand still. You hear a terrible hum. You see Path 1 and Path 2.

Turn slightly to the right and then look slightly down. O ..No .... a Camoudile blocks Path 1.

Because of the Camoudile you can't take path 1 now,  First the Camoudile has to be "removed" here. Fortunately, there is path 2 and that path is actually the extension of the plank Path. Click with your Forward finger on that path and you end up on it. Follow the path to the right and look forward. At the end of the path is the Watchtower which Achenar mentioned in his 2nd diary.

The Tree house:

The "Fruit Throwing Monkey" puzzle

From this tree house Achenar has studied the Mangree Apes. Go forward to the tower, look up the ladder and click with your forward finger and you will end up in the cabin. LOOK WHAT HAPPENS.

From the Tree House you look out over the "Monkey Playground". There are 6 monkeys, but unfortunately for 1 of them the Camoudile enters the playground and grabs 1 of the monkeys. The remaining 5 monkeys flee to the orange tree nests in the 5 trees around the playground. The 5 nests slam shut. The Camoudile stays on the "playground" and  growls  under one of the monkey nests.

After this movie you turn left. You will then see the 5th Monkey drawing.

On this 5th monkey drawing you can see how a monkey throws a round piece of fruit. Does this already give you an idea of what you must do?

Three of the boxes are now marked under the ape. Take a picture of this drawing and zoom out.

Turn left again and look up. A dark drawing hangs at the top in the corner. Zoom in on it and then click on your Amulet again and listen to Achenar who gives you an important indication of the puzzle that you have to solve here: "Come on, come on ... Should I get their tonal range if I want to ever understandable ".

On the drawing you can see a sketch of the "Monkey Playground". Look at it and you will see that there is a pitfall in the middle. The plan is to let the Camoudile fall in pitfall.

Zoom out and turn around so that you are again in front of the "window" and look out over the "Monkey Playground".

SAVE YOUR GAME now because you are about to start one of the most frustrating puzzles in this game. Call this Save Beard Monkey 1 or something. It is going to be very difficult. I will try to explain it first and then I will give you the solution. I'm not sure, but it may be that the monkeys and the Camoudile are in a slightly different position than I describe in the explanation below. However, this does not matter for the SOLUTION.

EXPLANATION:

At the top of the "Window" are the  3 turning wheels with which you had to make the monkey shout in the Pole Hut in the jungle. With these 3 wheels you now have to make the NAMES of the 5 monkeys in the 5 nests. On the 5 Monkey drawings you have  seen a diagram of 6 squares.  From the 2nd diary of Achenar you know that a Name consists of 2 Tones, namely SHORT, LONG.

On 4 of the 5 drawings, 2 of the 6 boxes were always marked with a dot or a stripe. These are the NAMES of the Apes. On the 5th drawing, which hangs here in the hut, you saw 3 boxes marked. The name of the Fruit Throwing Monkey therefore consists of 3 Tones.

There are 5 trees around the "Playground" and in each of those 5 trees there is an orange monkey nest. In each of the 5 nests there is now a monkey. The nests are closed. That filthy Camoudile is now probably at the bottom of nest 4 (number the nests from left to right as 1 to 5) but this can be different in your game. In one of the nests is the BEARDED APE. The nests are interconnected by a system of ropes above the "Playground".

Achenar has dug a trap in the middle of the "Playground" and he has covered up this pitfall. In the pitfall is such a plant with those spheres that, if they break, spread that green anesthetic gas. The intention is that the Camoudile will fall in the pitfall and that one of the monkeys then throws a piece of fruit at that plant. The plant will bursts the and the gas will put the Camoudile to sleep by the green gas. But this will be extremely difficult to achieve.

There is only one monkey that is strong enough to throw the piece of fruit, from within a nest, to that plant when the Camoudile is in the pitfall. And that is the Monkey with the BEARD. This Bearded Monkey must be in the leftmost nest, so in Nest 1. To get the Bearded Monkey in Nest 1, you  have to get the monkey to change nest a few times and that has to be done by CALLING OUT their Names! In other words, the BEARD APE must move to Nest 1.

