Torin's Passage is a classic point and click adventure game from the game company Sierra from the time that this company was owned by Kenneth and Roberta Williams and has delivered games such as the King's Quest Series, Police Quest Series, Gabriel Knight Series, Shivers, Rama, Larry, Fantasmorgania and more. very much more. So Torin's Passage is a game from the late 1990
But thanks to the site gog.com, we can still get it and play it today. So I picked up Torin's Passage at gog.com for the mere amount of 5 euros and the game plays fine on my Windows 8 and Windows 10 computer, without tweaking and without need to enable compatibility mode.
Of course the graphic quality of Torin's Passage is not what we are used to in 2022, but it is all still very visible and besides that..... fantastic graphics don't make a good game...... If you're looking for a nice game with a good story, difficult puzzles and with a well-functioning mouse control and if you take it for granted that the graphics are not so up-to-date anymore ..... then Torin's Passage is recommended, just like KIng's Quest 5, 6, 7 and 8, Rama, Shivers 1 and Shivers 2....all also games from the ancient Sierra company.
You start the game on the main menu screen where you immediately see that the game consists of various Chapters .....
Each chapter is a World in the game. You can play each chapter separately, but of course that's not really the intention.
Prologue:
We see a large cooking pot ..... the cooking pot is in the bedroom of a castle ........
.... the King and Queen are sleeping in the Royal Bed .....
We hear a baby crying and the Queen wakes up and opens her eyes for a moment ..... then we leave the bedroom and we see the Wicked Wizard ..... This Wicked Wizard also lives in the castle but he has nefarious plans with the Royal couple and their newly born Prince ..... The Scary Wizard fills his signet ring with some poisonous green stuff ......
....then we return to the Royal Bedroom....the Princely Baby is still crying but Mummy leaves it to the Nanny Lycentia to quiet the baby.....
Lycentia comes in and tries to soothe the crying baby but when that doesn't work she takes the baby out of his beautiful crib and takes him outside to the balcony to rock the baby back to sleep. Then the Scary Wizard thinks it's time to carry out his evil plan. The Scary Wizard sneaks into the Royal Bedroom and he puts the poisonous green stuff from his signet ring into the cooking pot and then casts his spells and .....
....... a storm and lightning arises and in the bedroom a green whirlwind arises that surrounds the cradle of the Princely Baby and carries it away ..... The King and Queen are dead ....So that was the Scary Wizard's evil plan... to kidnap the Baby....but the Scary Wizard didn't know that Lycentia took the Baby out of the crib and she sees what happens and runs off with the Baby and ......
........... we end up in the countryside, at the house of Torin and his parents.......
It is a lovely and idyllic countryside landscape and we are at the house of the Hero of this story and his name is Torin....
Torin is a boy of about 18 years old and he still lives with his parents and when we enter his world he is just called by his father.....
Torin thinks his life is boring .... he actually wants to leave here to experience great adventures. But for now, he will have to wait until he has come of age and so he has to do all kinds of boring jobs for his daddy and his mommy. Dad wants Torin to walk to the village to pick up some necessary tools .... although Torin clearly doesn't feel like it, he calls his dog Boogle and head for the village .....
......But when Torin has crossed the river and climbed the first hill, something bad happens.......
.......An explosion happens at Torin's House ..... Evil Magic wraps Torin's parents in transparent stone and Mom and Dad disappear into thin air ......