Every time the monkeys move, the Camoudile will follow a monkey to another nest.

After 4 times, the Camoudile will then fall into the pitfall. This will happen on the right side. BUT ..... The monkeys also climbs out the nests again. You then have to move the Apes 5 more times and then the Bearded Monkey will be in nest 2 and the Camoudile will then be under nest 5.

The next two moves you will have to do very quickly in order to get the Bearded Monkey in nest 1 and the Camoudile in the trap and to have the bearded monkey throw the fruit WHILE THE CAMOUDILE HANGS IN THE PITT!

  • Really, it will be very difficult. You always have to turn 2 of the three wheels because a monkey name consists of a Short and a Long Tone.

  • For a short tone you turn the relevant wheel 1/4 part and for a long tone 3/4 part, do that clockwise.

  • So divide the wheels in 4 segments or think that they are clocks on which you put the 12 hours, 3 hours, 6 hours and 9 hours.

  • It does not matter how the levers of the wheels are. You always have to turn the wheels a QUARTER Turn or THREE-QUARTER Turn from the POSITION of the lever. And this has to be VERY EXACT AND FAST.

  • You can Save the game between the moves, but do this only if you have done the move well and have seen that the monkeys have moved to an other nest. Otherwise your save has no use.

  • If a move succeeds, you see one of the nests open and you see the monkey move from that nest to another nest. The Camoudile will follow that monkey.

  • If you cannot make a move the first time, you see nothing happen. Then repeat the move again from the position of the lever as it is then. Keep repeating the move until the move is successful.

Let's just do it. SAVE YOUR GAME BEFORE YOU START HERE.

A total of 11 moves are required and we start with the 1st series of 4 moves, and unfortunately ... I was not able to make screenshots with every successful move.

The solution:

1st Series:

Move 1: Turn the Left wheel 1/4 and the Right wheel 3/4.

Move 2 : Turn the Right wheel 3/4 and the Centre wheel 1/4.

Move 3: Turn the Left wheel 1/4 and the Right wheel 3/4.

Move 4: Turn the Left wheel 3/4 and the Centre wheel 3/4.

If these first 4 moves are successful, the Camoudile on the right will fall into the trap. However, you cannot let the Bearded Monkey throw the fruit because Bearded monkey is not yet in the right nest. The Camoudile thus climbs out of the trap. You are not finished yet. SAVE GAME now to avoid having to do this whole first step again. The Camoudile however, climbs out immediately.

2nd Series:

Move 5: Turn the Centre wheel 1/4 and the Left wheel 1/4.

Move 6: Turn the Left wheel 1/4 and the Right wheel 3/4.

Move 7: Turn the Right Wheel 3/4 and the Centre Wheel 1/4.

Move 8: Turn the Left wheel 3/4 and the Middle wheel 3/4.

Move 9: Turn the Right Wheel 3/4 and the Centre Wheel 1/4

Save Game again if moves 5 through 9 are Successful. You have to make two more moves now. In my game, after the first 9 moves, the BEARDED MONKEY was in Nest 2 and the Camoudile was placed under Nest 5. With the 10th move you are now going to bring the BEARDED MONKEY to the right Nest (with me this was Nest 1) and let the Camoudile fall into the trap.

Then you must IMMEDIATELY AND VERY QUICKLY MAKE MOVE 11 to finish this puzzle properly. IMMEDIATELY AFTER MOVE 10 you start executing MOVE 11. Do not wait until the Camoudile is in the trap, because then you do not have enough time to perform MOVE 11.

3rd Series:

Move 10: Turn the Left wheel 1/4 and the Right wheel 3/4.

Move 11: Turn the Right wheel 3/4, the Left wheel 1/4 and the Centre wheel 1/4 and .....

If you are very lucky and have done all the moves just right and the wheel has turned exactly 1/4 or 3/4 of a circle then the BEARDED MONKEY will throw the fruit to the plant after Move 11, while the Camoudile is in the pitfall and will be stunned by the green gas. If this happens to you, you are done.

When you have successfully stunned the Camoudile then turn clockwise, to the dark drawing, and look down at your feet.

Click in the ladder hole to descend back down to the ground. Down on the path, turn left and follow the forest path 2 times back to the Plank Path

You are at the beginning / end of the Plank path again. Turn left, so that you can see both forest paths again and .....

the Camoudile is not blocking path 1anymore,  because that Camoudile is now knock out at the "Monkey Playground".

So now go ahead on path 1 and ...... You will be welcomed by one of the Mangree monkeys. The animal chirps at you and then runs away.

It seems like the monkey wants you to follow him. You see the Camoudile lying knockout. You are at the "Playground". Well ... Follow the monkey 1 time ahead. The monkey has waited for you and chatted again for a moment and then runs away again. Follow the monkey once again. You reach a tall Gray tree. A ladder hangs to the right of the tree. Look up and you see that you are now right under one of those monkey nests.

The monkey is already in the nest, so climb up to the nest.

In the Monkey Nest and the Chair:

Take a look around. You will see a pile of shirts on a wicker shelf. You will see the Achenar Compass hanging and you will see two Brown Leaves hanging together and on which you see an image.

You can play with the compass for a moment, if you zoom in on it and then click on it with your finger. This is just for fun.

There is a brown note on the pile of shirts. Zoom in on the shirts and read the note: "Son, wear this with love" you read. Click on the Amulet and listen to Catherine and Achenar. "Gift, Achenar, made by yourself Do not you like it? No ..... No ..... Say yes! Yes! Yes !! IT IS FUN Only ..... It is so soft. ... Almost forgot how softly feels. " Zoom out. Look for those two brown leaves and zoom in on them. On each page you see an image of a rolled up snake.

On the Top Sheet you can see that the Rolled Up Snake has 3 Segments. You see that you have to stroke 4 times over the back segment to wake up the snake. On the bottom leaf you see that you have to give the snake a tick on the head. Take a picture. Zoom out. To the right of these two brown leaves you see a bunch of WHITE LEAVES. That is the WHITE LEAVES PATH and that is your exit out from the nest.

Click with your finger on the White Leaves Path and you are on it. A monkey is in front of you. Go 2 times ahead on the leaf path. You reach the end and stand in front of the Chair of the Cable Car, that will take you back to the Golden Dome. Turn around and see that all those monkeys have followed you.

Turn back to the chair and click on the chair to take place in it. Sitting in the chair you look out over the monkeys on the White Leaves Path.

Look slightly down and to the right. Under your feet you see something that looks like a Gray / White Roll of Cotton. It is the ROLLED UP SNAKE.

Zoom in on the rolled up Snake and click on your Amulet. Take a good look at the video in which you see Achenar performing what you have to do. Look closely and try to remember it

After this movie you are zoomed in on the rolled up snake. The snake is unfortunately rolled up on the handle of the chair.

You have to chase the snake away to be able to pull the handle Well, do what you saw Achenar do and what you also learned through the 2 brown leaves in the nest.

So you have to stroke the snake 4 times and then give it  a tap on his head. You do not get the Gripping Hand or the finger. You have to do it with the "normal" hand. Place your hand on the right side of the bottom black stripe at about 1. Keep your left mouse button pressed while you pull the hand to the left over the black stripe, until about 2, and release your mouse button. Repeat this another 3 times and the Snake will roll out. Slap the Snake on its head and ......

The snake comes at you and it seems that he is going to bite you, but that is not the case. The snake goes away.

When the snake is gone, click with your finger on the bar on which the snake was rolled up.

This turns out to be the lever and ...... Enjoy the funicular ride through the South Jungle. The monkeys come with you. The Chair delivers you into the cave behind the Golden Dome. Through the exit of the cave you see the shipwreck. If you now turn around to the seat and then zoom in on the lever, you can experience the ride again. You can do this as often as you like. If you have enough of it, leave the cave and turn left.

Enter the Golden Dome and go to the table in the back. Look at the table, click with your fingers to slide open the glass panes and zoom in on the TOMAHNA LINKING BOOK.

Open the book and click on the link Photo of the right page and enjoy the video.

Back in Tomahna:

After your adventures in Haven you are back in Tomahna and in the Golden Globe. You saw a shadow in one of the rooms and then ...... you saw fire and saw that something was being thrown to below. That shadow was Achenar and he was in Yeesha's room. Achenar had gone to some place and the linking book he used has fallen and is now lying on the rafters under Yeesha's room. Let's take a look at that.

The Golden Globe must first tilt again, otherwise you cannot get out. Turn to the right and pull the lever to the right again.

The Golden Globe tilts, the two linking books are closed again and the round door opens. Go forward 2 times, out of the Golden Globe. So now we want to go to Yeesha's room. You can do this in two ways. If you use the Zip mode, you will freeze the screen by clicking your right mouse button. Then click on your Zip Compass and then on the only one of the three pictures you can click on.

You will then arrive at the lift platform at the Atrus and Catherine Bedroom. Go to the left of the elevator and operate the rotating handle again to bring the swing bridge to you.

Walk over the swing bridge to the other side, then turn around and operate the rotating handle to return the swing bridge to Yeesha's room

A quick visit to Serenia and back again

Yeesha's Room:

Walk down the swing bridge and enter Yeesha's room again. Achenar has made a mess here. Books are on the floor and also the lamp. What was he looking for? Go to the bookcase and look at the two glass windows under the bookshelves. The left window has been smashed and the thick book behind it has disappeared.

Zoom in on the left window and click on your Amulet. You hear Achenar: "I knew you had one" you hear him say. Achenar has stolen Yeesha's Serenia Linking Book that was here in the bookcase and he has gone to Serenia. Zoom out and zoom in on the right window. You see a drawing of Yeesha's hand and you read "I am a child of the water". Would Yeesha's Guide Spirit be a Water Spirit? Zoom out.

Well, when you arrived in the Golden Globe you saw Achenar, who linked to Serenia via Yeesha's Serenia Linking Book. You saw this book fall down on the platforms under Yeesha's room. You would also like to go to Serenia, so you have to go to that book. Do you remember how it works? You have to click on the 5 books again to lower the bookcase so that you can go down the ladder, in the floor of the secret niche. Do you remember which books that are? And in what order you should click them? Well, I will help you one more time. Click on the following books: 12, 6, 8, 3, 14, and the bookcase drops again.

Click in the round manhole and you are back on the platform under Yeesha's room. Turn left and go forward one time to the swimming gear.

Then turn slightly to the left and you will see the thick Serenia Linking Book lying in front of the easel.

Go to the easel, look down at the book, open the book and click with your hand on the Link photo and enjoy the Movie:

Serenia:

You arrive here in a cave. STOP! STAND STILL. Now is not the time to explore Serenia. You do not know enough to solve all puzzles in this Serenia Age.

We are now only here to link directly back to another PART OF TOMAHNA. Look down at your "feet". On the floor there is a Tomahna Linking Book.

Turn around to the Stone Block where this book should actually lie. Zoom in on the stone block and see why the linking book is now on the ground. Yeesha is grabbed by someone and she throws the book from the block. Zoom out and look down again at the Linking Book and click with your hand on the Link photo. Enjoy the movie again after which you are back in:

Tomahna:

"Myst 3 Exile Revisited":

Turn around. Well, you are indeed back in Tomahna, but not where you are expected to be. You ended up in Catherine's Garden, behind her Garden Room and the Atrus office. For those who have also played Myst 3 Exile, this is a feast of recognition. This is where Myst 3 Exile starts with Catherine, who greets you, sitting on the bench with baby Yeesha on her lap. To the right is the door to the garden room of Catherine and on the left is the bench. Straight ahead you see the closed doors of Atrus's old study where Saavredo has set fire.

Go forward to the bench and look at it. Catherine's head scarf / scarf is on the bench.

Zoom in on Catherine 's headscarf and click on your Amulet. You see Catherine with baby Yeesha.

Zoom out and turn right and go forward to the closed doors. Click on the doors and you go inside and are in the old office of Atrus.

On the left is the large bookstand where in Myst 3 Exile the Releeshan Linking Book was on and then Saavredo stole it. On the wall you see two large round paintings. Go forward to the left round painting and zoom in on it and click on your Amulet. You see the movie that actually starts Myst 3 Exile.

You see Saavredo linking in here, grabbing the Releeshan Book and throwing his fireball.

Zoom out and zoom in on the right round painting and then click on the Amulet again. You hear Catherine and Atrus: "Atrus! You would design this room again! It looks just like the fire." "Not like that, darling, look, the table is different". Zoom out and turn to the right. Go forward 1 time at the table, turn left and go forward once again. You are now behind the table and at the Book Stand in the corner. On this standard lies the Serenia Linking Book of Atrus.

NB: Of course you can now open this book and then link back to Serenia via this book to start exploring a part of Serenia. Again, however, I must tell you that you do not yet know all the information to solve ALL of the puzzles in Serenia right now. It is much better to do Haven and Spire first BEFORE you start Serenia because otherwise you will continue to link back and forth. So my walkthrough now does not continue with Serenia, but immediately with Spire.

Turn anticlockwise towards the desk. In the middle of the desk is a thick red book and next to this book is a feather. Zoom in on the feather and then click on your Amulet again.

You will hear Atrus reading the letter he wrote to you and asking you to come back to Tomahna and start at Myst 4 Revelation:

"For twenty years I have a secret." One speaks about my sons, and the evil they did, I still don’t talk about it. I do not tell you what I did that day, nor the anger I felt when I burnt the two Key books that captured them, some people think my sons were killed, but that is not so ..... You are the only one I can trust, my friend, so come to Tomahna, I have to tell you something ...... about my sons ".

Zoom out and zoom in on the thick Red Book. Click on the Amulet again and open the book. Turn the 1st page and read through this book while Atrus reads it to you too. This is it:

  Serenia Journal:

104.7.14: When I first put my hand on the key panel for Serenia, I thought: "This Age is different from all others I know". And so it was. The air was fresh and clear. Rivers and waterfalls sparkled like diamonds. Even the worn out paths in the rock took my breath away. I met a group of women, they said they were expecting me. We talked late into the night and they knew a lot about me. But the more they explained how that came, the stranger seemed to be their stories. Now I have always thought Catherine's Ages are impossible. So why would this be different?

A story that the Guardians (so they called themselves) told me brings me today. Years ago a child from the village got a fever and died. His parents, who loved him dearly, decided to bury him under a waterfall. They made a balloon to take him there. Their grief, however, was so great that when they landed their balloon they could not carry the child too far. So they put him next to a giant flower and fell asleep. The mother cried all night. Her tears sank into the ground and reached the roots of the flower. Afflicted by the tears, the flower said that the parents had to put their child in her stamper. She would keep his memories so that they could always visit him. Then a tear came back from the roots of the flower. This becomes a keeper for the memories, and the father went into the water to catch him. That was the first time that the Serenians experienced the forces of the Memory Room.

I know now that I have read the Book of Catherine that the plant that the Guardians call the "Memory Room" is the fruiting body of a huge fungus. Like any other fungus, the dead material converts into food: in this case "filled" memory spheres. Because Yeesha recently asked if she could see Serenia, I will tell her this story. What I did with her brothers at that age. But I think my scientific understanding of Serenia pales with the simple story of the Guardians.

104.7.15: I did not quite realize how long it has been since I visited this Age, so when I stepped out of the cave with Yeesha I was happy to see that little had changed. A new group of women replaced the Guardians I knew, but they seemed just as nice as the previous ones. Yeesha immediately became friends with one Anya, and we agreed to spend some time together in the future. I am convinced that a relationship with these women will bear fruit.

104.9.11: Last night we returned to Serenia after a few weeks. Catherine said she went with us, so we'll stay for another week or so. This morning I used Catherine's presence to go out alone. Soon I passed the current Memory Room with the old, discarded flower that had served the village for centuries. The little building around the room looked like it did in my memory, but the flower had rotten even further away. I tried to open the door to look inside but it was closed. Is better too. 30 years ago the Guardians told me how the fragile interior of the Chamber exudes a strong odour during the growth process. The more the plant is against fruiting, the more toxic that gas is, so the Guardians have to find a new plant. Undoubtedly I would not have survived if I had gone inside.

105.3.10: Catherine says I could have seen it coming, this morning Yeesha asked permission to meet the "For-parents" of Serenia. I have explained that what the Guardians call Dream does not exist (how can it be), but she wants to see it for herself. What should I do now? Let her try, will cause no harm, I think. Anya told me that it will take months before Yeesha learns to dream. And I have not had time to occupy myself with the adjustment of the crystal viewer. So everyone benefits if my curious daughter is kept busy.

105.6.10: What flies the time! Attended a ceremony at Serenia today to celebrate that Yeesha has mastered their rituals. I still have my doubts about the Dream Kingdom, but when I see how proud my daughter is when she is handed the necklace of the Guardians, it seems all worth it.

105.7.2: Yeesha said something strange during our writing class today. She found it pathetic that Catherine almost never writes again and asked if we should explain that if someone dies after the visit to an Age that is not the fault of the author of that Age. I immediately realized that she was talking about my grandmother. But Catherine and I never really talked about Anne's death, so how she knew this is a mystery to me. When I asked her about it she said that her necklace had "said something" when she held Anne's picture in her hands. It was a totally unsatisfactory answer, but I have to say that since she got that chain from the Guardians, Yeesha knows in a strange way things she could never have experienced. I would like to study that chain. But at this moment the situation with Sirrus and Achenar is more important. Maybe tomorrow, after the departure of my friend .....

Well, perhaps after reading this book, you understand why I do not want you to go to Serenia first and why my walkthrough lets you do Haven and Spire first. Zoom out to close the book and turn left. Go to the doors and through the doors back out into the garden. Turn to the left and go to the open doors, right in front of the bench. Go forward in the short hallway and you will stand in front of the back door of Catherine's garden room.

This is the narrow door that you could not open in Chapter 1 from the garden room. You can now do that from this side. Click on the rope that holds the door click and then click with your forward finger on the door itself. You end up in the garden room. Turn to the left and advance 2 times along the large round plant containers at the front of the garden room. Before you go out you can turn around to the large round table. On the table is an open book that you can zoom in on. It is a Butterfly Book but you will not receive an Amulet reminder.

To the Spire Age:

Okay, Now we're going back to Atrus and Catherine's bedroom to get back down to the Golden Globe via the Fireplace elevator and then go to the Spire Age through the Spire Linking Book. You can do this again in two ways. Now zip directly to the Lift platform via your Zip compass or follow the route to the left through the First Plant room to the Lift. If you take this route you will notice that the elevator is not there. The elevator is still on the Lift platform for the Bedroom. Pull the lever down. You then turn around and you will see how the lift comes to you from the Lift platform and across the lake. When the elevator is near you, turn around, pull the lever down again and enter the elevator. In the elevator you put the lift handle in the bottom position and the lift takes you back to the lift platform under the Bedroom of Atrus and Catherine.

Exit the elevator, up the stairs, turn left and enter the Bedroom of Atrus and Catherine again. Go to the Fireplace, creep in and ...... your Amulet will flash. Freeze your screen with your right mouse button to click on your Amulet. Click on your Amulet and you will see why Yeesha lost her Amulet in the fireplace in chapter 1. She can only just escape in time to the person who wants to grab her. After this video you zoom out and turn around to the panel. Press the button and, because the correct code is remembered, you drop down with the elevator.

When you come downstairs, you step out of the elevator and you go left, forward, right, up the stairs and pull the lever, which is on your left, towards you to open the Golden Globe again. Enter the Golden Globe again and turn the small lever back to the right, to tilt the Sphere again and to open both Linking Books.

Click with your Hand on the Link photo of the Left Book and ........ Enjoy the movie again on the way to:
